Charlie & his family: White-faced Saki Monkeys｜HKZBG｜白面僧面猴｜香港動植物公園｜シロガオサキ｜キンコブサイチョウ｜タンチョウ｜アカクビワラビー

The video was filmed in February and April 2024 at the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (HKZBG). A male white-faced saki called Charlie came to HKZBG from Singapore in 2018 as part of the Animal Exchange Programme with Singapore Zoo [Ref. 1]. He was then placed with two females residing at HKZBG. In 2021, the two females successfully gave birth to three babies. As of today, 2024, there seem to be additions to the family. I could observe 6 males and 3 females in their exhibits. Their keeper has been in charge of caring for this species for more than 9 years. She mentioned in an interview with a local news site that she feels they are her family. The kids are like her own children [Ref. 2]. In the end of the video, there are short clips of Yellow-casqued Hornbills, a Red-crowned Crane, and Red-necked Wallabies. The red-necked wallabies are a pair of a mother and a son. The gray one is the mother, named Nano, and the white one is named Pico. Pico is albino [Ref. 3].

White-faced saki is a species of the New World saki monkey. Males have white faces with their bodies covered in long black fur. Females, on the other hand, are covered in gray, brown and red. Both have thick tails usually matching their body length. They reach sexual maturity between 32 to 37 months old (around 3 years old) [Ref.4].

私もシロガオサキといえばモップくんをイメージしていたので、メスの姿がこうも違うのかとびっくりしました😆日本では3頭しかいなくて、しかも全員オスということは、もう日本の動物園では今後シロガオサキを飼育していく計画はないのかもしれないですね。キンコブサイチョウは見た目がおもしろくて、つい足を止めて見入ってしまいましたが、その美しさがフェンスでぼやけてしまって残念です。鳴き声が独特ですよね。Rocket Pochiさん、ご視聴・コメントありがとうございました🌸

What fabulous monkeys, they must have a hard time in summer though with that thick coat - the males make me think of portly Victorian gentlemen wearing thick fur coats, they look as if they should be smoking a cigar 😂❤ Love the Hornbills too

They do really have thick coats, don't they? Since their natural habitat is a tropical rainforest, I wonder if their fur may work as a raincoat. I was fascinated by the bushy brown hair of a yellow-casqued hornbill.😍
