Hi Charles, When the fixtures came out... I remember thinking it was going to be really difficult to get more than 10 points from our first 5 games. Add Merino's injury... add getting drawn away at Atalanta on the THURSDAY before going to the Etihad... add Rice's suspension at Spurs... add Odegaard's injury... add having our pants pulled down by Howard Webb's clowns show x2... add playing with 10 men at City for the entire 2nd half... We have 11 points and we have taken points off City. Given the context, that is an absolutely remarkable return. I just watched us play away at the Etihad with 10 men for the entire 2nd half... and I am fuming that we haven't won... if that doesn't tell you something about this team nothing will.

The most baffling/frustrating/unbelievable thing is how the PGMOL twitter said Trossard was sent off for delaying the restart, meanwhile all the broadcasters said it was for his shove. How have we got to a point where a player is getting sent off in arguably the joint-biggest match of the Premier League, yet nobody even knows WHY he's been sent off. Something so insignificant that we are all left guessing what has a player actually even done to warrant leaving the pitch... I'm genuinely lost for words at this point. Howard Webb, hang your head in shame at what you have done to the Premier League.

Why is no one talking about this: Were being told Trossard was sent off for kicking the ball away, but here in America the NBC broadcast team says (just right after coming back from halftime) they can hear what VAR talk to the ref about and they said it was for I believe they said aggressive challenge. They said they overhear VAR talking to the ref about that. Now they back track and say its for kicking the ball away? The whistle blew within seconds of Trossard kicking the ball away. Doku kicked the ball away after an Arsenal player placed it on the ground to play. I don't care if it wasn't in the spot of the foul, its the ref's job to say where to take the kick from not Doku.

The two notes of optimism for me 1. We are playing much better than at the start of last season, have 3 huge away games over (having won 2 & drew 1) & you can see us going on a real unbeaten run over the next while 2. I remember another draw 20 odd years back, early in the season, in Manchester, against the then champions, when we were down to 10 men ... and that campaign ended pretty well 🏆

One aspect not mentioned is Oliver's time keeping that caused us our problems. There were 6 extra minutes of the first half added. He turned it into 8 minutes + in which Partey got booked and Trossard sent off. I reran this on my TV earlier and nothing happened other than us scoring but he added 2 and a half more minutes. At the end he added 3 more minutes onto 7. I'm not into conspiracy theories but.........

It's such a strange one to sum up - I would have snatched a point out of a babies hands before the game, but given the circumstances it feels like robbery. Typically great performance from Saliba and Gabriel minus Haaland getting through for his goal early doors. Calafiori played brilliantly for the most part and topped it off with a screamer. It's the best I've seen Partey play all season, I thought his timing and decision making to approach and challenge or sit back and defend the space was impeccable in pretty relentless circumstances. Happy for Martinelli finally getting some attacking joy too, much deserved considering how much he put into the game. Well done to all the guys coming off the bench and chipping in as well, Gabby J did well defensively. Gutting how we lost the 3 points but grateful for what was an amazing defensive performance.
@JohnScarrott3 сағат бұрын
Positives about the game. We are extremely hard to score against even with 10 men (for the second time this season) and facing the current best team in the World. We scored 2 against City and this will help other managers when they analyse how we did it so they can try and use the same tactics against City. Rodri looks like he'll be out for a while, 6-8 weeks I think, so that levels it up with us having Odegaard out. City will be impacted by the loss of Rodri for sure, they certainly looked like they missed him as soon as he went off. He won't be match fit when the injury has healed either, so City might find matches like Newcastle away, Brighton away and Spuds at home tougher to win. And they have De Bruyne out too. If we concentrate on winning our matches we could find ourselves back at the top of the table again fairly soon.

Shame they couldn’t hold out but to come through this week unbeaten is a monumental effort.

@BenStewart963 сағат бұрын
On the yellow: Do we really want games being called like this? Last season, an arguable red card offence which endangered a player didn’t even get a yellow because Oliver didn’t want to ruin the occasion. It was probably 50/50 on whether Trossard was timewasting or clearing the ball away, happy to say 60/40. I want refs to manage those second yellow cards for kicking the ball away way better than just being trigger happy, especially when they sometimes give it and sometimes dont. Give them a warning, tell them anything else and it’s a red and move on I’m not expecting consistency across multiple games each weekend, but I expect a level of consistency or common sense in each game as it goes
@fredrickmutambisi77573 сағат бұрын
In as much as Califiori, you can't give him the same mark as the other 3. Despite getting a goal, he was sloppy and giving too much room to Sarvinho, 7 for me. Trossard played well and was stupid but 5 will be fair.
@chrispeterson662 сағат бұрын
@@BenStewart96 Agreed. Of all of the rule changes and improvements they might have considered over the summer, choosing “kicking the ball away” as a priority is absolutely baffling. Referees already had the ability to give a yellow for it if they needed to just like any other instance of egregious time wasting.

There were a lot of things I didn’t notice in the game that other wise would’ve made me lose my actual mind, because I was just so locked in on them defending. The thing that stood out the most to me that I ignored was the added time, and I saw it on an Opta account that the second half the ball was in play for the most time this season and they managed to find 7 minutes of extra time, even ignoring the timber injury which would’ve extend past when we conceded anyway. There was just so much wrong with this match I could go on for ages. At the end of the day we conceded first with some very sloppy marking, which is ironic because those boys defended their hearts out. In the grand scheme of this past week, playing away 3 times, less off days, etc, I’ve got nothing to complain about. I love this team.

Premier league needs to ask themselves, is this the product they want going forward? Cause after great first half between competitive teams going for title the 2nd half was not entertaining because of giving silly yellow cards. This new rule about yellow cards for kicking the ball away is not consistently enforced as each ref has different interpretation what that is seems like - exactly same situation where Szaboszlai for Liverpool hoofed the ball away on a yellow and 2nd wasn't given. Why not just give extra minutes of added time for it why it needs to be a yellow when that can heavily impact the quality of the game?

Just watched the replay of the match as I couldn't catch it live. IMO the call on Trossard is total BS. I've heard some criticism on him in that he should have been more aware of the situation. But in my eyes he did not kick the ball way in any manner to delay the restart. He thought the play was still ongoing and made play on the ball to clear it out of danger to the side. That said, I love the toughness and grit of this team. Pretty glad these first 5 fixtures are over and the 3 games this past week. Two points off the top. Onward.

"Beat me if you can, survive if I let you" is the perfect encapsulation of that game except it was pure dumb luck that let City survive. Yes they had no KDB and yes Rodri went off early but we had no Ødegaard, Saka had to get hooked at half time, Trossard put the ref in a "tough position" plus let's not forget the absence of the likes of Merino and Tomiyasu as well. City will be the happiest of the two teams with that result and I'm sure that Arteta will be telling the boys to hold this result and use it as fuel for the fire that's going to blaze a trail through our season. Pundits, opposition fan pages etc will be trying to paint a narrative that we didn't show up to the game but we all know the truth. There's not a single player that let the team down and the fact that even when up against a 10 man team, City needed the luck of the ball ricocheting in the direction of Kovacic and Stones just to draw level tells you all you need to know about this team. Arteta has transformed this team something fierce and all of Europe needs to be on notice because sooner or later, we are coming for it all.

What a game! Full of excitement and on-field drama-just what you'd expect from two EPL giants. I believe Arsenal played exceptionally well against Manchester City, who are currently the best team in the league and arguably the best team in the world. Despite being down to 10 men for the entire second half, Arsenal led with two goals until John Stones equalised in the 98th minute of extra time. All things considered, it's a good outcome for both Arsenal and Manchester City. What a goalkeeper Raya is! He’s simply outstanding, and now I see why Mikel Arteta brought him on board. Raya's performance has fully justified why Arteta sought him over Ramsdale. The defence is also incredibly strong; Arsenal’s defensive system has become so solid. And what a goal by Calafiori! Unfortunately, the game’s spoiler was Trossard’s red card. While it's easy to blame the referees, the red card was deserved, and you can’t kick the ball away after the referee’s whistle. It’s a clear foul, and part of the rules of the game. I think Arteta needs to focus on discipline within the squad; two red cards in two games, two weeks apart, isn’t professional. Arsenal players need to stay calm and think through their actions on the field. Now we look ahead to the next challenge against Leicester City. Good luck to Arsenal, as always. Gunners for life!

Should be pissed off at the corrupt ref. 34th minute, doku kicks the ball away well after the whistle. This is the same ref that didn't give kovacic a second yellow for elbowing odegaard in the head last year because and i quote "it was an important game and i didn't want to disrupt the flow by sending someone off

Thanks for your match reaction. Do you feel like all other referees are now trying to make an example of Arsenal because of the outcry over Rice's red card? More like a case of "backing their mate (Chris Kavanagh) against us going forward?

Over the moon! we have the character and the balls to win the league. The off the ball clatter was enough to get a yellow, so no complaints.All in all a top result. I would give them all 11 out of 10. Glad to see Miles get a run out. He was bullied a bit, needs to hit the weights, but is certainly a player.

Hi Charles, what did you think of Timber at RB on Sunday? I know we only saw him play there in a normal role for the first half before we were down to 10 men but curious to hear about what you think he brings there that might be similar or different from Ben White.

Charles, please comment on how Szoboszlai wasn’t given a yellow card for kicking the ball after the whistle was gone and then it’s okay to give one to Trossard. Baffled.

Don't forget Jesus. Thought he had a good defensive cameo

3 hard away games. No captain. 45mins+ with 10 men at City. Undefeated. This will do the world of good for the self belief mentality. We're doing this when weak! UP THEE ARSENAL!!!

Hey charles, I'm so gutted today and very sad because the draw feels like a loss. I know you do not believe in conspiracy theories, and neither do I, but when things look like a pattern, one has to ask certain questions; 1) It was Michael Oliver that gave Martinelli two yellows in the same passage of play. 2) It was him who didn't send Kovacic off for the bad tackles last year, following which Webb said maybe MO didn't want to ruin the game. 3) Only arsenal players have been sent off for "delaying restart" this season when literally every team does it. Where does it end?? On a lighter note, Arsenal men and women's team both played 2-2 draws with City. COYG - Femi

I’ll so so proud of the boys. I genuinely genuinely feel the refs association need to be investigated. There’s something fishy about the bias towards city and how everything that stands against them needs to be shut down. How did Silva and Doku escape the yellow but Trossard didn’t today? How did Pedro escape the yellow but Declan didn’t? We may just be the victims because we’re closest to toppling them. The boys were unbelievable. We almost pulled off the unthinkable. Mikel needs to pat each one of them on their back and he needs a pat himself. Man if we had a good cover for Odegaard and Saka, we would’ve been unstoppable (barring the 20th team that joins our opponents in black every week). We keep at it, game after game, and let’s see what we achieve at the end of the season.

No wonder Klopp left this league, pundits, reporters and officials all suck the fun out of game. The game feels much less "magical" for my lack of a better adjective. I also can't believe people are giving Arteta flack for going defensive in the second half. Everyones great coaches but cant seem to get themselves a job and prove it.

BS decision by the ref! Why are we the only team whose players get booked for kicking the ball away?! Incredible defensive display to stifle City for 52 minutes! Absolutely gutting to concede in the last minute though!

Proud of the boys today, not a great game but so much grit away from home. If you'd have told me last week that we would have 3 away games to our arch rivals, one of the champions of Europe and then Manchester city of all teams and to come out with a win, 2 clean sheets and to pick up four points in the league... I'd have been very happy. I won't even get into refereeing because this will turn into an essay! We move on, still only 2 points behind COYG!

The second half had the grim reality of guarding against terrorism. We have to get lucky all the time. They only have to get lucky once.

We have to stop making excuses for our players. He put his boot trough the ball after the whistle. But I could not be more proud of the team after that second half!

So proud but so angry at the standard of officiating, how long do we have to put up with this?
