I admire Steve Jobs, and Conan is great. But I think Charlie Day's speech was the best commencement speech I've seen. Update: I have now finished my first two and a half years back at school. I went back to my community college and retook the classes I dropped out of. Now I have transferred to university and move tomorrow. I grew up here, my family lives here, my girlfriend and her family live here. I am terrified to be far away. Maybe in another two years I will post that I have graduated and did not let fear stop me. I have no idea what the future will bring. But I am grateful to have made it this far.

It has been turned into such a money sucking racquet for those attending, thinking that it will help them be "happy" and "successful". College doesn't do shit for you at all. Period. Everything comes down to your mindset and your desire. Only you can do what YOU need to do to achieve your goals. To all of those people arguing that college made them successful and put their life where they want it, I say bullshit. College didn't do that for you. Not even close. YOU did it. YOU put in the work that YOU felt YOU needed to to help you reach that point in life that you are happy with. Congratulations for achieving your goals. From now on though, stop defending college and start extolling all of your hard work and effort.

I know for a fact Charlie day won't read this but I loved the speech. It made me feel like I wanted to go try for what I want cause honestly you inspire me to be better and to be funny and just be me and do what my heart and mind tells me to do. I enjoy that life is hard and I've already been through allot of rough choices and I'm better off then I was 3 years ago an I'm only 18 I had to mature at a very young age when I was 12 my mom and dad got a divorce. So I had my charge of ups and downs at a young age and went through hell it was hard but I didn't give up. I swear, I saw this on FB the day before I applied for a program. I was unsure if I wanted to apply because I was scared of getting rejected and scared of my not able to manage classes and all of that, but after hearing this just the day before, I shrugged, and I did what he said. I allowed myself to fail, and I thought to myself that even if I failed or didn't get in, at least I tried. If I did get in, and failed, at least I'll know more about my limits. So I took a deep breath and applied. Within the week, I got an interview. My interview is this Saturday, and I'm not sure if I'll get in but at least I made it this fair. Further than I thought I would have, and I will forever live by his words. "You do not have to be fearless, just don't let fear stop you."
