I work at a Whataburger in Arizona and Charley comes in quite oftenly and I always sing him this song when he walks in he smiles so big and he says " Thank you Hunter", hes honestly the funniest man you will ever meet and he always gets a small vanilla shake when he comes in nothing else. I always look in the front when I am working hoping to see him once again and I get so excited everytime he walks in, I am sadly the only one who knows who Mr. Pride is and even most customers dont recognize the legendary singer among them. Long live Charley Pride!!!

R.I.P. Charley Pride. As a kid growing up in Sunny Southern California in the 60’s & 70’s, nearly all of my friends, cousins and siblings were listening to Rock music, i.e. Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones and of course the Beatles. My parents were HUGE fans of Country Western music, and adored Charley Pride, which totally rubbed off onto me. My very first concert was circa 1971-1972 in Anaheim, California at the Anaheim Convention Center with my parents and yes it was Charley Pride. After that first concert, I’ve proudly seen Charley perform at least 25 more times, and to this very day, in my opinion, he was by far and away the greatest male Country Western vocalist of all time..period, it’s not even close. God rest your soul Charley, and may he bring comfort to your grieving family.

In 1970 I went to my girlfriends house on her birthday. I brought a 45 of this song and played it on her record player as a hint as to what her gift was. When Charlie said rain dripping off the brim of my hat, I handed her a brand new triple x clear beaver cowboy hat. Cost me 18 dollars back then. I cut grass at 50 cents a yard, so i worked my butt off for that hat. Of course she married someone else.

I like all of Charlie’s songs, none of them as much as this one. Very sad to hear of his passing.

RIP Charlie Pride , this news brings tears to my eyes. This was my first favorite song I remember and I got my mom to buy me this song on 45 and played it over and over in my bedroom. Thank you for all the great music over the years.....Godspeed.
