I hope it's helpful. What's your favorite Dire Straits song? Obviously for me it's Sultans, but I really like So Far Away too... it has a good tune.

Great explanation! You covered some things I haven't seen/heard before, Thank you!!! Recently found those shared chord tones they're a real golden nugget when making up solos! Yes so far away is awesome and I just recently looked it up, the way it all fits together one part after another the way it does and has some gorgeous dynamics both for the instrument and the player, but brothers in arms would have to be my DS fave, his use of feedback and volume swells are so evocative and fits the song perfectly.. Thank you for the share 🙏🕊️

Thank you very much for sharing your insights in such a fun and informative way. My fingers are too slow to play this song well, so I’m not really into learning the whole track. But the way you break it down makes me want to study the parts and learn from them. Thank you!

Love the student pastiches. It would be hilarious if it wasn't me making exactly the same mistakes. 👍

haha, it's pretty much all students. It's always amazing to me how the same challenges come up, and they are irrespective or a student's age or where in the world they live.
