@2:51 I just looked up how much an Apartment costs at 600 So. Alvarado street. A 400 SQ FT Studio starts at $1,295. I can't imagine paying that much to live near this Hell Hole. The ad said that it's a great area for biking and walking. By walking they must mean "Street Walking".

This area is horrendous. The first 2min of the alley crawl is just next to the street from a project I worked on (Westlake). We would walk in a group of 5 or 6 of us at 5am. I’ve worked in Compton, watts, blah blah blah. This McArthur park area was the worst. Its like international waters out there while it’s dark.

Govermnet fucking sucks. That shit ain't even worth a dollar. It puts the PS5 and 1000 dollar phones to shame. Hey! This hellhole is 200 dollars more than an actual decent living phone. "Oh this other place? It's the most peaceful place around. That's why I made it 100k dollars so it's harder for you to live in nice places!" We just want you to be homeless that's fine!"

Unfortunately you're striking at the heart of the problem. The rent is too damn high across the country! We are living in an era where billionaires pay little to no taxes while the rest of us live off crumbs. America is becoming a third world country due to long term system corruption. It's shameful that any person in the richest country in the history of the world is homeless, yet we allow thousands of fellow Americans to die in the streets from poverty and lack of healthcare.

I lived here around Wiltshire and Alvarado back in 2008-2010 and you could barely find trash or graffiti. At night the sidewalks and streets were empty. On the weekends downtown and Skid row were like a ghost town. I remember thinking wow I guess the old Los Angeles is gone forever. Good to see it’s back like I remember it in the 80s and 90s, nice and violent

Homelessness in L.A. is an incredibly complex issue. The lack of accessible mental healthcare plays a significant role. Childhood trauma often leads to substance abuse. There is an influx of people from other states, drawn to L.A., further adding to the homeless population. Then add the high housing costs and inadequate social services... it goes on an on, so complex. At the end of day these are Americans, our brothers and sisters. More important to try to help them than to argue about who did what.

@@likwidshoe I mentioned that, as well as the lack of social programs. In comparison, Portugal's decision to decriminalize personal drug possession and use has benefitted both addicts and society. By shifting from a criminal to a public health approach, Portugal has reduced stigma, increased access to treatment, and lowered overdose rates. Drug use among youth has declined and incarceration rates for drug-related offenses have dropped. The policy has proven cost-effective, redirecting resources from law enforcement to public health initiatives.
