My brother became a super entitled parent when it came to babysitting, and also expected people to just do it for free. My mom would drive an hour, early in the morning, and stay all day with their toddler, for free. Then, my brother would come home and have the audacity to get mad because she wanted to leave right away (another hour drive home). He would throw a fit about how he worked all day and needs a break and she needs to stay at least half an hour after he gets home so he can "relax". If she was ever late, he'd also have a tantrum. It got to the point where my mom showed up one day and he had another fit about something, and she just left. Told him to find someone else to watch his kid. He had to take the day off. Eventually, he and his wife had to alter their work schedules, so one works nights and the other days, and they never ever get a break as they swap working and childcare. Bummer for them calling mom's bluff.

@BreezyStreamy3 жыл бұрын
This exactly! TLDR I was working with someone who was pregnant a few months before I was, and she demanded that everyone tailor to her. She wanted the air on all the time in the spring where our clients would be shivering at night and she would berate me telling me to leave it on, to put on a coat if I was cold, and to give the clients some more blankets for me to wash in the morning at the end of my shift for her to bitch about folding later at her shift start. Once I lost my pregnancy and she knew what happened, she stopped talking to me because I was bringing negativity into her pregnancy. During my second to last shift there, I had a migraine and forgot to turn back on the air (for the empty house because she hated walking into a hot and stuffy house for her shift start) and she proceeded with cussing me out through a message about how I don't care about anyone else and how I needed to listen to her about the air (which, if it was an older system that would have gotten messed up from turning it on/off that would be one thing, but it was a new system.) I was like, "Dude, my last night is tonight and you don't have to worry about me forgetting the air when all you have to do is just turn it on and wait an hour for it to get cool." I came in (which it was my birthday) and she just got up and walked out without talking to me. Blocked me on social media some months later once I commented in a post about her about how she talks shit about anyone and everyone including her family, would make fun of people, and just was a horrible coworker.

These stories remind me of the time about 30 years ago when my brother and his wife wanted to go on a week long trip. He asked me if I would take care of their 3 year old daughter for that week. My brother said he was going to give me a great deal. Since I would be paying for my air fare to fly across the country, he would only charge me $300 to take care of his daughter. Yep, that’s right, he was going to charge me for the privilege of watching his daughter. You see, I would be staying in their home, using their car and probably even swim in their pool, so only playing $300 for the privilege was quite the deal. Now to my thinking, if I’m flying to their location and taking care of their daughter, I would need to stay in their home and use their car and shouldn’t have to pay for the privilege. He didn’t agree. Needless to say I turned this opportunity down.

I do wonder how legally sound her dad leaving her the house was. Did her mum not have part ownership of the house? @@thoriated Actually, in any state, once a person has established residency in a home (i.e. receives mail there, changes the address information on their state issued ID, or even if the homeowner at one time said, where others heard it, Yeah, you can stay here) they must be legally evicted. If the unwanted resident has no written lease it's a bit easier, but still has to go through the courts. The absolute easiest way is to call the cops every time they do something threatening or illegal, establish a pattern of behavior that "makes you feel unsafe", then request a restraining order. Have the restraining order served by a law enforcement officer, who will then escort them off the property and advise them that they cannot return while the order is in effect. Once they're no longer in the house, it's a lot easier to keep them out than it is to try to dig out someone who is fully entrenched. Or, not entirely legal but still fun, send them all on a spa day/weekend holiday and, while they're gone, move their stuff out onto the side of the road and change the locks. #notlegaladvice

I used to try to help but now it’s just a hell no, I’m busy. I had one of my best friend offer to pay me $30/day to watch her newborn. This involved picking him up and taking him home. Minimum 10 hours per day, rotating schedule. She still owes me because she felt like it was ok to spend money on stupid stuff instead of paying me. We are no longer friends. The $30 barely covered gas

As a parent I have come across some entitled lazy ass teachers. And most kids get excited to go shopping period, doesn't really matter where if they're getting something, especially the younger they are. Half of y'all don't even understand the new shit you are teaching as you are learning it along with your students and the other half are having issues understanding and being able to explain the new grading system y'all are using now. There is only a small percentage of teachers that actually do their jobs and with the dedication perceived in the media. Remote learning was literally phoning is school so y'all could be paid for the perception of doing work....I have 1 in each school level (high, middle and elementary) they all feel as if the last 2 years were just wasted time and they didn't actually learn anything. Y'all yourselves need to calm down, the effort, energy and actually learning going on in school has been declining rapidly over the last 10 years and y'all just blame the kids and parents. Where there are entitled parents and kids who expect something from nothing, but most agree and support their teachers but find nothing but disappointment and a lack of actual substance from education.

But after classes get over, I make it a point to read whatever was taught again! And I feel like I've learnt more than I had. The purposefully eating someone else's food thing is actually a power move meant to assert dominance. My brother tried that crap all the time when we were kids. Until I started getting back at him, anyway. Anytime he brings up an argument with me now I remind him of the time he ate my birthday cake when I was sick one year. Usually shuts him up. It might sound petty, but food theft is often just an example of a larger pattern of bullying behavior. I'm not surprised that it was the thing that made OP snap. SIL could have picked up a phone and ordered something to eat or actually gone out and gotten her own dinner. Going through the effort of searching for and taking OP's food was by no means the only or even easier option. She had to have WAITED for OP to leave that dinner unattended to swoop in and eat that much in that amount of time.
@bluegypsydoll9 ай бұрын
food theft is not always a form of bullying. While it can be, it isn’t always. Growing up in a home where food is scarce is also why some kids take and hide food. It has nothing to do with bully but more likely survival. Your brother was just being mean haha

It may not be a 50/50 trade but I wouldn’t change it for a thing. I love getting to be involved in these young years of my niece’s development; watching her first sit up, crawl, walk, and now talk. Not thinking anything bad, my wife started being nice to this neighbor only to find out later that the neighbor wanted free baby sitting. She would just let her kids knock on our door and enter and stay for hours without our permission or without even talking to us. She is unemployed and spends her time going out and exercising. Finally my wife had enough after her kids came to our house unannounced. My wife storm out and talk to the neighbor telling her to get her kids out of our house. After that, my wife blocked her number from our phone and refused to talk to her. We later found out she has been doing that to the other neighbors she can fool. 😂😂😂Why have kids if you can’t take care of them??!!🤣

I can definitely relate the the house story. It’s been a decade ago so it doesn’t bother me as much anymore because I found the silver lining for my experience. When my husband and I were newlyweds, we lived with his parents due to our culture. and it worked out for the better because my husband had lost his job a few months after our wedding. I was getting paid $11/hr and was a PT college student. He was struggling to find a decent job because the job market wasn’t good in 2010. We help pay $200 rent. Considering their mortgage was within $700-$800. I figured we pitched in a fair amount, because his older brother and wife was paying for the utilities. Mind you, we plan to move out once he finds a job and save enough for down payment. Every month comes by and they keep having excuses for needing more money. I’ve given in a couple of times, but I had enough. We moved out in 1.5 years. Then came the jealous judgements from all the family members, “Watch them fail and move back”. Now, I’m happy that I heard it back then, because it motivated me to work even harder to prove them wrong. Low income means tight budget. Even when lived on our own, they still asked for money. Mind you, they make more than us. We took them in twice and didn’t ask for rent. Only asked for $200 one time because our utility bills we’re getting expensive. To make this shorter, they eventually moved out after I kept encouraging them to get pre approved for a loan and actually show them houses that were on sale. Then, they started saying that we were greedy. Blah blah blah. It hurt a lot a the time and I held it in for longer than I should. We were in our early 20s. Just because we couldn’t afford to pitch in when they asked for money or can’t afford to take them out to eat or offer to pay for some things for them, we were considered bad people. I wasn’t fully innocent either. I should’ve been better at communicating and consider some small things, but overall, I’ve learned to live truly to myself. It’s still a struggle, but it doesn’t affect me as much as I used to. Moral of the story, there are shitty people out there and sometimes they hit you hard on your blind spot, but don’t let that stop you for being who you want to be. Learn from it. You’re never a bad person as long as you had good intentions. Boundaries is key. If you read this far, well thank you.

Snake says "You knew I was a snake when you picked me up". I get really angry when I keep doing nice things yet get bitten in return. Those toxic people can keep their toxins, their venom, away from me because I am not getting bitten anymore. Ppl who truly need help, and animals of course (dogs and cats mostly, no snakes lol) I will do the right thing, but the snakes can slither away elsewhere.

I potty trained both of them because their halfassed parents couldn’t be bothered to do it. I broke both of them from their bottles, taught them their alphabet, numbers, beginning sight words, 911, how to do simple chores. I took them to church, fed them healthy food, and even had to take them in for their ped visit one time (as a 17 year old!). I had to miss starring in a high school play because those kids had no one else to take care of them. Looking back, those people got a helluva deal paying me that little. When I told them I was switching high schools and getting a job in the field I wanted to study in college so I wouldn’t be available ALL THE TIME to watch the kids, they cut me off from the kids entirely. That was so painful and the loss really affected me terribly. People suck.

Parents would come everyday and pick up meals for their kids or the kids would walk to the school. We had one parent that came and always made a comment about something. She would be like chicken again, really? Or why is it a turkey sandwich? This woman became pretty rude as the days went on and even at one point she said that we owe it to her to make these meals for her kids. We were like umm the meals are free for any kids that need it and we don't owe you shit. We were there for all the children and especially the children that needed the meals but this mom thought we should cater to her requests that we owed her these meals. It was sad to see a parent act the way she did. But all the other kind parents that came made up for it because we knew those parents truly needed these meals for their children and at the end of the day all that mattered to us was that the kids that needed meals got them.

I remember being 12-13 and babysitting toddlers or infants for like $20/day and it wasn't until I was older that I realized that some parents just do not value their own children. Once, a kid who was, if I'm remembering right, about 5-7 years old kicked a huge hole in his parents' wall and told his mom that it was from me pushing him down the stairs. The 90's was wild.

Which is why you convince your child its way "cooler" to have a small party in the back garden with a projector and bouncy castle lol! I'm not sure how many more years I can pull this off but adding a bubble machine and bunting to the bouncy castle last time squeezed one more year out! Haha

During lockdown here in Melbourne everyone all of a sudden wanted a dog. There's a shelter that I follow on Facebook who would post available dogs and the first person to call/message would be given the first appointment and so on until they found the right home. People were getting SO aggressive and entitled, complaining about how they couldn't get through on the phone to enquire about a dog. "I tried to ring, but I couldn't get through! And now this dog's gone and I wanted him! Not fair!" The shelter would respond if they could (it was literally two volunteers vetting the calls while looking after the dogs/cats) and remind them that there were hundreds of other people calling at the same time and they were being absolutely bombarded with calls. There was also the odd parent going "I promised my daughter she could have this puppy, and now you're saying NO APPOINTMENTS AVAIBLE?! You just made my daughter cry and ruined her day! How dare you! You should be ashamed of yourselves!"' Dude. You were the one who promised your daughter this dog, not the kennel attendant. People suck.

As a parent, I do not claim these "parents" If you can't afford proper childcare, birthday parties, rent/mortgage etc. DON'T HAVE KIDS! If you want to be a parent understand that you will be responsible for the care of that child, that whole "it takes a village to raise a child" saying doesn't mean you are entitled to a village. Furthermore being a parent with small children doesn't mean you get preferential treatment at themeparks, restaurants etc. You still have to wait your turn. 🙄 And then people wonder why so many kids behave badly, look at the terrible parents. Monkey see monkey do.

@Alexandria Lukes Firstly, congratulations on becoming an RN - that's a great achievement. I don't think OP's comment, however, was directed at parents like you who couldn't have anticipated something happening like that; I think the comment was aimed more at parents who have children not realizing what a responsibility parenthood is, financial or otherwise, going into it. A lot of people have kids because it's what they think they're supposed to do, without recognizing that's a whole ass person they're raising (my parents are two such examples of individuals who should have never had children). I don't think it was meant as a dig to parents who have had to make the best of bad circumstances as you've had to do. Just my take on it though.
@ninzyroo48073 жыл бұрын
@Alexandria Lukes My post wasn't directed at people who have children and then suffer some unfortunate event that causes financial struggle. And the need for assistance be it government or private is nothing to be ashamed of. What my post was meant to target is people who think they deserve friends and family to chip in money just because the parent can't afford expensive birthdays etc. And I am no stranger to hardship, financial and otherwise. I won't get into details because your all strangers, but suffice to say there were plenty of times when the dollar tree saved dinner, birthdays and holidays. But I never felt entitled to free services or expensive donations from other people.

My mum worked in an all boys secondary school (that would be a middle school in North America) and she had to deal with a parent who couldn’t be bothered to send her son with a packed lunch so my mum bought the kid a meal deal (it is school policy to not allow children who are overdraft to buy food at the cafeteria, make with that what you will), a parent wanted taxis booked by the school so their son could be taken to and from school everyday and a parent wanted their son’s uniform to be fully funded by the school (they’re not an impoverished family). Just as an example, at home my sister and I were allowed to sit in what ever way comfortable at the breakfast table. I always sit on one leg and bend my other knee to put my foot on the chair. My grandma hated that A LOT and always told me how that's bad manors. Thing is, when I was a child we'd visit her for 6 weeks straight as she's in another country. So for 6 weeks we were not allowed to leave our room from 8pm - 7am (especially not to pee), were not allowed to sit comfortably or cut of the fat from meat when eating it. At home, all this was not a problem. My mother even encouraged us to do all that. But not once did she speak up to her mother. Not even when my 14 year old self experimented with make up, ended up with a red shade of lipstick on her mouth and was called a prostitute. Ironically, I am 24 now and still have issues standing up to my mother, too. But since I had a wonderful little girl in April I've made an extreme effort to set boundaries from the get go.
