CUBAN BOXING TUTORIAL: HOW TO EXIT FROM COMBINATIONS!!!

Ok guys, I am performing this tutorial with Cuban National Champion Carlos Martinez in the famous Rafael Trejo gym in Havana, Cuba.

Cuban boxing is pure art in movement. If someone wants to learn Muay Thai he has to go to Thailand, if someone wants to learn boxing he must go to Cuba at least once.

that's not true, it's a style, not the entire sport's existence. The cuban style is great for olympic and point boxing but it falls rather short in professional matches where it comes down to a KO very often. Nonetheless cuban culture and histzory have produced great boxers dominating amateur over decades and bringing out some stars in pro boxing too.

@@johndalton4559 nobody said it's the entire sport, it's the sport's peak. The argument amateur/professional is hard to make since Cuban boxers were not allowed to go professional and just a small percentage of defectors made the transition. Imagine athletes like Teofilo Stevenson in the pros. Also most of them were successful by the way, if you make the percentage of successful Cubans turned pros against the US or any other countries the others are put to shame. And remember Cuba only has a population of 11 million people, if we look at medals and world titles per capita no country can come close.

​@@nessuno7040 I never doubted them being succesful, but to my knowledge there is no cuban that ever consistently dominated his division in the pros. And yes they can't leave and yet many professional athletes do just that (with heavy heart ofcourse because the family cant follow...) I just think it falls short vs the mexican style when it comes down to the dynamics of non olympic boxing. And yes the medals, you know they used to get bred in cuba to have the ideal bodytype in order uphold their status in the olympics, just aninteresting side bit. Im gusano and amateur myself btw, So I'd love to be convinced that the cuban style is peak boxing!! But I think boxing has evolved alot from that. Even if you put apart the cuban boxers from the cuban/soviet style. That style is rearely seen on pro level.

That is so they can keep their distance and not approach their opponent wildly as they move forward with the jab... boxers are so clumsy 🤣

You can drill basic things at home but you will probably fair better in a gym environment... its not always the case but it is more common.

When you exit from these combinations you have the weight on the front foot, im wondering how i should exit if my weight in on my back leg? Say i end with a hook, should i just take an extra step and pivot?

if it is a check hook you won't need that extra step. If its a standard hook then you can step and slip to perform the exit.

I love this, it opens discussions on new possibilities ie: entries, exits, contralateral/Ipsilateral movement & countering. I like this video particularly because it highlights something I've seen southpaws do;😢 slip & pivoting the orthodox back hand. As in the video, the orthodox boxer can simultaneously throw the back hand whilst stepping to the side & pivoting on the lead foot. Thus countering the southpaws slip & pivot to the outside of the orthodox back hand. 👊🏽

What I noticed is that Carlos always takes a step either to the side or back after throwing his combinations.That would leave him always out of the reach of his opponent.

He is tall in his class, so I believe he has been conditioned to exit after throwing.
