Wow... I don't think I've EVER seen a flame war on an online forum that ended with someone admitting they overreacted and apologizing. Very mature. You've got my respect. Neil's just a person. He takes great pains to try to be true to himself, and that sometimes causes him to behave selfishly. I believe that, like most non-sociopathic people, he means well. He just has a hard time compromising.

Just one of the greatest of all time, what else can I say, great singer,composer, guitarist, and now an older and wiser Neil to teach us some lessons on life. And he should know about it, he's been there in the battle fields and he's already won he's war, so keep on rocking Mr. Young and in the mean time keep the faith alive.

Neil Young has a gift, he is able to put into words what we feel, in a way that goes beyond words, it just is. Add all his other musical talents and you get a force of nature. He can increase the quality of peoples lives with his music, so happy he made it, life wouldn't be the same without him.

Neil Young is one of the greatest songwriters ever, right up there with Bob Dylan. I love his songs, the chances he's taken in his career. Hey RPFS2008, As I said I really appreciate that you have given these things some thought and just not accept anything anybody says. There are many false preconceptions people hold about Christianity in particular that do not hold water. The Bible has been vindicated time and again, I have been studying this for years and have not arrived at this conclusion lightly.

So true what he says, no labels needed, just have faith and let nature run its course. It's all about feeling something, I think that's why he's been so successful, he did what he felt and didn't give a shit about the rest.
@rutterdownunder15 жыл бұрын
Agnostic perhaps, but think about the subtlety of his definition of faith. Reminiscent of Alan Watts's definition: "faith is the unreserved opening of the mind." In my opinion we need more people who, like Neil Young here, are willing to admit there are mysteries in life that don't always fit into a neat story. I am Christian but feel a deep appreciation for his sentiments.

"I love nature..." He and the late English (and also nature-loving) author John Fowles are so alike as artists despite neither of them probably having even heard of the other. They do it for themselves mostly and are therefore pure and a high class. I'd put Beethoven with them too of course. Incidentally has anyone else noticed how so many of NY's songs are about motion of some sort?

Dear Celticlofts: Sorry if I offended. I didn't know if you were describing him or accusing him. I remember being in my church thinking a lot of things were pagan, and therefore not so very good. The thing about paganism, is that you are repsonding to what you can see and touch and know..and still find the mystery in it. Love the Earth, it's precious...

This interview sums up about everything about music, writing and culture. That is what puts Neil, Dylan and Vic Chesnutt on a plane that can't be touched. They understood something outside of pop music and fame and reached a maturity worthy of special attention. They get it I think-but they are old people. If Hendrix had lived another couple of years he might have reached the pantheon. I would be interested in other contributions to this pantheon.

@kingalow1 I'm not even a fan of the guy, but I can tell that's what makes Neil Young so great; he doesn't care about those things. He does not care about that which truly doesn't matter. Think about it. Who in their right mind gets worked up because they have stains on their shirt? Is that something that really matters in life? Sure, it matters to people who value outward appearances more than inward character. That's not Neil Young. He is someone who comes straight from the heart.

Faith is only as good as the thing you trust. By his own admission Neil Young does not know what who or what he has faith in. The closest he gets is saying he is in awe of, and loves nature. He also says that the amazing talent he has is a gift. That being so, there must be a gift giver. Neil needs to take the next step and give glory to the God of all creation. Mr. Young fits the description of those in Romans chapter one who worship the creature rather than the Creator.

@kingalow1 Ha! Actually, I've seen him wearing that shirt on stage. It has splotches of abstract colour all over it. It looks kind of funky when you see the whole shirt, but admittedly, it doesn't work so well seeing just a bit of it under a blazer. I'd bet that they added the blazer for television just because the shirt glared too much under the studio lights.

His subsequent remarks about spirituality and ecumenical proclivities reveal the darkened state of his mind in regard to truth. I love Neil Young and much of his music, he is a tremendously gifted man. I pray he will really seek the truth with all of his heart before he enters eternity. "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Jesus Christ - John 14:6 "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Jesus Christ - John 8:32

I have no "self righteousness" as the only righteousness I have is that imputed to me by God through the blood of Jesus Christ. And that is sufficient for me and all who take God at His word. I appreciate the fact you are impassioned enough to get angry at the Gospel and those who proclaim it, no one can accuse you of being apathetic. I would rather converse with you than someone who simply does not give a hoot one way the other.
