Charles I think people like you and I enjoy these cars so definitively for spiritual reasons. These cars represent a time when people had love and integrity. Only 70 years ago people cared about what they stood for. I need it to be 1959 again just like you my friend. Please keep the commandments and get close to CJ, the King of Kings so we can work and play in the glory of his kingdom instead of meeting the sun. Keep Saturday holy and may courage and truth be with you my beloved brother!

1958 my birth year, a shocking amount of dated over embellished designs were produced…..Oldsmobile, Buick, Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln, Dodge, Plymouth, and , of course Packard. Yet I grew up loving all of them. They were all so over the top in their presentation and the interiors of the high end models were stunning examples of post war design, material, and detail. This Edsel 2 door hard top does it all! Great video presentation!

Considered ugly in its day this car appeals to the modern eye. Shows how sick we are of SUV design. 2020 the year that, by contrast, made the Edsel look great!

Stunning Edsel Citation! I owned a 58 Edsel Ranger for several years and it was a blast to drive, even though it had the column shift automatic instead of the Teletouch. The column shift was a short lived option when the 58 Edsel was first introduced but was rarely selected as most wanted the unique Teletouch. This beautiful Citation would be a dream to own and drive, thanks for sharing the very detailed video, brought back some great memories!

My dad bought a 1958 Edsel Pacer hardtop, white paint with red interior. I loved that car-it was tight and responsive. Yes, I know that it was not top-of-the-line, but it was a truly great automobile. Sadly, the car was rear-ended while parked, frame was bent, and the car was not the same after that.

How much do we LOVE this car!! Its to die for!! As Charles shows every last detail and appointment of this 50's dreamboat, you can clearly see how much effort Ford put into this car. When the car was introduced in the fall of 57, people did not know what to make of it because it was so different- like no other Ford on the road. The Ford executives told Roy Brown to design a car that looked like nothing else on the road. Well? He came up with this beauty. As history has it, in the end it just did not work out. Everything that could have gone wrong with this car-did. But we can look back now at the Edsels that are still around and see how reallt cool they were, even with all the misfortune. I will have one someday to drive on the weekends and take to car shows. Will it still turn heads? You bet it will!!

This one is beyond rare. The big MEL engine that was shared with the Lincoln and Mercury (and 59-60 TBird option) would have made this a running car especially above 50 mph. Just now watching Charles' videos for the first time. You can tell he was super excited about this one! Thanks!

Thank you for posting this exceptional video showcasing the best of the best! Impressive array of whistles and bells not usually found on top-of-the-line Edsels (presumably since customers had already spent so much just to have a Citation). Less than 1% of all 58's had AC. I've only seen the speed warning light activated in a '58 commercial, and that was in B&W. I've owned a beautiful Citation for the past 15 years, and it's been a joy to drive. It was previously part of Richard Carpenter's collection.

The '58 Edsel was so ahead of its time in styling. In an age of tail fins for days, the Edsel had such a sleek, long and straighter profile. It was designed more like the cars of 1960, which truely made it the styling of the future! Those tail lights are large but their styling made them look like a sleek and slim, beautiful inset on the back of the car. You either loved or hated this car. For me it was one of the most beautiful cars of the '50s!

Well, the way I understand it is that the horse collar grill was a little controversial. Comedians and others made fun of it and that may be one reason why some people stayed away. It was also introduced during a bad recession and the reason for it being didn’t exist anymore come 1958. When it was conceived in ‘54-‘55 there was a spot in the pricing structure for it. But when it was debuted that really didn’t exist much anymore. People could either get a high dollar Edsel (or a more well known prestigious Mercury) or a low dollar Edsel (could get a high dollar Ford). Also build quality suffered because these were made on the same line as Fords and Mercury’s and I’ve read that some of the workers didn’t appreciate that and weren’t always careful with assembling the Edsels.

One of my interests of 50's and 60's cars is the configuration of the A/C vents, when so equipped. Definitely have not seen the Edsel factory air before! This was when manufacturers were figuring out what they were doing to do with the air vents, as cars had recently switched from A/C units based in the trunk. (AMC was a leader in dash-based A/C units!) I can't think of any other Ford products with this configuration. It is like the 57-58 Caddy and some of the Chrysler products of the time. Thanks for that detail.

The interesting thing about the 1958 Edsel lineup is that the "senior" models (Corsair and Citation) weren't just longer than the junior models (Ranger, Pacer), due to the usual expedient of a longer wheelbase, but also wider, by just over an inch. The senior models were built on the larger Mercury chassis, while Ranger and Pacer used the smaller Ford underpinnings. Despite being virtually indistinguishable except for trim and rooflines, the senior and junior models used entirely different body stampings, with no panels or glass interchangeable. Edsel station wagons for 1958 used a Ranger/Pacer front clip, with the tail being a thinly disguised 1957 Ford. The "Climate Dial" HVAC control is the same setup used in 1958-60 Lincolns, with ductwork integrated into the dash. Then for 1959 and 1960, Edsel reverted to the clunky under-dash factory air units used by lesser Fords. As well as a very agricultural-looking exposed shift linkage that ran parallel to the steering column.

Absolutely right about the driving experience. Some are maybe just interesting, but ones with power steering and brakes are similar to driving a car today except from a different universe. Speaking of brakes.... The upper two lines of '58 Edsels share a lot with Mercurys. Same roof and awesome rear window but different trim. Don't care what anybody says they are a beautiful car I don't know why they got such a bad rap they're definitely unique looking especially for today's cruisers they look so custom from the factory you think somebody did it in their garage these youngsters nowadays wouldn't even know what kind of car that was they think it was some space age car you know how hard it was to build that car from the clay model I'm just saying pure genius

I wonder how many of those options were originally on the car or were added during the high dollar restoration? In place of the tachometer, one could even have ordered a compass.

I am always suspicious of super-optioned Edsels. I mean, Corsairs and Citations tended to come well-equipped, but not THAT well. It's even shiftier with the small-series cars. Last year I saw a green Pacer at a local show in PA that had *everything* incld. the Speed Warning Light, electric trunk release, and the ultra-rare central oiling system IIRC, and I always suspected that was a "built" car. The wealthy owner had just tacked about six rare options onto it in the course of a full resto. Cars like that are just material for a pissing contest between the owner and other Edselers, making the car non-representative of how the cars were actually born. "Build sheet or it didn't happen!"
