My grandfather took me up to Boston to meet Charles Munch. I always watched him on television. I play the piano and I conducted my high school orchestra. This piece by Beethoven was the first time I took the Baton. I can still feel his energy as he conducts this magnificent piece of Beethoven's Symphony No. 3.

Davvero bella questa esecuzione dell' eroica. Una delle piu' belle che io abbia mai ascoltato. Chiara, incisiva, vivace, partecipata. Una vera scoperta questo Munch

Worked with Munch in 1967 on the Minnesota Orchestra staff. Superb conductor and better person. The BSO is as good as it gets.

There must be good reason why Karajan held this Man in the highest esteem. A great conductor indeed.
Espetacular!!! Sem sombra de dúvidas uma das mais convictas Interpretações de todos os tempos. Absolutamente fantástica!!! BRAVO!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏

I think we should form an orchestra using the minority of us who understand how special these old gems are. Why are we not worshiping this great man and his disciples on this stage???

Somehow a little bit difference from his often exaggerated gestures. I think he took a good control of it in this great performance.

Until now basically I never understood why Munch was considered one of most iconic probably the best of all French conductors ever. Sadly I lost an enormous time ignoring him!
@alfredkornfeld72842 жыл бұрын
He indeed was wonderful in French music, but not really “French.” He was born in Alsace-Lorraine, served as a sergeant in the German army during WW l and wounded fighting the French, and was the concert master of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Furtwangler and Bruno Walter. He loved Bach and was a great conductor of Beethoven and Wagner. National identity aside, he was a magnificent artist.

I grew up with the BSO and had great respect for Erich Leinsdorf, but I think one of the reasons the BSO preferred Munch was simply because Munch got them more excited about music, or a blue teacher said to me, in the finale of Symphony Fantastique , their finger tips and lips caught fire
@MuzBuz4 жыл бұрын
Bernstein got some inspiration from him.

Another reason is that Leonsdorf was very condescending toward them much of the time and was a very pretentious person. It just wore on them.
13:17 and a little more ... not mystical, only good conducting

Charles Munch non era certo Toscanini. Il suo gesto era spesso confusionario, e di poco aiuto agli orchestrali. Si faceva troppo prendere dalla musica che dirigeva; un po’ come certi eccessi di Bernstein.
@jamescrawford988310 ай бұрын
