You haven't said a word about using e4 to e5 after setting up. In other words, what happens if this came about, which as an American, Scandinavian style player, I would play myself. So; 1. E4 2... G7 3. D4 4... Bg7 5. E5 What will the Sniper do against that set up, or a similar one? While I think your explanation was decent, that move was obvious to me, and I thought you would have explained that to us. Now if I simply didn't hear that, I'm sorry, but you should've included that move in your video.

Today is the first day that I've ever seen this called the sniper. I've played this many times because I play the Marin English (2.g3) almost exclusively with white, and the ideas are familiar. I usually lead with ...c5 against 1. e4, but 1...g6 makes sense when I think about getting that bishop to g7 with no shenanigans from white.

one game against an amateur is not proof that an opening is garbage, the line you played is playable if black plays decently. Here he opted for the clearly ugly 4. ...Na6, and then proceeded to play other asinine moves like 14. ...d5, you cant expect to have "refuted" an opening with opposition like that.

Na6 was certainly stupid, though, and I dont doubt this opening itself is shaky, but this guy using a random online bullet game against an untitled player as a way to claim the opening is bad is kinda ridiculous in premise anyway

@@joedorben3504 Was analysing the Sniper today and I used to play Sniper myself years ago. I gave it up as it really was not up to the task as a universal opening. However it is good that Charlie has updated his recommendations. After the Sniper I started to play Tigers Modern instead, which also always starts with 1... g6 and 2...Bg7 and in some variations it can be beneficial to know something about the Sniper Also the line Ray Gordon played "1. e4 g6 2. d4 Bg7 3. Nf3 c5 4. dxc5" is the one I play against the Sniper. No matter what the variation white has an advantage so no wonder Charlie does not recommend to play 3...c5 anymore as it is a bit suspicious way to play against that particular move order.
