I get accused of the same thing. My mom and dad abandoned me when I was 6. I had to grow up fast. I learned quickly to look out for myself, because the system wasn't going to. I don't get emotional when bad things happen because as Chuck said, nothing good comes from it. If I am emotional, I cannot think clearly and make rational decisions. As a kid/teen, it was critical that I had my wits about me. I get exactly what Chuck is saying here.

What I hear is, he knew he was responsible for others and didn't want to burden them when they needed his help. I have mixed emotions about this. "Stiff upper lip" can get you through some harsh times, but it's going to catch up to you one way or another. In his youth Chuck was one of the most openly angry dudes in sports-- he got in fights with fans, on the court, in bars, all kinds of situations. You can't just make pain like that disappear. Today, however, I find Chuck to be one of the most genuinely empathetic people on television. Yeah, he doesn't panic, but he CLEARLY feels for others-- and if reports are true, he helped protect the TNT crew and staff from "Inside the NBA" getting canceled.

I was the leader of my family at age 14 when my mother died. I skipped my teenage years and went straight into adulthood. I have never cried and have been accused of being emotionless: had to find the right woman to appreciate who I am. Stoic men of the past were often alcoholic, abusers, addicts who put on a veneer and dominated the household because economic factors were favorable and women were "meant to stay at home" Don't romanticize blindly ignoring your emotions in order to appear strong. Real strength is knowing your emotions and processing them in a healthy way so you can get back to being your best self, not suppressing them so you trudge rough life as a shell with unhealed trauma that you make someone else deal with for you. Young men are being indoctrinated by toxic people and there's a lack of opportunity and purpose in their lives, this can lead them down rabbit holes where they are taught to not feel their emotions and bitter

The thing with dead is, you can greave now but eventually your number will be up too. And don't think you have time enough because first of all you don't know when your number is up, and second, life blasts past you with the speed of light. So, enjoy the here and now stop worrying about the past or the future. You're on a runaway train; you can't reverse it or stop it so enjoy the ride while it lasts.

He's way off here. He doesn't show emotions but he's still there for his family. That is how emotions should be. No matter how stressful life becomes , you're there for those who depend on you. I have a brother who fathered 6 children with 5 woman and wouldn't know their addresses. That is being unemotional. That is heartless and cold.

Humans' beings get emotional. You have a choice to show it or conceal it. An individual is more likely to suffer a nervous breakdown by hiding their emotions. Therapist and/or psychologists will confirm what I'm sayin...

In fairness, there are levels to being emotional and Barkley definitely moved the goal post by saying “ get emotional every time bad things happen” 1:30. Nah, bruh, it’s possible to grieve and not go crazy.

This advice should be taken by all of the cultures that claim oppression from the past has irrevocably changed them. First Nations in Canada. Native Americans. The Black culture in the US. Bad stuff happened. Move on. And yes, it is as simple as that.

I understand everything that he said, but it's not that easy... I'm sorry, but that's not normal if you don't act emotionally on anything that's happeninf in your life. We are humans, we have emotions, you can't act like robot and not being devastated if someone extremely close to you die, that's not good to feel sorry and sd for rest of your life, but it's definitely nit good to never get emotional on anything, that's psychopatic if you ask me.

@@MeMyself-p5z it's not about being mentally tougher or not. I question his empathy, I question if he really has emphathy for others and understand different situations for maybe he cares only about him and doesn't react emotionally when something bad happens to other, even if those other are closer to him. People who think all about themselve will never be emotional that's true, but thst doesn't mean they are mentally more tougher than some people who feel sorry about some situations.
