Cousins are actually pretty easy to work out. Count the grands and greats back to the common ancestor, then add a removal for however many generations difference there is. Your third cousin twice removed is a good example. Twice removed is two generations back or forward, in this case we'll say back, so your grandparents third cousin. Three = two greats and a grand, so they share a great-great-grandparent in common.

Funny story, I woke up from a friends house party in Kentish Town, London, on some sunny morning a couple years ago. Went to the bathroom, washed my face. I looked rough as fuck. Anyway, the window's open cos it's so hot & I'm looking outside into the neighbour's garden (huuuuge) and there's some guy walking around who catches me staring. Looks sort of old. "Morning!"
