My husband used to crack jokes that he would love me even if I was 300 pounds, that he wouldn't take me anywhere, but would still love me. 19 years into our marriage I suffered an autoimmune disease that spiked my weight. My husband loves me, supports me, and helps me through this difficult time with grace. I'm more hard on myself than he could ever be. He reminds me that part of our wedding vows included "until death due us part" and that everyone knows old people sag and wrinkle beyond recognition, and that I'll need an extra 40 or 50 years to get there because I'm the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. He adds the part where I gave him his greatest blessings in five daughters, who gave him grandkids. Ladies, recognize good men where they are and help them become great men for your legacy!

To get over the 13 year age gap, he probably also told her that she's "mature for her age"... I swear this is the first page in the groomer handbook...so many people that have told stories over SM and the few I know in real life that got out of these situations (finally, in some cases) have said that is what their groomer told them...sometimes many times. It makes them feel special and flattered that this mature person thinks they are mature too. Honestly, at 15, I would have fallen for it. I'll be the first to admit that my young self was easily influenced and naïve (maybe also a bit stupid lol).

Lucy is toxic AF. honestly sounds like she was emotionally abusing OP's fiance, and didn't expect him to actually move on with OP. the fact she was willing to hurt her friend in a twisted effort to mess with Erwins head once more, speaks volumes at what kind person Lucy is: 'if you get her to love you, you're worthy of me'. This was no bet. this was an abuser losing control of her victim, and not expecting said victim to actually move on with the friend she wanted to hurt. By the sounds of it, Erwin met OP, liked her, it come up in conversation with Lucy who got jealous, freaked out and made up said bet, Erwin was like, "whatever, crazy Lucy". So Lucy brings it up now making a big deal out of it because she doesn't want them to get married. So literally not marrying him is playing right into Lucy's hands and giving her what she wants, a shot with Erwin. Dump Lucy and you'll both be happier for it.

I don't like that he lied about knowing Lucy. But other than that, I think he reacted appropriately, was honest about not marrying her for a bet, and is earnestly in love with her. But there are some lies he needs to regain trust from. Even if they weren't exclusive the fact that it was her best friend he was seeing during that time is something he should have told her before proposal stage. I'd want to know that my bridesmaid/bff had sex with my future husband BEFORE the wedding.

I told my current husband (when we got engaged) that we wouldn’t get married unless he saw a doctor and I got to come. He’s in his 50s and a bit overweight and hadn’t been to a doctor in YEARS!! He hates doctors and hospitals and it’s a genuine fear. He agreed and I set him up with a great male doctor that listened to him and joked with him and now he has proper heart medication and anxiety meds and he LOVES his new doctor. My mother kept my father, who recently passed, alive for 30 years (60-89) by controlling his medical care and knowing EVERYTHING. The doctors just spoke directly to her. Woman would grab IVs and go, "Nope! He had an allergic reaction to that med in 1999." Saved his life more times than I can count. "He has an infection." No, he doesn't. "He only acts like this when he has an infection. Test him." Cue ambulance arriving at doctors office. Now, she feels like she didn't do good enough or else he would still be alive. It's impossible to explain to her that LOVE literally kept that man's heart beating, despite all odds, for decades beyond his life expectancy. It's a powerful drug. I moved home to keep her company. It helps. But I'm NOT her partner of 60 years. I'm her daughter. I'll never know her that way. I wish she knew how extraordinary of a job she did. But to her, that WAS her job. And she failed.

When my husband and I were dating and started talking about marriage I felt like it was super important to be honest. I told him my mom struggled to have the 2 kids she had, my sister adopted her kids, and I had no clue if I would be able to have kids myself. We discussed if that was a deal breaker for him and it wasnt so we were on the same page about adopting or fostering if necessary from the start. 20 years later, 2 kids and several miscarrages and 2 tubal pregnancies and he is still my rock.

I had a lesbian best friend once and I loved our friendship because there was never any of that weird female competition that I often run into, and there was so much laughter. Our friendship ended for a different reason - I went into a deep depression and she took it personally when I didn't feel like leaving the house to socialize. If it weren't for that, we probably would have remained friends, but I guess it's a good thing that I found out that she won't stick it out with me during the real moments in life. In hindsight it was the beginning of his ongoing resentment of anything he felt our marriage (and later, child) kept him from doing - his infidelity with a good friend was the last straw that ended everything. Admittedly, we were both young and stupid and now are happy with others. We have maintained a cordial relationship as parents. The insight came too late to prevent the wedding, though.

The fiancé’ with the list of changes and demands - I had to break it off with someone just like this about 6 months ago! He was my HS sweetheart & we had remained friends over the years. All that time he talked about how much he loved my spirit, my authenticity and so on. The first time we went to visit someone from his family he asked me “are you wearing that?” Granted, I am a very feral woman 😂. I cut/rip all my shirts & have a mo-hawk. Think of MadMax & punk 80’s in general. But I always look like this, 24/7 and when I share things on social, I look like this. His family knows exactly what I look like and how I dress now, it wasn’t like they were going to be shocked. If anything most people get shocked when I dress normal 😂. Honestly, with him being 13 years older than her 23 year old self, I think he honestly thought she would change. He probably figured now that she's "his" she'll do whatever he wants. He figured she was moldable and he could make her into what he wanted her to be, but she caught on and called him out. Honestly, if he'd been a little more subtle about the list, she may have accidentally sailed past it like she likely has many other red flags by this point. Take it from an old (40s) woman, if he says "you're so mature for your age" you're not, he's grooming you. Same goes for when old women say it too to groom young people. It's so subtle that people don't notice it. If he waited until after the wedding and then started liking bigger racks on instagram, started pointing out larger women on the beach to her, and then subtly suggested that if she wanted to, he would pay for hers to get augmented, she may do it. Same thing with babies, or tradwife lifestyle, or any number of things they want you to do. If they do it subtly you never even realize you were not really the one guiding that ship, just headed due east on what you think is a happy marriage boat.

That third story, Liar, just reminded me of a meme I saw the other day on YT "women dont pick bad men, they just lie about their entire personalities to bait and get you". People were pointing out how they would find stuff out (like basically how they really feel about them or how they truly are as people) AFTER they got married or got pregnant or had something happen further down the line. Another being just agreeing with whatever you say when asking "what do you like to do?" when dating and building their persona around yours. The way he did that to her and she was so upfront about her issues and boundaries 😔 This man is a MONSTER. He reminds me of the saltanat case going on in Kazakhstan rn (tragic but please check it out if you can to show support because the perpatrator was the ex prime minister) because why would you get with someone and unearth all their traumas, insecurities and traits just to weaponize them? The reaching out secretly to her parents is as disgusting as it is a breeech of privacy. That monster is the definition of those men who like "a challenge" as in breaking women 😢 I'm sorry she went through that

Yeah my ex husband was the same way. He asked me to marry him when I was 17 and he was 21. I got pregnant after our engagement and because I live in a certain state, we got a letter saying we were common law married (together for over 2 years and shared several bills and now a child). And he claimed me on taxes as a spouse so he could claim head of household. So that was it. He threw a huge tantrum, left for a week saying he was at his moms (he left the state to go to his gf place… she called the day he got back and she said he told her I was just a roommate) and all the while he lied so much he didn’t even tell me his favorite color until after we filed for divorce and he claimed I knew nothing about him and I never cared about him. Lol!! Which is rich considering he used to lay out my outfit for the day and would tell me to speak when spoken to etc. when he got home at 3,4,5,6 am I was expected to be waiting for him with a bucket of water for his feet and warm plate. He expected his clothes cleaned folded and pressed, but I wasn’t allowed to put them away because that meant I was going through his things. It’s insane how insane he was towards me. But when I snapped, all of a sudden I am the crazy psycho bad guy. Yup. I know that story all too well.

Y'all, there are people out there - therapists, ministers, independent officiants, who offer premarital counseling. I don't care how long you've been dating or living together - DO IT (counseling). My spouse & I just celebrated 28 years married, and I think a lot was settled early because we'd already talked about all the tough stuff (finances, illness, sex & family, etc). And no, we who offer counseling are NOT judging you and whether or not you should get married. It is purely for bettering your communication and discussing the tough stuff you either don't feel like talking about on a "regular" day, or a topic that is best discussed with a neutral 3rd party to stop any arguments and keep things progressing.

Finally, he refused to interact with any of them..and ultimately asked ME to marry him. Of course I said "yes".. Fast forward...we have 2 preteen girls, he has his own business, and I am a vet tech and a winning jockey. My last 4 races I finished in the money. I know this has been long, but I wanted to point out that the mean girls didn't even bother with me because I didnt fit their niche: looks wise; career wise, man wise. I had a couple of friends like Lucy in my youth. I'd tell them I liked someone, and they would turn around a flirt with them and then start dating them. It would suck to watch that happen and I would always wonder why I wasn't pretty enough to catch their eye. My confidence was definitely stole from me and I finally woke up and quit considering them as friends and cut them out of my life. Best move I've ever made for me and my mental health.
