I can't deny that she is a good singer, but there is something about her voice that is particularly noticeable here - a kind of nasality, almost as if she has a cold, that produces a slightly hard, metallic timbre. Or she goes to the other extreme, fashionable these days, of being too breathy, for my taste at least. Her sound is very contemporary, to be sure, but I'm not sure contemporary is particularly flattering to her voice. Millions of record sales, no doubt, scream that I'm wrong, and I'd like to like her more. She showed a lot of guts after Manchester, and I loved no more tears left to cry, and next. Maybe it's the songs, I'm hardly her target demographic after all. But I wish they were a bit happier, wish she was a bit happier, for her own sake. She is very young to be disillusioned with her own remarkable success.
