Basically Charlie is saying that despite the hardships Asians faced, they made the most of what little they had at the time. It’s that simple, life gives you lemons, make lemonade and use the seeds to grow a lemonade tree, and make more lemonade. Asians knew hard work would get them out of their hardship and it paid off. Anyone can do that, your race doesn’t matter. I am black, English and Scottish, I grew up with very little, and didn’t have a father until my mother got married in 2006. She worked so hard and will always be my #1 Hero because of that. I want to stop that stereotype, so I pushed myself and graduated from university, no criminal record and I’m well spoken for. Yes, there was racism in the past and there still is, but everyone of us needs to power through that and work hard. That’s what my family did and they’re fantastic.

Did it ever occur to you that had teachers been properly paid for the last 60 years, we would have much better teachers? Poor pay and the lack of respect for teachers has led many qualified people to decide to choose other careers to give their children a nicer life.

As a college student, I was just like these kids. I had a view that we could move towards utopia where everyone was doing well. This was back in the late 80s when there were systemic racism still existed though was wrapping up quickly. As I aged, I gained life experience and better understood how people are with some motivated to do well and others feeling they should just be given high standards of living. Today, there is no systemic racism and nothing holding anyone back from their pursuit of happiness. Yet, these kids have been falsely convinced that minorities are purposely being held back by the white majority. But when you ask them for specifics, they have none or they bring up issues that were real long before they were born.
