A video of Charli D’Amelio recently went viral, showing her wearing a Walmart employee uniform while posing for photos and checking out people's groceries. This immediately gained attention online, and she was ridiculed for cosplaying as working-class people with real jobs. Meanwhile, videos of Lana Del Rey went viral, showing her "working at Waffle House," and the internet loved it. Why does one receive hate while the other doesn't? Let's discuss it.

As a grocery store worker, I can confirm I couldn't care less about this. I don't care about TikTok stars, but I don't really see anything crazy here. People criticizing her about "cosplaying working class" are probably not working class. Working class people are too busy working , they don't have time to waste getting offended by this.

Another reason im thinking of is that Charli is conventionally attractive and simply happened to post at the right time, place and moment. As much as it pains me to admit this, I am extremely envious of her success and how she didn't need to claw her way to the top due to her being lucky and pretty privelege. I'm also not saying she is a bad dancer as well or she lacks talent. It's just that I've seen better artists out there that deserve recognition and have worked alongside working class before. I don't know her personally but from the way she portrays her social life, its just full of the same rich influencers who have gotten their big breaks due to tiktok

A celeb who did it RIGHT is Taraji P Henson when she went to Target to promote her hair care line. She didn’t pretend to work there, she talked to the workers and customers to find out their opinion on her products, she gave suggestions on which products to use for what and inquired on how she could make the products even better for everyone. She was respectful, she listened and paid attention but most importantly she did not try to act as if she was like everyone else( the whole cringe look how relatable I am show that some celebrities put on). One thing I’d like to defend Charlie on is at the beginning when they say “us too?” During the video, it’s not actually them dreading working there. It’s based on a trend when the normal reply to someone is “you too” which typically follows when someone says “have a good day” but we get so used to saying it that we end up saying it when it doesn’t make sense. For instance, your server brings you food and says “enjoy your meal” and you reply “you too” by mistake because it’s 2nd nature to you. And the trend is following up and actually doing.

Once upon a time, Walmart was one of the best places a common American could work. A huge reason for this was because ALL employees could invest in the company and legit say Walmart is their company…because it was and those people would hit retirement age, they would have over million dollars in their bank accounts and would be living in nice middle class homes during their years of working as Walmart. Now, I’m certain Sam Walton has been rolling in his grave for years now that Walmart is not one of the worst places to work. RIP Sam 😢

It sounds so good right now.🤤

When I was in my 20s I worked at Eagle Hardware (Now Lowe’s) hands down the funnest job with the nicest people. We were almost like a family Just ran into someone I used to work with, he also agreed that was hands down the funnest place to work and we assembled a fantastic group of people as co workers. I started as a cashier and they gave me an opportunity to learn how to design kitchens. Moved to sales and designing kitchens, then promoted to managing customer service and the cashiers, to then managing the Kitchen and Bath department. Then sent me to different states to train and train new employees. When I got pregnant I decided to be a stay at home mom. This was 1998. By this time it was sold to Lowe’s and the whole vibe was changing. I could have stayed and may have even eventually had my own store as there was tons of opportunities but I wanted a family. No regrets… But hands down it was a wonderful time in my life. Looking back I learned A LOT about work ethics and how to treat people Looking down on working class retail employees is wrong. Lots of great people and opportunity to gain experiences you’ll never gain elsewhere

And then it's a whole joke like the waiter starts eating the food and ect. I've seen a lot of versions on Instagram/Tiktok so I don't think they were trying to make it like they were "horrified" at having to work at Walmart 😅I believe they were just following the format of the trend. There’s a few Houston Astros players who took a few shifts at some Raising Cane’s around town as part of a PR thing for both the team and RC this past baseball season. They also had other players go out to different locations meeting people, doing give aways, helping at the store, all that fun stuff. Didn’t see many people complaining and I probably would have gone myself if I didn’t despise Houston traffic so much 😅 though it would have been awesome being the receiving end of a Pena smile, cause all the guys have such sweet smiles 😭😭 So I wonder if Charlie’s issue is that she’s still not quite at that level to where “oh, famous/well known person doing this, how neat!” or if maybe, like Brett said, she wasn’t really doing anything at the store and just using it as a set piece. Not sure as I don’t care one way or another, but this could be something other celebs and the like keep in mind when putting themselves out in ‘common places’ like Walmart or restaurants.

6:07 This story reminds of me of a coworker I once had. He went to the same sandwich restaurant everyday on his lunch break, and he did this for years to the point they knew him by name and exactly what we would order every time. On his last day of work, he let them know he´d no longer be coming there because he was taking a new job and would be moving to a new city, so they gave him his usual meal free of charge as thanks for being a regular customer for so long (and probably for being a genuinely nice guy too). For me, these stories are all about sincerity.
