These were the days when it was “fun” to watch trains- so much variety!

I love all these old films. The old Seaboard Air Line and descendant SCL are my favorite roads.

i'm glad somebody took the time to film all these scenes. brings back good memories from my youth back in the 60's riding the rails.

Wow! What luck seeing something I thought I would never see ever on film AND in color: the little SAL local passenger train at Charleston, SC that was nicknamed THE BOLL WEEVIL. This all stops local ran between Hamlet, NC and Savannah, GA, with a side trip to Georgetown, SC at Andrews, SC and ran until 1957. My dad lived outside Hemingway, SC and used to tell stories how this little train was the only way to get to either Charleston or points north due to the bad roads back in the 30's and 40's. Too bad there isn't any sound, but glad to see this rare gem. Oh, that's the old SY interlocking tower that controlled train movements over the double main track of the Atlantic Coast Line between Savannah, GA and Florence, SC. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

The mergers to form CSX along with the formation of the Burlington northern has changed Railroading in North America and has driven mergers to this very day.

I love videos like this, even though I'm not a fan of these as such, well....I've got a huge soft spot for N&W, one of the first U.S railroad companies that I fell in love with growing up in Sweden during the 70's and 80's, the first one being the Delaware & Hudson, thanks to the CTC BOARD magazine, which reminds me, I need to find that issue again! As it is now, the companies closest to my heart is the Milwaukee Road, Delaware & Hudson, Norfolk & Western, Western Maryland, New Haven, Lehigh Valley, Gulf Mobile & Ohio and Reading, with Milwaukee Road being the BIG obsession with nearly 100 books and the complete 1969 of their company magazine, a manual for their FT diesel, a railroad from before they became the Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul & Pacific.... I must admit that I do like the Louisville & Nashville.... These days, railroading is boring (the big companies) and the locomotives are (put your choice of sentence enhancer here) ugly! Keep 'em videos coming, they're excellent to say the least! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻😎

It's interesting to learn about the many merger proposals that were drafted over the years. It's also nice to once again look at bygone railroads and their paint schemes.

SAL had a sharp paint scheme. Too bad it didn't carry over to SCL. Regardless, SCL and its components are still an old favorite of mine. U-boats with Geep trucks have always made me smile.

Thanks alot for sharing this. IMO, the specialness of being a rail fan was greatly diminished after the SCL, L&N evolved into CSX

9:25 The dome car seen in this train was a leased Northern Pacific dome. NP didn't need as many cars in the winter, and IC needed more for the Florida winter travel trade. IC insisted all its cars be in orange and brown, so they repainted these--just for the season.

Late 70s L&N is such a vibe, wish it was more easier to model ngl.
