Actually, I normally don't think it funny seeing people fall because they might've hurt themselves. Once I saw a girl falling on her butt on the stairs in a mall. My first reaction was omg, is she ok? But the next thing she did was shoot back up and look around very embarrassedly while saying to her friend: "ok, good. No one saw that. That didn't happen". I burst out laughing because her reaction was hilarious. She hadn't seen me, or maybe she thought I didn't see her fall because I wasn't laughing at first? But when she heard me laughing she giggled embarrassedly, grabbed her friend and ran away from the scene.

One time I bought some high heels that were a bit too high, and it had been a few years since I’d worn heels. I was feeling old and fat. I was out to lunch with my son, who was about 23 at the time. We’re in the outdoor seating area of the restaurant when I get up to walk to bathroom. Halfway across the room, my shoe snagged on the rug and I did a classic face plant in front of everyone. I knew I looked ridiculous in the shoes already, so falling was just additional humiliation. And don’t think for a second that my was sweet about it! 🤣😂

I worked with girl as a teen who dropped something in the fryer at Hardee's and she reached right in to grab it. Third degree burns immediately. Not the worst injury I ever saw on a job, but it was the only one where someone didn't stop to think, just reacted and injured themselves in the process. Nobody knew what she dropped because she was in too much shock to say. After she left in the ambulance we started the process to clean that fryer. In the bottom we found a ring. Turned out it was her mother's and she wore it without permission.😳

Aren't you supposed to remove jewelry and wear gloves while preparing food? My bestie applied to be a school cafeteria worker two yrs ago, unfortunately she was pregnant and had severe hg and couldn't take the job, but the requirements were: no jewelry anywhere on the body, I believe no makeup, hair tied back and in a hair net, plus gloves and an apron. It's crazy to think about how lax fast food sanitation sometimes is compared to that. Kids eat at both unless you're a parent that doesn't allow fast food, but that's pretty rare. I went into Wendy's for lunch a couple years back, takeout, and I was seriously grossed out that the kid wrapping and bagging my food took his phone out of his pocket and texted while still wearing the gloves he then used on my food. If you're not aware, most phone screens are dirtier than your average toilet, or the average face, which are dirtier than the toilets, seriously. It's because most people never clean their phones, use them while on the toilet, and the sit against the face while calls are made. I gave him the, "Are you freaking serious?" look, but just got a blank look back. Food was fine, but I should have called out and told him to change gloves before touching my food. 🤢

That's horrifying! We'd all like to believe that we would never do anything "stupid" like that, but in her case her emotions overpowered common sense. That can happen to almost anyone. I used to work at a printing company. One day while I was processing film in the darkroom, I heard one of my coworkers yell in pain. The large hydraulic paper cutter he was operating was right outside the darkroom, so I got to him first. The paper cutter was supposed to have two switches that had to be pushed at the same time as a safety measure to keep both hands away from the blade and clamp. The boss decided it was slowing our work down, so he disabled one of the switches to "increase productivity". My coworker was cutting stacks of business cards when the stack suddenly shifted so he tried to straighten it with his thumb just as the blade came down, severing his thumb. I grabbed a towel, tried putting compression to his hand while pushing him to the front office and yelling "Call 911!" The boss drove him to the hospital instead of calling an ambulance. Big mistake, because paramedics would have known to get his thumb out of the cutter, ice it down, and bring it to the hospital to reattach. We were too shocked to think about it. Another employee started his shift at noon, and he went to use the paper cutter... second time that day I heard a coworker scream! We hadn't had time to tell him about the accident, so he wasn't expecting to see a severed thumb and a lot of blood when he raised the clamp and blade. The injured coworker tried to sue, since the accident wouldn't have happened if boss hadn't disabled the safety mechanism, so he lost his thumb because boss was too cheap to call an ambulance. Boss did, however, make sure that the employee got a drug test at the hospital. He had smoked a little cannabis that morning before work. The court unfairly ruled against my coworker, blaming him for the accident because he was "using illicit drugs". If he'd had a better lawyer, he would have probably OWNED that print shop! I would have testified on his behalf.

My first international trip was London 1999. My girlfriend and and were walking down the stairs to the train and she was wearing platform sandals. She got tripped up and literally somersaulted down the flight of stairs to the first landing. I was horrified because it looked really painful. After she stopped rolling, she jumped up and ran up the stairs around the corner. I followed and wide-eyed, I'm like, "Oh my god, are you okay?" while trying not to laugh. All she said was "Did anybody see me?!" I died laughing. She was more concerned about her reputation in front of strangers than having injuries. She even broke her purse strap. Hilarious. Oh, I'll never forget. Good times.

Story time: So I worked at Starbucks for six years, and I both saw, and experienced my fair share of falls. Two falls I had actually resulted in worker’s comp, but those are different stories, and aren’t funny. Anyway this one time I didn’t fall, but I did almost drop a cup. Now the cup was plastic so I could have just gotten a new cup for the drink, but I was more impressed with myself that I actually managed to save it. I had grabbed it with one hand, but I was going too fast so it slipped out of my right hand. My left hand came underneath to catch it, but instead just knocked it into the air, and then I grabbed it with both hands. I looked around and said, “did anyone see that? Because I will not be doing that again,” like Jack Sparrow. A customer was sitting at our bar and told me, “I saw it,” and I replied, “well I’m glad that someone did.” *Edit because I was typing too fast and used the wrong word. For me it was when I made a lot of cupcakes and a school project I had to carry around school. I wore a skirt to school and wanted to look good… however I failed to realize that wind is a thing, and it just so happened to be the windiest day at school. I kept flashing people left in right in that high school. A group of girls laughed and I asked them for help and they all stared at me like I was a ghost. Out of nowhere a friend of mine came to rescue with their long sleeved hoodie and wrapped it around my dumb butts skirt. I was forever thankful for her and I have managed to allow myself to think this was all a dream that day in school. It was not a dream. But I’m also thankful those girls laughing didn’t take photos with cell phones and didn’t proceed to bully me just that I caught them so off guard when I asked them for help, that’s what I remember most about that situation. And I walked around school with those cupcakes and a hoodie saving myself from uber embarrassment. I’m not sure how I managed to stay aloof and didn’t die of embarrassment but telling myself it was a dream really worked out. Lol

They didn't even let me apologise to the kid's parents. Thank God head office moved me to a different job. In an old people's home, literally 5 minutes from my house. And my boss treats me so much better, she treats me like family. I love it there, I get so much support it's almost surreal. Yesterday, she even talked to the manager on my behalf to swap a colleague's rota, just so I could have someone to work with and not left on my own. Whenever I have seizures now, she sends me straight to the staff room to have a rest. If the company hadn't moved me there, I would have sued BIG TIME. *They'd called me in on my day off, they'd put me in an unit I'm not used to, the change in my routine was too much of a shock. And this, dear friends, is why you should put the pizza on a pan, instead of directly on the rack ✨ 🤣
@WigglesMother Жыл бұрын
Even if the packaging DOES say to put it directly on the rack. Or get yourself a pizza paddle, which is big enough to scoop the pizza off the rack without risking flipping it. And for the love of Pete, if you do have a pan, make sure to hold it securely when someone's about to put the pizza on it.

I was 16 and it was the 70s and I saved up for a pair of cork platform shoes. I picked them up at lunchtime as I was at my part time job. Mum warned me! Don’t buy them. I decided to put them on and do the rest of my shift. Coming down the flight of stairs from the lunchroom to the store, I fell forward and the momentum propelled me down, chin first where I landed in a heap at the bottom, dress up around my face. It was raining and all the people waiting for buses outside had congregated inside just near the stairs. Luckily no injuries other than shattered pride. Threw those shoes in the bin that day!

As someone who loves decorating for Halloween, I would have been so angry and heart-broken coming home to find that. Let alone if kids lived there. And what would he have done if there had been a person or animal around when he went off the rails. Not acceptable. Dude needs anger management and to pay for damages, and needs to lose that job.

He seemed to have a great sense of humor! In the 1980s I was friends with a sweet married couple who had matching Harley motorcycles they loved using for day trips. He unfortunately had a brain tumor, successfully removed, but it left him unable to ride because his balance was never the same and he lost sight in one eye. He sold his beautiful bike and was understandably sad about it. His wife had a surprise, though. She had a custom sidecar built for her bike, so they could continue riding together! The reveal was at his birthday party and there wasn't a dry eye amongst us. Especially the big tough-looking biker dudes.

The forklift one is not the operator's fault, it's the fault of whoever built the pallet. You're supposed to rotate cases each row so that they overlap, like stacking bricks. If there's not enough overlap you use a sheet of carboard between layers to stabilize the pallet. Plastic wrap was not enough to hold hundreds of pounds of small cases together.

Speaking of people falling and having others see you: To make a very long story short, years ago I fell down my icy front steps and shattered my hip. I was lying there upside down on my steps in a very visible way. My house was right on the street where neighborhood parents did "the school run", so MANY people witnessed this. Apparently, people a block away heard me screaming, so this became a very talked-about incident among people in about a 2- block radius. About 3 years after this, I was standing on my front lawn when a man I didn't know came off the sidewalk and walked up to me. "Hey", he said. "Are you the lady that fell and broke her hip?" 😬😬😬
