Manson was an incredibly complex character. I agree with more of what he says than disagree. Like Ted Kaczynski, you see these incredibly powerful intellectual minds driven over the brink towards violence because they simply can’t be understood. Charles had an awesome opportunity to become a star. Back then, believe it or not, it was much easier to make it, and, even though Roman Polanski and a few others rejected him, he could have still done it. Many of the stars were rejected, but, hung in there and kept going around doing live shows gaining a following. Indeed, Charles had no trouble getting people to follow him. He proved that. Had he used it to his advantage, he could've still made it. So what if the road is a little longer. He was very young. He could've done it. But, he let his own selfish pride destroy him and many others around him too.

The Beach boys put him in touch with Terry Melcher who lived at the same address as Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski, sometime before Sharon and Roman got the house. It did not matter who was living there. Because anybody that could afford that house was a social pig according to Charlie. Sharon and Roman were paying 500.00 per month for that house. Which was a very high rent in 1969. Remember he was on their property and was told to get off the grounds when Sharon was in the pool. Their eyes met. He kept asking for Terry Melcher and was told Melcher did not live there anymore. Apparently Terry Melcher did not think that Charlie had much talent. And wouldn’t see him anymore.. That’s what angered him.

Recorded on September 11, 1967 and August 9, 1968 (overdubs), its distribution began during the Manson murder trial by Phil Kaufman who initially pressed a run of 2,000 copies, of which only 300 sold.It appeared on his album Lie: The Love and Terror Cult which was released in 1970 to help pay for his defense during the murder trial. Later Grogan and some family girls made an album called "The Family Jams". There is footage of them singing in a documentary called "Inside the Manson Gang".

Charlies problem was he would never focus on anything, and just expected it to happen because he felt he deserved to be famous. Entitled little kid in his head, and always stayed that way.
@relicreapers5715 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, Neil Young was there at Denis Wilson's place while Manson was playing. He said he would play and play and once in a while something would sound good. Sounds exactly right.

My grandpa knew him when my grandpa was wrongfully accused of armed robbery to his neighbor who had dementia but he was in San Quentin for 17 months until they found the real guy but my grandpa was cellmates with him and he said he was very tiny and my grandpa is 6’6 and Manson was 5’4 and he said Charles was like a celebrity in there and he remembers when Charles made that song in jail and he said it sounded perfect and clear and no echo in the prison and he said he was pretty weird most of the time like at night he would say some psychotic philosophy stuff but he was best friends with my grandpa and Charlie’s wasn’t that aggressive to people unless you made him and he was mostly nice but my grandpa said he was very talented and he has some of Charles books he wrote for my grandpa and a diary and he said it was amazing when he would sing in the cell

The ending lyrics so true, a sad mad game, innocent people slaughtered for no reason and a beautiful young girl walks to a cell emerging 50 wasted years later as an old woman pleading for parole....

Innocent man, framed by Nixon for political purposes. A major talent, very significant artist. The world lost a great man in 2017. Hopefully one day Charles Manson's reputation will be rehabilitated, and schools will be named after him, ships, highways. Maybe his face will appear on a 20 dollar bill. We could have, one day, a Manson stamp. I love you, Charlie! God bless!

He was obvious framed to make the hippie scene seem like it's getting violent. Also Charlie is very intelligent and was an influence on people and has IQ in the hundreds and authority doesn't like that. I don't think he was an angel, but not a murderer. And he didn't even commit the murders, not to mention its ridiculous to think he brainwashed them into killing the victims.
@LipziG3R8 жыл бұрын
And you know all of that from ....??? Hitler also did not commit murders himself ... he ... just ordered it and it was done. That doesn't make it better ... What should be so ridiculous about "brainwashing" people into doing bad things in their name? This song is beautiful and I don't doubt that he could and maybe is very smart. But still - Saying he was just tricked or something by the "authorities" doesn't sound very convincing ...
@myyummybiologicallyfemalep65777 жыл бұрын
Lipziger why can't people be responsible for their own actions? They said he used LSD to control the Family lol, LSD doesn't work that way and everyone would know that if they didn't buy into the government lie that psychedelics are drugs and dangerous! All the other Family member were younger, whacked out of their minds on meth, driving around killing and robbing! Manson has even said he didn't take those drugs or do any of that but what could he do about their actions he's not a cop! You can find the videos of the statements and interviews here, once individual family members started getting arrested they started spinning wild stories and pointing the finger at everyone! I think Susan Atkins was the one in charge and I think she spun the story of oh Charlie is older he's in charge, I'm not sure Manson really knew exactly what was going on! Manson had been to prison so to him this must have seemed like a wild joke and probably thought he'd be released soon, go and watch interviews, listen to what Charles Manson ACTUALLY SAYS!
@Barry77777777 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say, Bill. I'm not sure how impressionable I would be on LSD, but I do remember losing a lot of control over the way I acted and handled some situation that would have otherwise been easy and routine. I especially remember being totally useless as a bandleader one night, though I could still play. These people had totally given themselves to Charlie and worshipped his every word - I think I can see how the addition of LSD to the mix could further strip them of whatever remained of their individuality. Interesting point for discussion, for sure.

Yeah well the thing is, making claims isn't the same thing as proving them true. You made a claim and now you owe evidence to back it up. So put up or shut up.

@dropd26 Great song. I know the Beach Boys connection was via Dennis Wilson, but do you know who's idea it was in the BB's to take a Manson song and alter it? I'm guessing they didn't want anyone to know where the song came from? Instinctively, I suspect Mike Love of anything bad, ever, lolol.
