@@GODHATESADOPTION INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY AND ITS FUTURE Introduction 1. The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries. 2. The industrial-technological system may survive or it may break down. If it survives, it MAY eventually achieve a low level of physical and psychological suffering, but only after passing through a long and very painful period of adjustment and only at the cost of permanently reducing human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine. Furthermore, if the system survives, the consequences will be inevitable: There is no way of reforming or modifying the system so as to prevent it from depriving people of dignity and autonomy. 3. If the system breaks down the consequences will still be very painful. But the bigger the system grows the more disastrous the results of its breakdown will be, so if it is to break down it had best break down sooner rather than later. 4. We therefore advocate a revolution against the industrial system. This revolution may or may not make use of violence; it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades. We can’t predict any of that. But we do outline in a very general way the measures that those who hate the industrial system should take in order to prepare the way for a revolution against that form of society. This is not to be a POLITICAL revolution. Its object will be to overthrow not governments but the economic and technological basis of the present society. 5. In this article we give attention to only some of the negative developments that have grown out of the industrial-technological system. Other such developments we mention only briefly or ignore altogether. This does not mean that we regard these other developments as unimportant. For practical reasons we have to confine our discussion to areas that have received insufficient public attention or in which we have something new to say. For example, since there are well-developed environmental and wilderness movements, we have written very little about environmental degradation or the destruction of wild nature, even though we consider these to be highly important.

You know, I don't know how many people tell you this, but your muting is godlike. I pay attention to the string vibration (and these strings really show it) and I don't think I see a note lasting past its intended duration, no dissonance created by another wayward string when you hit the big open E's, just perfection. The rest of it is really great, but there's a reason that the notes you don't play in bass are just as important as the ones you do. Incredible control.

@@THSonGoogle thank you for adding smart to that practice, I have come across many people who do not practice efficiently, I mean there is no one way to practice, but it has to be goal oriented, and focused. You can't just go at it random style, there is so much to know, so many techniques and the styles, that you can teach yourself bad habits, and in the long run actually limit yourself. In my personal experience, if you are having fun practicing, you are either a masochist or doing it wrong. If you love playing an instrument, all the pain, both physical and mental from practicing hours and hours at a time, sometimes with what seems like no progress at all feels that much better when you finally break through and hit that lick you been trying, or pull off that flawless solo. Playing bass has been simultaneously the most satisfying and frustrating thing I have ever done, and I will never stop, been at it for 20 years now and I still practice multiple hours a day, will never stop learning and trying to improve

Charles, you get plenty of compliments on your bass playing, and deservedly so, ( I truly believe you're THE best bass player in the world right now) but this video reminded me that you deserve some major credit for your compositional skills as well. You're damn good at composing fabulous musical arcs, especially considering the short duration. Not to mention your uncanny ability to fully embrace so many styles. Side note, I shudder to think of what somebody like Frank Zappa could have done musically had he had somebody like you at his disposal. He wrote parts that were as sophisticated as possible for the musicians he hired. You would have opened an entirely new world of possibilities. If you're familiar with Zappa's work, you'll know that's the highest praise. He didn't hire one-trick-ponies just for their chops. He hired people that would open as many musical doors as possible. You'd have fit that so well.

Not sure what bass players you think are better than him, but I'd love to see that list. Wooten has been the top dog for decades now. Nobody has really topped him as far as being a fully rounded musical prodigy goes. But Charles has. He plays with the finest degree of accuracy I've ever seen, while pushing techniques such as his right hand tapping runs and double pluck/flamenco far beyond what anyone else ever has. He's well versed in different types of music and can genuinely perform them all competently. His compositional skills are excellent. He has impeccable feel, etc. Idk if you think some dude shredding pentatonic scales with a pick is great or what, but you dismissing Charles' place among the top says more about you than you think it does about me or Charles. It's quite laughable, frankly.

@@franman781 it's the relaxation paradox: being able to do something without much effort reduces the tension, and that relaxed state allows you to perform significantly better. Making it look easy makes it actually easy. It's just incredibly difficult to get to that point, where ability and confidence balance out for minimal tension

Huge talent indeed, but let's put things into perspective: The audio we HEAR in the video was probably pre-recorded in a DAW, with several takes and punch-ins / punch-outs, then tweaked and mixed. THEN comes the filming of the video over that polished pre-recorded audio track. The performance we SEE in the video is most likely NOT the performance we HEAR in the audio of the said video (as it was most likely pre-recorded and tweaked in a DAW). As long as the video images matches the polished pre-recorded audio performance, then we have the impression that IT'S ALL PLAYED LIVE in one take in front of the camera, which is, again, PROBABLY NOT THE CASE! In the end, huge talent indeed, but don't get discouraged if you are a musician / bass player that can't play straight through in 1 take what you SEE in this video! Also remember, to each his own level of talent and artistic identity. We all have something unique to bring to the world. This guy here seems to bring nice video performances of his pre-recorded breath-taking compositions. A bit of video smoke and mirrors to make you lose your breath even more!

@@biconditionals I've rarely noticed a difference in their abilities or the effort with which they execute them. Davie's huge hands definitely lend him an edge on a lot of the stuff that he plays though. Charles arrangements have just become more thought out and his intonation is much better than it used to be as well. I definitely can't say that I've ever noticed Davie pushing peak or near peak effort to play though, he looks about as relaxed as one can be most of the time he plays. But all that aside, I still think Charles has surpassed him.

@@clintonsavage4018 Davie is WAAAAAAAY behind Charles in technique AND talent, not to mention that I don't think Davie could compose at a tenth of this level. @@itsjustme8947 I'm not sure I fully agree with all of that, but I do agree that I don't think Davie can compose anywhere near as well as Charles.
