i think a lot of people forget that tao doesn’t see the cute moments between nick and charlie as we do and he only ever sees him when he’s with harry and when he accepted the date with imogen so his image of not liking nick is totally understandable!! he’s still a bit unbearable at times but he’s a lovely friend, i love him

And he's a young teenager himself, which tends to lead to absolute conviction without the nuance. He's convinced he must be there to protect Charlie from anyone who might hurt him, not perhaps yet realising that without the _potential_ for hurt, there can be no love.

Yes! We even see that in a scene, Nick is with Imogen outside the school and when Charlie turns to see him, he’s looking at Charlie a bit concerned but when Tao turns, Nick is smiling while Imogen is playinf with his jacket iirc

The acting skills of Kit Connor really shocked me during the park scene with Imogen at 9:35 - wow, just wow, for an 18 year old actor to convey so much in this simple scene was amazing to watch. I felt like I was watching an actor with 25 years experience at work, and not an 18 year old. That is how great Kit was in this scene.

nicks communication to charlie in this episode was so refreshing to see, as so many shows prolong miscommunication and wait till the last minute to fix it ahhh i just love them so much

In the first episode when Charlie asked if Nick had heard the conversation between him and Ben he was honest and said "yeah, most of it". He was open about overhearing Tao and Charlie in the bathroom, and there is at least one other instance coming up where Nick is just completely honest about what was said. I appreciate how honest and genuine the character of Nick is.

Also there's some real communications theory going on there. The scene (7:38) where Nick is telling Charlie: "I should have met you when I was younger", has them both quietly leaning with their heads against the grabber-machine, staring at either other as if they were reflections of each other. This is called "mirroring", and indicates they're totally on the same wavelength and there's free and open/honest two way communication. Charlie sort of gets into that same posture that Nick has without even realising it. It doesn't always have to be romantic, but when two people unconsciously mimic each other's body language like that, they're really connecting. I love it :)

the way we saw that Nick is extremely honest in the very first episode when he admitted to hearing most of the conversation between Ben and Charlie. Most people would try to downplay it either out of pity and not wanting to make the other person feel embarrassed, or because it's an awkward situation. But Nick was honest and made Charlie feel better without lying to him. Nick really is the walking textbook example of what to do in like, any given situation.

Loved this episode. Charlie could have outed Nick to Tao in the bathroom, but he didn't. Nick's hug after that to Charlie was so beautiful. Both a 'thank you' and a 'I'm sorry' - for making you to lie to your friends for me.....ugh - so great! The photo gift was EVERYTHING!

The hug was totally beautiful. Nick has the amazing ability to just make Charlie melt with those hugs, it's such a warm and all-encompassing hug, you can really feel it in Charlie's facial expressions - he went from "why is Nick hugging me like that?" to "I don't care why, this feels great!" to "I'm in heavennnnn!!" Great acting by both actors!

Imogen took that rejection and explanation really well, I can't dislike her. And wow the bravery of Nick, for someone to not be out yet but want to kiss in a crowded public place, that takes effort. And properly explaining and apologising to Charlie really shows he cares and is a great example of how good communication makes relationships stronger.

Kit Connor is a damn hugging savant. There's no micro expressions of discomfort or being body shy. He commits to the hug fully. A lot of guys have the kind of hugging body language that says 'This hug is not for me, it's for them'. That's not to say those types of hugs aren't affectionate or loving, but they lack a certain level of vulnerability. The way Nick hugs Charlie looks like he's openly showing that he wants to receive comfort just as much as he wants to provide it.

I really like this show and how it subverts expectations, as avid fans of tv shows and LGBTQ+ content we expect a certain plotline in shows about gay romance, like the closeted one being mean to the other in front of people, or pretending they dont exist, Or something like that date going unexpected, like he went on the date and they become a couple which strains the relationship between the two love interests. But this show just throws all that away and says, No, this is a wholesome story about two boys falling in love and one coming to terms and coming out without super messy drama that breaks them up. Nick was with Charlie the whole time and just needed to learn who he was without the pressures of his "friends" getting involved.
