I really hope Amy sticks at it and is successful in the end, we only get to see a short snippet of each day and being on camera probably changes how people behave so I don't want to slate her but it's hard not to notice all the standing about or complaining... Can't help but feel if she was a Harry or Liam i.e. not the bosses Mrs, she'd be getting told to sort her attitude out. In such a lucky position to be learning a trade from her other half... Get on with it and make the most of the opportunity 👍🏻👍🏻

I’m a Landscaper and work on many New builds. Why do they put that expansion gap in nowadays? As I see it on every property we’ve worked at recently
@willbee6785
@willbee6785 3 жыл бұрын
Well you did ask. Where do I start or finish more like. All building materials, bricks, blocks, wood, steel, glass + many others have thermal expansion, or known as thermal expansion of materials. They are all known scientifically. With heat & cold they expand & contract. Say for example, a 25m concrete block wall without an expansion joint that has a render coat, it is most likely the blocks & render will develop hairline cracks over time due to the materials squeezing & expanding against each other. Then it will then let in rainwater which could freeze & expand 9% as water expands 9% when it freezes. Over a long winter & consequent winters the render will boss & probably fall off over time. It’s the same with different bricks. E.g. London Brick (LB) won’t sell “ Heathers” bricks north of the border because they are soft & I presume LB think they are not hard enough to take Scottish winters, not like a hard engineering brick for example. In summary all building materials need a bit of expansion. This applies to mortar mixes as well. With bricks & blocks in particular, it stops cracks. Buildings/houses built say 40 years ago, would have benefitted from expansion joints. Thanks to organisations like the BRE Group years ago they’ve improved things a lot. It’s a long story your question. Hope this helps.

@duncanhiggins6463
@duncanhiggins6463 3 жыл бұрын
I’m guessing that a wooden plate is bolted to the surface of the wall and the floor joists are fixed to that . This helps with airtightness and soundproofing,which are often compromised when the floor joists are built in.

Generally frame head height is 2.1m and that works 28 courses of brickwork and 9 courses of blocks and then a briquette. For the lintels to sit on. It's deemed good practice now to put a course of brackets somewhere into e middle of your courses so your lintels sit on a full block. It's best to place where the window frames are bedded to save too much cutting but remembering kitchen windows will always be 1050 deep and others 1200or 1350 etc. Whatever works the least cutting. Hope you can make sense of my waffling. Lol. Lovely old bark and growl Charlie boy
