FULL DISCLOSURE: I have heard the original Black Sabbath version of this song many many many many times...it's actually one of my favorite Black Sabbath songs. HOWEVER, I have never heard this rendition of it, therefore I will not be reacting to the song itself, I will only be reacting to his interpretation and performance of the song. How's this one gonna go? Only one way to find out...

He put a very real story behind it, and then proceeds to live in that story for this performance. I was very bummed out to learn that he passed away as well not too long after this. Hopefully he is with his mom now though.

Sorry to say, I'm 32 and this is the version I prefer... He took the song and gave it life. I love ozzy but bruh he made this song have meaning... And tbh I heard this before I ever heard the black sabbath version because I grew up with good music like Coheed, The Dear Hunter, Streetlight manifesto, Bayside, Chon, Polyphia ect ect haha hahahaha

Anyone appreciating Charles Bradley's music should probably check out the documentary about him - Soul of America. You can find it on KZbin. You will start to understand why he can sing this way

I like it not more than the original but as much so. I'd like to hear it with a acoustic guitar and piano with this jazzy blues feel just to see how that would sound. I don't know that I would call this a cover, but more a remake because of the major change in style. Nothing wrong in any way with that. I think a cover should be in the style of the original with small changes. So to me this is a remake and a great one at that.

I hope by now you have found out more about Charles Bradley. I think the person saying he didn't think Charles would be a Black Sabbath fan may not have been making a comment on his race - more based on what he knew about Charles - who really did grow up in hard situations - he wasn't literate due to deprivation growing up. He was making his living under the stage name Black Velvet - basically as a James Brown impersonator - sewing his own outfits - before he was discovered by someone with Daptone Records in Brooklyn. There is an excellent documentary about him - Soul of America. You will only appreciate his music more

I’ve seen many versions of this and each one has him using a hard ‘T’ as if he’s saying ‘I’m going to change…’ instead of ‘I’m going through changes’. I’m not sure why this is. At first I thought maybe it was a one time thing because the show a Big Mouth clearly uses a version of his with a soft ‘th’ in ‘through changes’…I just can’t seem to find him doing anything but the hard T live.

The guitar is missing n the Sabbath version. Makes a big difference. I like it better but Sabbath wrote it so they get all the credit. It does sound like Bradley is saying “ Going To Changes” instead of “Through”
