The firemen story unlocked a real core memory for me. When I was 12 I was riding my bike with my friend and got a flat tire. I was probably about 1 hour hike away from home and we had no cell phones (of course) and there wasn’t a pay phone nearby, but we did find a firehouse. So I knocked on their door and asked if I could call my parents to come and get me and my bike. They were so kind and funny. They let me call my parents and wait with them in their lounge to be picked up. They insisted on feeding me chilli and giving me like 4 full size chocolate bars from their snack drawer 😂. I’m sure it was a highlight for them to have the monotony of their day broken up for a little bit while waiting to be called out for an emergency and I will always be grateful for their fun spirits and kindness. Firefighters are cool people 😊

I love firefighters! I live off-grid on 20 acres in a place with a history of deadly wildfires. My nearest neighbor's home was destroyed in 2006 by a wildfire started by arson. The cops found the arsonist, and he was convicted of murder and is on death row now. All five of the firefighters who tried to save my neighbor's home died in that fire, the Esperanza Fire. My neighbor didn't rebuild his house, but he built a nice memorial for those 5 brave firefighters instead. 10 years ago, another major fire swept over the mountain, another arson fire. This time, my son and I were home but weren't able to evacuate so we were trapped. Fortunately, there were 2 fire engine companies parked at the fire memorial, so they came and stayed with us and kept the flames from reaching our house as we sheltered inside, scared to death. We weren't allowed to drive down the mountain for over a week while guardrails were replaced and roads repaired where the road had melted. When we could finally drive to town, I told my son that if there were any firefighters at the memorial I'm going to get out and thank them for saving us, and give them all hugs! He laughed and said, "You just want to hug a hunky fireman!" As we got to the memorial, I saw a fire truck and a firefighter so I stopped. My son was laughing when he saw that the firefighter was a powerfully-built woman with very short hair. He wrongly assumed that I would not hug her! Ridiculous. I told her that we owe her and her crew our very lives and "thank you" doesn't say enough (I realized she was one of about a dozen firefighters who were at our house protecting us through that nightmare). I asked her if I could hug her, she hugged me and I broke down, sobbing for the first time since the ordeal. It finally hit me how close we came to death. Firefighters are a special kind of brave! We sure do love them around here! 👩‍🚒🚒

@LazyIRanch
@LazyIRanch Жыл бұрын
@@davidguidry657 The thing about Home Depot is that I don't have to pretend to be confused, I can't find sheeyit in that store, and employees rarely know where to find things either. I look around for the older gentlemen (or women) who seem to know stuff, especially if they are wearing a shirt with their electrical/plumbing/ or construction company's name. Major bonus if the company name is something like "Javier's Plumbing", and the name embroidered on his shirt is "Javier". Several years ago I bought a new kitchen faucet, but unfortunately discovered the fittings were all metric so I needed to buy connection adapters to connect metric to English sized pipe fittings under the sink. The HD employee I asked said they didn't have those parts, but I saw a grey-haired fella smiling and shaking his head when he said that, so I asked him if he knew what I was looking for because I thought maybe I wasn't explaining it correctly. He set his basket aside and found everything I needed and even put it together for me so all I had to do was connect the hoses to the supply line when I got home. He gave me detailed instructions of how to complete the job which really helped since I'd never repaired plumbing before.

I'm a licensed Optician. People putting their glasses amongst the frames they were trying on happens A LOT!! It's usually easy to find them. The lenses that are RX look very different than the demo lenses. As far as the question regarding being too blind to see the frames once they take their glasses off, all shops have magnifying mirrors. Also they can sit in front of special camera's that record them in different styles to review when they are done.

It can really be a matter of seconds, that will determine the life of the death of a child. My relative experienced also the loss of one of their kids due to drowning, it happened so fast. Mama bear mode unlocked! I remember I was standing on a dock while my daughter was with her aunts and uncles in the water, and one of the bigger kids launched a float back towards the shoreline where she was standing and got knocked into the water. I ran so fast I tripped on my pants and jumped over a bank of rocks to grab her, even though by then she was fine and out of the water, I panicked and just tried my hardest to get to her as fast as possible. I broke a toe and messed myself up pretty good, but at least my baby was safe, and after that day I didn't trust her in the water without me again! I’m pretty sure I’m late to the party and not many people will see this, but the baptism story reminds me of when my father got baptized after he retired and joined my mother’s church. What was so funny about the baptism is that nobody thought to tell the preacher that my dad is extremely afraid of any kind of standing water because he nearly drowned as a child. My dad, being a big man, nearly took the preacher with him because he wouldn’t let go of him. 😂 I wasn’t at the service, but I have seen the video of it. They laugh about it still.

4:16 they actually make glasses for this, you can get transforming ones or straight up sunglasses with your type. They change pretty easily and there’s multiple layers you can chose from about how dense you want them to be sun glasses. They only transform under sunlight and their pretty much regular glasses inside buildings and such. 🙃

3:00 Ever since I started using Latisse for lashes, I hardly have to use mascara. This is some sort of cosmetological miracle, since now that I am a "seasoned citizen," my lashes seemed to be disappearing. Hats off to you ladies who can sit in a stylist's chair and let them finagle around on your eyes! I would make for the worst lash client ever.

The glasses question is a true mystery of the world... When I go to the optometrist (I fortunately get both glasses and contacts), I have to bring my contacts with me and put them in after the exam just so that I can see myself when shopping for frames. If you ONLY have glasses, yeah, that whole process is infuriating. That's why online try-ons are so key to some, or otherwise you might wanna take selfies so you can put your glasses back on and see what you looked like LOL, it's a whoooooole thing.

I'm so glad that I can order glasses online! They cost much less so I can buy more than one pair. I even have some that have glow-in-the-dark frames! I wish insurance would cover the cost of glasses bought online. I am poor, so I have Medicaid insurance. Last time I got a new Rx, they told me I could get free glasses if I chose from about 2 dozen cheaper frames that retailed for $150 or less. I chose a pair, but they only lasted 2 weeks. The plastic frames were so cheaply made that they broke while I was wearing them. I felt a "pop" and the lenses fell out while I was watching TV. I didn't even touch them. The frames were too tight against the lenses, so they broke in several places. I glued them back together, but they snapped in a different place, then both earpieces broke off too. The plastic was so weak it was crumbly! I took them back to see if they would replace them. Not only did they refuse, the woman behind the counter rather loudly told me that if I wanted better glasses, I should have paid for them, and I shouldn't expect to get "fancy" frames paid for by Medicaid. She humiliated me in front of a waiting room full of people, who looked at me like I just crawled out of the gutter! I told her I wasn't expecting "fancy" glasses, but I was expecting them to be functional for longer than 2 weeks. Then she accused me of letting my dog chew them up. No, my 12 year old, well-behaved border collie didn't do this. He's never chewed up anything, especially not glasses. The frames were pretty generic, so I found a pair of sunglasses at Dollar Tree that the lenses fit into perfectly, so I put the lenses into those $1.25 frames and they are holding up well. The optometrist didn't "give" me "free glasses", as that bitchy employee insinuated. Medicaid paid them $150 for that useless garbage that was inferior to frames bought at Dollar Tree! I probably should write a review of this optometrist's office to warn other low-income folks of how they may be treated there.

My son wears glasses (since age 3), he really can't see clearly without them. I was helping him trim his facial hair, he had taken the glasses off, I asked him to check if it was good. He asked for his glasses, but I didn't hear him so I repeated it again "check if it's good". He yelled "Mama I can't check my face without my glasses". I laughed so hard 🤣🤣🤣

I've been using glasses since I was a teenager because I have myopia. Far away objects appear blurry, but objects in front of me are sharp and clear. I have no problem looking in the mirror, or reading, or using a phone or tablet without them. In fact, I take them off. It took me a while to know that some people can't see clearly near nor far.

When Charlotte asked the serious question about blind people trying on glasses, but having no way of knowing if the friend, care worker or shop assistant is offering genuine advice or just having a bit of a laugh. I know for a fact that I would turn assisting a blind person with bad advice as I used to do it with a friend who was completely colour blind. He only saw black, white and shades of grey. We would still be doing it now if he hadn’t have got married. His wife has no sense of humour and used to object when he turned up at hers dressed in such outfits as lime green pants, a purple jacket and a pink shirt. This got me thinking. How does a blind person know for sure that they have fully wiped themselves after they have used the toilet? After giving this much consideration I decided that they must generally have an optimum amount of wipes. At this point the person then has to rely on other senses in order to ensure their bottom is clean. When I say other senses I mean their noses. If I were ever to develop severe vision loss or complete blindness then I would buy a bidet or shower as part of my post poop regime. With regard my colourblind friend we have often discussed that we will know if she is no longer happy in the relationship. It will be when he she starts having him buy and wear similar unmatching colours like the ones we had him walk around in.
