My wife's maid of honour was her best friend from school. When my wife had her stroke (before I met her) her maid of honour was there for her, making 100 mile round trips to visit her in hospital. When my wife came of of hospital hemiparuplegic and with aphasia her friend continued to treat her no different than before her stroke. The only exception is when they have a girl's night out, her MoH makes sure my wife remains vertical. She supported my wife all through the arrangements for the wedding and continues to be a great friend for my wife. I owe my wife's MoH more than I can ever repay her, there’s some amazing friends and MoH out there as well as the poo ones.

I was asked to be in a wedding as a bridesmaid, and the bride had 'A' as her maid of honour. The Bride and 'A' had known one another since they were children, the other two bridesmaids worked with the Bride, and I was a new friend, but we spent a LOT of time together hanging out, me, the Bride, and her soon-to-be-hubby. 'A' disliked me, thought I shouldn't be a bridesmaid because I (and she literally said this to me), "Hadn't earned my place as a friend yet" and "hadn't been friends with Bride long enough to even stand up there with the rest of us." I kept the peace and said nothing. But, we would go out for lunch while dress shopping, and I'd pick up the Bride's tab (she was buying things for us, I didn't want her paying for lunch), and during dress shopping, 'A' hated every dress/colour the Bride picked, and fought all her wants. The other 3 of us were easy-going, I already had a general idea of what she wanted, having spent time at her place and helping her look online. By the time we picked dresses, 'A' had threatened twice to not be in the wedding if she couldn't have a different dress or colour from the rest of us, because she hated everything. The Bride called her bluff, turned and asked me if I would be MOH, which sent 'A' on a rampage, and she stormed outside and literally screamed. She stayed in the wedding, but helped with none of the planning. The rest of us did it all, because I think 'A' just wanted the title for having known the Bride the longest. They don't speak anymore.

I had an odd experience with my bridesmaid once. I had noticed my husband was acting weird before the garter removal/toss, but thought it was just the idea of going under my dress in front of the crowd. Right after he came out with the garter and tossed it, my bridesmaid got super upset, stomped away, and left the reception. When I asked what was going on, she had apparently talked to and convinced my husband that instead of pulling the garter out from under my wedding dress, that it would be hilarious to pull out a gigantic pair of underwear that she had sewn together and covered in stains. At the last minute he (thankfully) changed his mind. She was upset, because she had spent “so much time” creating this masterpiece of humiliation and he had chosen not to follow through.

One of my bridesmaids, who is a lifelong friend, couldn't afford her dress or getting her hair done, so my hubby & I covered the cost, discreetly. It meant more to me to have her there and with what a wedding costs, even a small one, what was another $100 or so??? We didn't miss the money but I'd have missed one of my dearest friends if she wasn't standing up there with me!

I was MOH in my best friend’s wedding. It was a month after I lost my mom so she told me that she would understand if I couldn’t make it and her 2 cousins offered to stand in for me. Even though it was a rough time for me, I knew that I made a commitment to my best friend and I wanted to follow through with that and be there to share her special day. Also, my mom absolutely loved my bestie and would’ve wanted me to be there for her. A couple weeks before the wedding she asked for a picture of my mom for her memorial table and I gave her my granny’s ring to wear for the something old and something borrowed tradition. She is truly the best friend I’ve ever had and I’d do anything for her that I’m able to.

My best friend moved to Texas before she passed (I'm in VA) I sent her a text one morning that took her HOURS to respond to (as I'm a morning person and she's a night owl) it said "I need my best friend 😭" when she responded it was a screen shot with a text that said "I'm on the next flight out" I called her, in TEARS and told her "I just wanted you to call me!!!" But she knew me so well that she knew if that's what I truly needed I would have said "call me when you wake up" but because of the way I worded it, she knew I genuinely needed her presence. You are so blessed to have that type of friend in her. Hold her close. I miss mine every single day.

I was in school, local and regional theater groups most of my early life. None of us had any money so when someone in our company got married so we used our local theater to hold the ceremony. We all came together and did whatever was needed to make the day special. We made all the food, the wedding cake, flowers, photographs etc. We dug into the costume departments vault for clothes and each wedding was themed. We had pirate weddings, prison weddings, West Side Story wedding and "free for all" weddings where people dressed as their favorite character. We took 90% of tradition and BS out of the wedding and just had a great day.

This is honestly perfection in my eyes. To me, the perfect wedding has ZERO to do with the money spent, the clothes worn, the hair, or make up. If that is taking priority over who is waiting down the aisle for me, I don't want it. As long as the groom doesn't change, nothing else would matter to me. My life long commitment is to the man patient enough to put up with me and all my mess, not the center pieces and color scheme.

An acquaintance had her wedding, I of course didn't know her well enough to be invited, but she had very few female friends. So two thirds of her Bridesmaids were men. The men all decided to go to a drag venue and they managed to get the performers to lend them wigs, dresses, shoes and do their make-up for them. It looked like Pricilla: Queen of the Desert. I saw the photo's and it was hilarious.

I've been a bridesmaid a few times but only once was I a 'stand-in' bridesmaid. My good friend was planning a small wedding with her sisters as her MOH and bridesmaids. The bridesmaid dresses were being handmade by the sisters, two of the sisters loved it and one didn't, she wanted it to be tailored to her taste and said if it wasn't changed, she was out. My friend asked if I would replace her sister as a bridesmaid, of course I said yes. The dress was stunning, fit me like a glove and everything went off smoothly. The sister who didn't like the dress, came up to me and said "if I knew the dress was going to look like that, you wouldn't be here." I told her "I'd still be here, my friends are important to me and I wouldn't let them down, especially not because of something petty like what you did. Thanks btw, I love the dress".

My now-hubby got to be a stand-in best man....he was told so at the morning of the wedding because the intended stand-in woke up with some eye issues (couldn't Open his eye and had to go to the Er) and the orinigal best man's mum died shortly before the wedding so he stepped down because he was in no emotional state to Party. Poor bride. It really felt like a whole lot of Stuff went wrong in her day :(

@@dodgyyoutuber9560 There wasn't a dress (yet) to try on. Like I said in my original comment, two of the brides sisters were making the bridesmaid's dresses. The other sister just saw a hand drawn picture of the dress and the fabric it was going to be made from and she didn't like it.

When my best friend got married it was a destination wedding and I live paycheck to paycheck her and her husband both told me not to worry about any of the costs except for paying the alterations for the dress that they already bought so everyone had to pay $300 a person to stay at the house overnight for the wedding except me her husband straight up said don’t worry about Christina all that matters is that she’s there

When my brother and his fiance married in 2004, his fiance asked me to be a bridesmaid but she did say I'd need to buy my own dress as money was tight and I would've been the only adult bridesmaid (they'd already been together 12 years and we were very close). I was thrilled to be asked but I had to politely say no as I had a young son and i was not working. We both were completely understanding of each other and it wasn't a problem. I still went out dress shopping with her for the bridal gown and the dresses for the young bridesmaids, and helped with everything she needed. It was a beautiful wedding and just being there to help out made us both, and my brother, very happy x

when my best friend got married, we worked out the dates together so I could be there. She just gave us a color for the dress and let us spend what we could. My husband and I had to fly half way across the world so they let us stay at their house, paid for groceries and the rehearsal dinner for us to help off set the cost of us flying out to be there. I was a bridesmaid (not maid of honor because I could not help plan anything). everyone helped out by driving us to places we needed to be at and what not so we didn't have to rent a car. It was so sweet how everyone in the wedding party tried to make it easier for us. Our plane tickets were over $1000.

My husband and I got married 15 years ago and we were paying for most of it ourselves so it was a very small, inexpensive wedding. I have 2 younger siblings (7 & 8 years younger than me) that I wanted to be a part of the wedding but knew they wouldn't be able to afford to buy a dress or rent a tux as they were only 15 & 14 years old at the time, and I didn't want my parents to have to pay for them as they had already been very kind with paying for part of the wedding. So I made my sister my MOH and she wore her beautiful dress she had bought for semi-formal at school that fit with our colours and I based my bridesmaids dresses off of something similar yet different so she could stand out and not have to pay anything for her dress or shoes, and our tux rental place had a special where, if you rent 4 tuxs, you get the 5th rental free, so we paid for my husbands rental and gave the free one to my brother as he was walking me down the aisle. We also used my old flower girl dress, from when I was around 5 years old & my mom married my other dad, for our 4 year old daughter to wear down the aisle as our flower girl (or Princess as she made everyone call her that day 😂🥰). The other bridesmaids ended up needing to pay for their dresses ($75, and I’ve seen them each wear them since then, which was one of my goals when looking for a dress for them), whatever black shoes they wanted, and their hair & makeup, and my sister/MOH just needed to pay for her hair and makeup. My mom was grateful we didn’t pile on extra costs to her like we could have for both of my siblings, both of them were happy with what they were wearing, and I was incredibly happy and thankful that they were a part of my special day and that they wanted to be a part of it ❤️

Reading all these stories about bridesmaids who couldn't afford their expenses for the wedding (dresses, venue seating, etc) makes me even more grateful for my sister. I was about 14-15 I think when my second older sister had her wedding and since she knew I had no money and our parents were in a tight spot at the time, she covered my bridesmaid dress and my seat at the venue for her wedding. Never even said anything other than "Don't worry about it". It was a beautiful day and I'm still so grateful she did that so I could be involved ❤

My moms 2nd wedding, my aunt was getting ready and the hair stylist put little amber colored flower pins in her hair. She was upset. So, she replaced them with basic Bobby pins. She then put the flower pins in my hair and I loved them. She did my makeup and, the makeup under my eyes was so light. But, the lady said my under eyes were really dark at the time. She asked if I was ok I said yeah I was crying cause I wish my grandma was there. The lady doing the hair did a shot with me. I loved her.

My best friend is Canadian, I’m British. We met online and instantly clicked, fast forward a few years and she asked me to be maid of honour at her wedding… in Canada. I helped organise the wedding from the other side of the ocean, bought my own dress and generally did everything she needed without any drama. She paid half my flight, I stayed at her home and made sure that everything she needed was done. Myself, the other bridesmaid (who was American) the best man, bride and groom all stayed up till four in the morning on the day of the wedding finishing favours and we did it with smiles and booze. I spent most of the actual wedding running around, getting her everything she needed and making her happy (barely having time to eat or drink until the early hours of the following morning) as well as making an impromptu MOH speech but I had the best time ever, the wedding was beautiful, the reception so much fun and was everything my bestie wanted. That’s what being a MOH/bridesmaid is all about… you show up, in every possible way, because that’s what friends do. These horrible people in the video are just not worth the effort… and it’s a shame it took a wedding day for some to realise this.

I got asked to be MoH as a backup choice because the bride fell out with her first choice. I couldn’t do it from hundreds of miles away and told her so, and basically got the silent treatment and any interaction since then has been strained and full of attitude on her part. We were there for each other for some seriously dark stuff, but my honesty and distance made me a bad friend in the end. That’s okay. Some people are only meant to be around for a season.

We had a groomsmen that was already committed to another wedding the same summer as our wedding. He told us he didn't think he could afford the tux rental twice. My partner and I were both in graduate school when we got married. We couldn't afford to cover the entire tux rental for him due to budget, but I crunched some numbers and said "offer to pay for half, if it's still too much for him then say we understand and of course he's still welcome as a guest." He accepted our offer, and we were happy to have him in the wedding.

I have two very close friends. Both got married the same year within 4 months of each other, and the same year I had my daughter, and surgery to remove a tumor. I was a bridesmaid for both and was strapped for cash, but spent money I didn't have just to be in both of their weddings. I bought two bridesmaids dresses, two different kinds of custom shoes, paid my part for the bachelorette trips I couldn't attend, hair and make up. I couldn't and wouldn't miss their special days for anyrhing in the world, and even though it was hard I feel so blessed and honored they both wanted me there with them, and allowed my infant daughter to attend 💜 she was only 2 months old at one, and 6 months at the other, and the second wedding was just days after my surgery to remove my tumor. Soon both will be in my wedding and I couldn't be happier.

I did think it was strange that most of the bridesmaids left for financial reasons. Usually bridesmaids are aware of the costs when they agree to join. I'm really grooving on the bridesmaids coming to the rescue. Standing up for the sisterhood. The bride seemed to only have chosen marginal friends (chaotic lives or no money?) but it was GOLDEN to see all those women having her back and stepping up. I remember when all my friends were broke (as I was at the time) and yeah it's a limiting reality. My first wedding was SO on the cheap... my wedding dress (tea length Mexican crinkled cotton matching skirt/blouse) cost $38 off the rack at Montgomery Ward and we rented a small party room in our condo building for $25. Friends donated invitation printing, flowers, stamps for the invites, etc AS THEIR GIFTS. My mom bought the booze (her specialty area) and my nephew bartended. My inlaws brought their stereo and their extensive music collection, and popped for the catering. I called two friends, told them to hit their closets and find any solid color tea length dress that they felt like a knockout in, and call me with the color so I could get their flowers to match. 50 souls invited, about 40 came and a good time was had by all. You DO NOT NEED to spend a king's ransom to have a great wedding. (The choice of HUSBAND, however, went up for serious speculation shortly afterward, but that's a whole nother story).

I was a bridesmaid when I was 7 months pregnant. I flew from Texas to Illinois to be there. I puked a few times before the ceremony, but I still was there for every photo. I danced out on the aisle. My cousin (actually step cousin her half sister is my actual cousin) messaged me a week ago because one of her original girls was ghosting her. I stepped in 7 days before the wedding tried to order a dress off Amazon. None would ship in time so I sewed my own dress in 3 days. One of my good friends since high school got married years ago and I lived in Miami while she was still in NYC. I had to go to a specific boutique to get the bridesmaid dress she wanted and it wasnt cheap but I happily did it for her. I was honored to be her bridesmaid. I had a similar story to the girl whose bridesmaids dropped out. One friend had a huge legitimate reason as she lives in Ireland and their Covid protocols didn’t allow her to make it. She also let me know waaay ahead of time so I could get another friend on board. However….One of my girls…a person who I’ve been friends with since MIDDLE SCHOOL messaged me a WEEK before the wedding with a text saying: “I was afraid to tell you earlier because I’m afraid of confrontation, but I’m not going to be in your wedding due to deeply personal reasons”. That was it. Mind you, I’m a ppl pleaser so I’m the LEAST confrontational. We’ve also closely known each other for over a decade. I asked what was going on but she refused to tell me, so I told her I’m here to support her however, and if she decides to talk about it later, I’m here for her. She got SO defensive and blamed me for being unsupportive and that it wasn’t her problem. Another friend did end up bailing me out, and was the same size as this flaker. I texted flaker asking if she was cool to sell her bridesmaid dress to my friend since they are the same size, and she agreed. SHOCKER: She was insanely difficult to deal with in order to get the dress to my friend. I lost it…I spoke my mind to this flakey mcflaker and said the LEAST you can do is be cooperative about getting the dress to my friend who actually seems to give a poop!

I was a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding. It as a $10k wedding that the bride and groom paid themselves. The bridesmaids and groomsmen had some expenses (outfit, shoes, hair and makeup if you're a bridesmaid) and the only registry type gift was activities for their honeymoon in Jamaca that people could contribute towards which people did. I paid a little over $300 for everything; the dress was $200 from David's bridal but it's a black cocktail style dress that was a justifiable purchase because I've worn it multiple times since to all different events, I paid $80 for the matching heels that I also still have and wear and $30 for phenomenal hair and makeup. My sister and her husband did divorce but I'm not angry about having to spend what I did because I was there for my sister like she was for me growing up and again, I have gotten lots of uses out of what cost me the most.

We all did our own/each others hair and makeup, I told my friends a dress color and length and they got what fit them best, we all stayed in a hotel together the night before and played games for a bachelorette since they all lived so far away. Everyone paid $50 for the hotel suite and bought their own dress and shoes. (But the price of that was up to them.) Wedding and honeymoon combined for my husband and I was less than $5k. I don’t understand people who force bridesmaids and groomsmen to shell out a whole paycheck on someone else’s wedding. We have a fantastic time and beautiful wedding!

My sister was a little bit of a bridezilla about my hair (it was a pastel pink at the time) but we managed to compromise and she helped me get to a really really nice platinum blonde so I could dye my hair pink again after the wedding, she was super cool about my dress though and told me if I wanted to I could get a black dress. I was terribly thin at the time, recovering from an ED and wouldn’t you know it, the only dress that had fit me was black, but with pink floral embroidery on the bodice that matched the other bridesmaids, and gold on it too which matched everything else. It fit perfectly with the wedding, and allowed me to stand out the way my sister wanted as her MOH and her sister. Compromise gets you pretty far when it comes to weddings yall.

I was a bridesmaid (a few times) and the bride…well. We went to highschool together (she was a year ahead) and also had a few college classes together, talked online and went on a trip together. She asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding. I agreed. She insisted we have the same everything (all the same jewelry, shoes, hair and makeup, and dress. Same color nails, which we painted at her house the morning of, where the wedding was held.) and we paid for all our own everything, even the expensive dress. I went above and beyond, despite not being her MOH, volunteering to help make centerpieces and guest favors, volunteering to come to her home and set up, and even driving an hour away the night before to set up the reception hall. We had the wedding, in November, outside. We wore strapless dresses and were so cold that a few of the elderly women pitied us during photos at the end and got us blankets because we were shivering. I don’t think my friend liked that we were covering our dresses, but we had taken the main photos and were just greeting/thanking people. We had the reception, and I stayed to help after. After the wedding, my “friend” ghosted me. The one time I was able to speak to her she mentioned she was just SO busy with married life she didn’t have time to talk. It’s been several years and we haven’t talked since. I’ve spent a lot of time wondering if I did something wrong…because I asked for donuts the morning of the wedding (which she said there were going to be but didn’t get, so we were expected to just be hungry until the reception)? Or maybe because I almost dropped the box of glass centerpieces (which she freaked out on me for, but someone had decided to just fold the bottom of the box together and not tape it, she’s lucky I managed to catch them)? The only other thing I can think of is one of the groomsmen asked me out and I initially said yes, but cancelled a week later, due to my anxiety. I’ve not been on a date and I was freaking out, so I had to cancel. None of these things warrant her ghosting me in my opinion, especially not with how much I volunteered to help out multiple days, but maybe I’m wrong?

My best friend from high school asked me to be a bridesmaid. I was in a seriously stressful situation and did not respond to the request in the manner she wanted me to for several reasons. I was moving across the country and going to school amidst a major upheaval period in my life. The timing of her wedding made it so that the only thing I could possibly do is be there the day of, but even that was questionable. I did say I would do it. I later received a letter from my friend telling me she would find someone else to do it (this was in the ‘90’s.) I was hurt, but it also made sense to me. When the wedding weekend arrived, I drove straight through from Seattle to St. Louis with nothing to wear to the wedding. I managed to take a nap, get up and go buy a dress and make it to the wedding on time. I did not know up until a week before if I would make it in time. But I did. All’s well that ends well. We are still the best of friends.

As the bride, have a glass of champagne with your girls while you’re getting ready, and 1 at the reception. Stay hydrated and drink water until you leave reception with new husband/wife. There’s nothing more embarrassing than a drunk bride or bridesmaids. Unless, of course, you’re going for the hard party vibe at your reception (nothing wrong with that) in which case, party on! I have been in many, many, many weddings! So this advice is one of my biggest take aways from a handful of those. 🤣 Love you, Charlotte! You’re so damn awesome!

I did wear a cream lace dress at my son and daughter-in-laws wedding. Let me explain (I can hear you saying "Go on ..." It was a cosplay themed wedding . My son was Bruce Wayne, my DIL was Lydia from Beetlejuice, in the red wedding gown, best man was Dead Pool, maid of honor was Scoops Ahoy Robin from Stranger Things. Bride's mom was Cruella DeVille, and so I talked to my DIL and asked her if it was ok if I donned a purple wig, unicorn headband, cream dress with a turquoise Cutiemark, and went as Rarity from My Little Pony, or if should I choose something else. She loved it and said to wear anything EXCEPT red lace because she was wearing red lace. It was a fun wedding! We had 2 sets of Gomez and Morticias, a Scooby and Velma, various anime characters, a Medusa, and most of the guests were in some sort of cosplay. That said, it is only ok to wear white or cream to a wedding IF the bride says so.

One of the waitresses asked me if I would be a bridesmaid for her upcoming wedding for a very special reason. She had a brother with high functioning autism and none of her cousin bridesmaids would partner with him and he so wanted to be in his sister’s wedding. I said yes and bought the floor length, red lace dress and did my own hair and makeup. I knew the groom as he would come out clubbing, but didn’t meet her family until the shower and rehearsal. Turned out that this was a Polish family and there was a lot of polka dancing at the wedding. It’s a simple dance but very vigorous and her bother loved it and wanted to dance everyone, so we did! The bride and her family were very grateful. The whole thing was heartwarming. But I never wore that red gown again…

The ones with ALL the braidmaids dropping off, it makes me wonder, what was the real reason behind that.. I guess we've seen to many bridezillas videos...
