I'll never forget the time I saw Charles Bradley perform live. August 31, 2011. It was a tiny venue in a hangout area on my school's campus, with a stage and setup thrown together in a relative hurry by the student-run radio station who had managed to get him to perform here and that I was a part of, and there was a small assembled crowd of what couldn't have been more than 50 people who were in attendance, but he played as loudly and passionately and soulfully as if he were in a sold-out auditorium of 50,000 and we were all to a one in the palm of his hand from start to finish. While my memories of that night are somewhat scattered and more feelings than actually recallable and definitive, I have one clear memory that sticks in my head. It was when I had somehow managed to find myself front and center, not 5 feet directly in front of the man himself, and with only a microphone and a 3 inch tall stage between us he opened his arms wide and let out a soulful wail that could pierce a heart of the hardest and coldest stone in the next county over. That moment will stick with me forever, as will my appreciation for the man and his music. RIP Mr. Bradley, and thank you for all that you were able to give us

He is an amazing musician, when he sings it’s straight from the heart. This song made me a fan. He sings with such conviction and the music is obviously inspired by 60s/70s artists like Curtis Mayfield and James Brown, it just captures the sound and essence of the music from that time so well. Charles Bradley is living proof that music isn’t dead, there’s still hope.

Charles Bradley, the last soul man. Everything that was simple, beautiful and great about soul music is in Bradley and that band. Love the band. Don’t want to start anything but to me white bands always provide the best backing for soul singers. Mark

I tend to agree, I don't like to say it. but to have a Full Black band might be a little to much soul for one band. too many story's and to many feeling make it sound clouded and confused. And a black singer with a white band also looks cool.

That may be true in this era, but lets not forget the original soul bands who perfected this sound. Bands such as The Barkays, Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, The Ohio Players, Confunkshun, EWF, The Dazz Band, Lakeside and The S.O.S Band. Technology and Hip Hop has taken an entire generation away from a dedicated artform.... Music with actual instruments. Oh it it doesn't get any funkier than "The Roots" Who says that an "All Black Band may be a little too much soul"? Really???
