I think I got more out of this tutorial then all I have watched in recent years. I have a problem that was recently brought to my attention, which I completely agreed with. I tend to overthink things waaaay to much. I had completely forgotten my old favorite principle, KISS(keep it simple stupid). I'm my own worst enemy. Thanks for the reminder, it put a different spin on things for me.

Thank you my guy. I have been stuck in pentatonic hell for months. And it’s hard to solo for a new player when you try to play all of those notes in the scale. What you showed me is to concentrate on a few notes. I have came up with a few melodies that sound pretty good! So, from the struggling pentatonic scale guy I thank you!!!

The problem I have is I can play notes by ear and they fit, but have no idea what scale or mode I’m playing. Is this a common problem?
@CharlieLongGuitarКүн бұрын
Here’s the thing - if you’re able to play things that sound good over the kinds of music you love - then it’s not a problem at all!!! It’s when you get into complicated chord changes and using your ear gets tougher knowing the theory really is beneficial. Keep up the good work!! 🎸🎶🔥🎶🎸

First time this week i managed to start picking out notes between 1st and fourth (i dont have a way of playing along with backing tracks yet due to wjere i live) and the 1 3 5 over both chords just jumped out and i started to hear the relationship.. total aha moment! And ending on a 135 of the next chord just before it comes in was like a bomb going off! Looking back now i was picturing just the top 2-3 strings but had the chords in my head but the 2-3 string thing i hadn't given enough credit for and on reflection was the clincher to that moment.. Thank you! 🙏 Also love your rig rundown! The red on that guitar is just mwah! Was wondering what pickups are they? Thank you for another great vid and timely lesson! Much appreciated 😎🙏🕊️✨

Your tone is amazing - can you explain your setup?
@CharlieLongGuitar6 күн бұрын
@@ecojot Gladly! For this video I used a pair of plugins! In the “teaching” parts I was using the ToneX app; the tone was a capture of a Suhr SL57 which is a great plexi style amp. For the playthroughs I was using Neural DSP Archetype Plini. Both the mid gain and high gain amps in the Plini plugin sound fantastic, plus the delay and reverb sound incredible also. if i could play like this im done for life.. i love melodic solos and i try my best, but like you said, i play aimlessly and if i try to cook some melody in my head before i can play it, i cant seem to think of melodic tunes to try it on the guitar. i play by feel and sound with elementary level theory knowledge.
@CharlieLongGuitar4 күн бұрын
@@SS-fs5tw I think this is the kind of thing that can help you! Pick a small group of notes, and just experiment with different ways of combining those notes and phrasing them. Keeping it simple helps you hear melodies 🎸🎶🔥🎶🎸

@@CharlieLongGuitar ya.. youre right. but for some reason i keep doing a bend and pick on the first note and the playing the note above it over and over again. i cant think of other ways. even though i know there is slide and double stos too at my disposal. its juts that i am stuck with a standard way of playing notes and i am getting bored of myself .
