I had roommates when I was studying abroad. One of the female ones (didn't know which) kept using my extremely pricey conditioner. I asked all the females in the house who it was but everyone denied it. I knew it wasn't one of the guys most likely because of the amount of conditioner that disappeared each time. The guys all had extremely short hair. Anyway, I dyed my hair blue later, and since it wasn't permanent dye I mixed some in with my conditioner to use for when washing my hair and showering, to make the color last a bit longer. And well. Surprise surprise when one of the girls came out of the shower SCREAMING because her previously semi-blonde hair was now stained with a really, really weird blue/teal type color making her look absolutely awful. Never stole my conditioner again and it took her weeks to get rid of the dye completely and cost her a great deal. HA!

I totally would've done this. I had a roommate that used to blame me and my kid for stealing her chocolate. And when I told her I found her kid up in the middle of the night eating her candy, she refused to beleive me. A grown ass woman, over her 6 year old, who was dealing with her parents divorce. When my mom was younger, she had roommates who would always steal her food & say don't touch their food. She told them "don't touch my leftovers, I'm taking it to work for lunch" the next day. Her food and desert which would be packed in her work lunchbox would be missing a portion when she got ready to leave. Everyone would deny that they took her food. She made it clear for them to not touch. After a few days of this happening, she baked a chocolate cake with chocolate laxatives. She also locked the shared bathroom and waited. An hour after going to bed, she hears the culprits screaming to be let into the bathroom. Hahahaha they pooped themselves. She told then what she did & they never touched her food again.

In our college, each dorm had communal bathrooms. There were places in the bathroom to store your toiletries, and people wrote their room number on stuff to claim it. One year, a hilarious incident happened on our “brother floor”. One of the guys noticed that his Costco-sized bottle of Listerene kept slowly disappearing. It was obvious that someone else was using it. He wrote a note on the label to please stop using my Listerene. But the theft continued. After several weeks he hatched a plan. He tampered with the Listerene on the bathroom shelf, and opened another bottle for himself which he kept in his dorm room. Even after he stopped using it, the Listerene level in the bathroom continued to slowly drop. Since it was such a large bottle, it lasted almost the whole semester. When it was nearly gone, he wrote a sticky note and stuck it on the bottle: “To the theif: I peed in this bottle at the beginning of the semester. I hope you enjoyed swishing your mouth with my pee” 😂 Sweet, sweet justice.

Switching out the milk shouldn't have been a problem. Had the same thing with a coworker once, who kept stealing my lunch. I always brought left overs from the night before. Well I sorted that out by purposely bringing extremely spicy Balinese food one day. Yeah little mister lunch thief didn't like spicy food. Instead of owning up lunch thief boi decided that it'd be funny to contaminate my lunch with fish oil the following day, knowing full well that I am allergic to fish. I take a bite, it tastes funny, and a couple minutes later I can feel my uvula swelling up like a balloon. Another coworker took me to the ER and the boss went on to look at the CCTV footage together with the security guy. Not only did they find that lunch thief boi was stealing my food, but turns out he was stealing coffee, sugar, milk etc. from the office in general. And the day I got ill, he was the only one who'd been to the fridge after everyone got in for work. It was sus AF. The boss pressured him, he admitted to both stealing and contaminating my food. So the boss fired him on the spot and pressed charges for theft and possible assault. The DA later changed that assault charge to attempted murder, because it was premeditated and he knew full well that I would end up in hospital or worse. Guy got 6 months in prison for it. Which may not seem like much, but in those 6 months his wife left him, he lost custody of his kids, and because they lived in a rental property he was now also without a home. So yeah, permanent criminal record of the kind that will never let him pass any kind of background check, homeless, jobless, forced to pay alimony for children that he has no visitation rights with.

I did some gardening work for a colleague then she asked if I could install a water feature. I said I could and gave her the bill for the work. She refused to pay it because I had not done all of the work. I reminded her that I had done the work she had hired me for. She told me that the water feature had still to be put in place so the job wasn't done and I wasn't being paid. I called the company who had taken away tons of gravel and rocks to come back with it all. I got into the cab and dumped it all over her front lawn from where it had been taken. @@sageduff4747 No they didn't agree to install a water feature, the water feature was something that the colleague asked for AFTER the original agreement, OP did the work they were ORIGINALLY contracted for, so he was owed the money for that work. My brother's ex girlfriend (E) once told me a story about how her roommate kept stealing her drinks from the fridge. She was a biology major and she got fed up to the point where she started labelling her drinks scientifically. She numbered, dated, and coded them. Then E went to stay with my brother for an extended weekend and came back to several of them missing. She confronted her roommate about them, who denied it, saying E must have drank them before she left. Then E dropped the bomb. "They were for an experiment I was monitoring at home. I need you to be honest with me. Did you drink them?" The roommate denied it again, but turned pale and left the room quickly. Apparently she never stole any of her food or drinks after that. She did marry E's brother though, so she's unfortunately stuck with her thieving roommate for life.

So I hatched a plan, I left some whole milk open on my kitchen counter for a week. Then strained the contents into a new carton of milk (to remove the lumps). I left it in the work fridge and told everyone else to hide their milk. I didn't see what happened, but the milk stealing stopped.

Regarding the last video.....my brother and his wife were getting a new 3 and 2 seater sofa and asked if we wanted to buy the old one. It was leather so easier to keep clean and we needed a new suite so thought these sofas would do for the interim as they were much more comfortable than our own and I was expecting my 2nd child so needed the extra comfort. Anyway, he asked for a sum of money for it and i accepted it as a reasonable amount considering the age and bits of cosmetic damage caused by his cat. It was just temporary so didn't bother me. 2 weeks later he text me and tells me a colleague of his has offered double the money I had agreed to give him so could I up my offer? I was a bit taken aback but thought because hes my brother I didn't want to see him out of pocket so I told him to sell it to the other guy. It wasn't worth the money this guy was offering so he would be daft to refuse. He was quite insistent that he would rather sell to me if I would just match the other offer but I needed to buy baby bits so said to just sell to other guy. He seemed disappointed. Anyway, his wife text a while later and asked if I would reconsider matching the offer of the guy but I explained that I had just bought a baby carseat and nursery furniture so really couldn't justify spending that. She understood but again sounded disappointed. A few days later my brother texts saying he wants me to have the sofa and the originally agreed amount is acceptable. Do I think there was actually another offer?? No, I don't. Do I think it was a play to try to squeeze me for more money? Yes I do. My brother was the one who suggested the amount to begin with and I think his rather stingy wife told he should have tried for more before settling despite knowing it wasn't worth that. My sister often does things like this too. That, ladies and gents, is my family.

I was the only one who amounted to anything, totally by my hard work, the grace of God, and parents of my best friend in nursing school, who demonstrated what parents should do. They were so sweet and had me move in to their home to get away from my greedy parents when I was in school full time and working almost full time to pay rent at home. They refused to take a dime from me and I was able to go back to working part time until I graduated. The Bible verse that says Vengeance is Mine says the Lord comes to mind. I often put it in my food/smoothies following giving birth. 2 of my coworkers started gagging and trying to make themselves throw up 😁 my boss was laughing hysterically.

Had a co-worker who regularly stole my food and he throw away the containers afterwards, instead of putting them at least in the dishwasher.. So I didn't just have lunch, but my containers were gone, too. One day, I brought in some food, that wasn't quite fresh, but didn't smell that bad, that you could smell it through the container. It tasted awful. So my co-worker, who denied stealing my lunch, came in furiously asking me what's wrong with me. 😄

But she wanted to discuss it right then. I told her, it's on you because I am going to lash out & I don't care at this point. After I moved out, I came back to help them clear weeds in the backyard & got attacked in the face by a wasp nest. So one day I went to my sisters house, my niece had gastro. Being young she didnt wash her hands so well. I got her to help me make my sandwich so she handled everything the meat, the tomatoes, carrot, onion, bean sprouts and bread. She had no clue why but was happy to help even though she wasnt feeling well. Put my sandwich in the fridge labelled and as usual when I got to my meal break no food. Couldn't help but smile when the next shift I'm on I hear the suspected food thief is off with gastro. I told the others what I had done and it definitely got back to him. He never said anything but my food was never stolen again nor was anyone elses cause I exposed him with a nice dose of gastro.

The dairy one reminds me of a story my mom told me from when she was a kid. She's one of 6 kids and each kid would get a bottle of soda every week. the older ones had figured out at some point that they could take a few sips every day and they'd have something sweet to drink all week, but the little kids hadn't figured that out yet, so when they drank theirs all up on day 1, they would steal sips from their siblings. My grandma figured it out, and she'd set out decoy bottles of soda...but instead of soda, she filled them with cold coffee. Stopped the thieving really quick

One of my favorite milk thief stories is a woman whose coffee creamer kept going missing at work. She'd leave notes, her name, but it still went missing, and she was a new mother so really needed her coffee. Fed up, one day she filled the creamer bottle with her breastmilk. Love the lactose intolerant story, reminds me of when I was living on res at UNI (I'm from Australia) and the house I was in was a self contained share house. People often nicked stuff all the time, an me being the petty, petty person I am was always like... ok game on. Anyway, one day my best friend noticed her milk was getting taken off her shelf of fridge and drunk on her while she was at classes. She told RA (person is suppose to help) and they were basically like 'suxs to be you, just buy more'. I took offence since my friend got really upset with their lack of help. So since her and I got same type of milk (but mine was locked in my fridge in my room) I got my empty carton, cleaned it out and put it aside. then when I did my next grocery run I got some fresh habanero chilies from fruit and veg section, before going to baby section of store and got the cheapest/on special baby formula I could find. Then back at res (when I knew 90 percent of house was asleep) I mixed up formula and put it in pre prepared milk container and then just because I suspected they were drinking from carton I rubbed cut up chili on lid so it would get on lip of carton. (I had for warned my friend who was the only other person that got that brand of milk of my plans) Suffice to say my friends milk was never taken again, even if we did have to sit through a lecture from RA on 'acceptable behaviour concerning what was placed in fridges' I told them they should feel lucky I couldn't get my hands on 'real' baby milk and didn't just go with my original plan of laxatives.

I had roommates who stole from me. So I took drastic measures. Rearranged my bedroom, got a locking doorknob for the bedroom, put in a dorm fridge, and a tall shelf. My food, personal care items, and cookware stayed in my room. I kept the door locked any time I was out of my room. I stopped cooking for everyone. Only cooked enough for myself. Neither of the others could cook. So they had to start getting by on microwave dinners, instant ramen, fast food. Their food budgets went up dramatically. I paid for the internet, so I changed the password and cut them off. When I did eventually move out, I took out an ad in the local newspaper for the next couple of months. It said "If you're planning on rents at such and such place, don't. They will steal your food and personal items." Through mutual friends, I found out that they both eventually had to move back home as they couldn't afford the place with just the two of them.

I can’t tell you how many times people try to tell us so and so gave us a bid at this price can’t you come lower and we are like “no you should go to them since they are super affordable”, and here’s the plot twist 90% of the time the other company out bid us by a higher number. How do we know? Because we’re in a small town and all the trades talk. It’s funny when people think they are outsmarting us or trying to trick us but the joke is on them because guess what? 25 years ago, my 2nd job was my home-based business. I did custom sewing out of my converted garage, which had a front door and was separate from my house so I did most of the work after putting my son to bed. I was a single mom, working 25-30 hours a week at a printing company as a graphic artist. Most people understood that buying custom, hand-made items cost more, but then there were those "Karens" who complained that they could buy a simple dress from Walmart for $15 so I shouldn't charge $30 when they are supplying the fabric! Well, Karen, why don't you buy the Walmart dresses, then? "Because I want one made from the fabric that belonged to my grandmother, and with more detail, and custom fitting, blah, blah, blah..." My favorite customer was a sweet lady who was a health-missionary/nurse who spent months at a time in poor African countries going with other healthcare workers to remote villages to give vaccines and help build clinics. She needed modest, simple, cotton dresses that were comfortable in the hot humid environment, so she would have the same pattern made in different colors and patterns. I did give her a good discount since they were easy to make and didn't require multiple fittings. She surprised me and gave me an expensive bottle of perfume from Victoria's Secret for Christmas! Folks like her made the work so much more enjoyable.

I was just out of college, and had basically no choice but to move in with my dad (before I went to my university, my mother and I had been living with my grandmother as her caretakers, but my mum was moving out, and my aunt was taking over. And even though my aunt prefers to sleep in her recliner rather than her bed, I was told I couldn't stay). So, I wasn't exactly rolling in money, but I bought my own food and made my own meals so as to not be a bother, as I couldn't really afford rent, and yet my dad was _constantly_ mooching anything that looked good to him. I bought blueberry yogurt because it's one of my favorites, and they'd immediately disappear because he's a fiend for blueberries. Similarly, if I bought Pop-Tarts in any flavor, they'd start to disappear. I even came back at least once to find a package open, with one Pop-Tart taken, and the other just sitting there. Pretty sure some of it was also my stepsister, but it was clear that the sweets and especially my blueberry-flavored things were my dad. So I did the only reasonable thing: I stopped buying blueberry anything. Blueberry bagels? Nope, and no blueberry cream cheese spread either. Yogurt? Not a chance. Instead, I went with the easiest tool for keeping my dad out of my food: I bought anything I could in strawberry flavor. My dad is super allergic to strawberries, to the point of hives and swelling throat. So, when it became clear who the thief was, and particularly that the focus was on all my sweet foods (he's also type-2 diabetic, and gonzo for sugar in any form), I just switched to a sweet that he couldn't have. I seem to recall it leading to him sulking and wondering what happened to the blueberry things (it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure he straight-up asked me at one point, what happened to the blueberry yogurts!), and thus outing himself completely.

I had roommates who kept stealing my snacks and my juice boxes. I’m a type 1 diabetic that literally just got out of the nursing home from almost dying from my blood sugar. They wouldn’t replace or even tell me that it was gone. Several times I woke up with my blood sugar so low I could barely walk. I’d go try to get some juice and a snack and it would be gone. No one would go get some even if I’d offer to pay and give them gas money. Luckily my best friends mom lived in the same complex and she’d go get me something. It got so bad I ended up in the hospital with a blood sugar of 29. I was unconscious. My grams and mom went crazy and threatened to call the police. I moved out.

I feel this. I'm type 1, and the only thing I could really afford to keep around for lows is apple juice. I was using those bags of black forest gummy bears, but they got too expensive. My boyfriend will drink it all, and I'm the only one buying groceries, that have to be delivered, since I can't drive. So it's hard to get more juice after he drinks it in a week. And this is even after I've woken up in the back of an ambulance three times, because of low blood sugar in the middle of the night. My brain just shuts down, not letting me regain consciousness. One time it was for hours, like 9 hours, and my mom came over since I wasn't answering and had to call the ambulance, so at least you can go a lot longer than you think without hitting zero. I'm not sure what it goes down to, since I'm always unconscious, but I usually start waking back up when they get it up to 15. But after all that, you'd think he'd leave the apple juice for me. Nope. I've started buying instant grits as backup now, they actually work pretty fast. I just traded it out with a food item I always bought for him. And luckily, I finally have a dexcom now, so I can go to sleep, knowing I have a low alarm that will wake me up before my brain shuts down. I set it kinda high so I have plenty of time to act. Love that thing.

Visiting professional comedians dropped in often to hone their bantering skills with the small audience. My friend told me that anyone can get a few laughs by dropping f-bombs, or using crude toilet humor, but it takes skill to tell truly funny stories and jokes that wouldn't offend anyone. My friend Bob didn't let hecklers get to him, and he practiced his craft even at work, which made working with him delightful. Our bosses were great, and never minded us cracking jokes since we always got our work done. His style was the self-deprecating middle-aged suburban guy who had been happily married for decades. He joked about his wife, but it was never mean. In his stories, she was always the smart one while he pretended to be clueless. He passed away a few years ago, and he is sorely missed at the Backdoor Comedy club. Oh, the absolute worst audience members, hands down, were the bachelorette parties. I think the Karen landscaping call was ok. Yeah she was lying about there being another person, but she wasn't too rude. She wasted a bit of his time though. I once was getting sod installed in my back yard and I was calling a bunch of people for quotes. First person to finally give me a number was WAAAAY out of my budget. Like impossible. So I told him thank you but that I couldn't afford it. He tried to convince me that that's just what it costs. I told him I understood and I hadn't realized that it was simply that expensive and that I couldn't afford it and I'd just have to figure something else out. I was not trying to talk him down because I recognized his labor is worth whatever he needs to charge for it. He then suggested I use leftover sod from someone else's project because then I would only have to pay for the labor not the material. I asked him how much that would be and it was still higher than I could afford. I told him I really appreciated the suggestion but that it simply was outside my price range and I'd need to figure something else out. I had no intentions of calling other people or haggling him or anything like that, it was just my first time pricing such a task and he made me realize it was not an option at that time. So after multiple times of telling him "thank you, I guess I can't afford it." and trying to get off the phone, he said "Well what were you expecting to pay." And I gave him the absolute max number I was budgeting for. He said he'd do it for that price. I said "How can you, you need to run your business and pay your guys. I'm not trying to lowball you. If you tell me this isn't what it costs then I can't afford it." He insisted. I got it done for my price and then when my friends saw the sod and asked what I paid, they got mad at me because they thought I badgered the man into doing it for that price. Maybe he needed the job, maybe he felt bad for me. Not sure. But it never hurts to be honest when you can't afford something. Don't have to lie about another offer because the logical question will always be then "why don't you go with that other offer."

Most people have never haggled. The listed price is the price, right? It is much easier now to research and find a ballpark figure for your costs. Negotiating with a contractor is the same as buying a car or asking for a raise. Most people don't like doing it and therefore are bad at it. What one fellow can't afford to do at your price, another would jump at the chance. A large company can't do small jobs, just as a small company can't do a big project. Negotiating takes practice. Oh- I had traumatic flashbacks with the first one! My brother's ex was always taking my stuff, using my stuff, eating my food, & lying about it. I became an involuntary vegetarian because I wasn't going to buy meat & stuff that I wouldn't get to eat- groceries were expensive enough without essentially buying them for someone else... The first final straw came when she stole the wedding planner guide I'd bought to help an old friend- she'd asked to 'borrow' it a few weeks before; I said yes, but I needed it returned (because I was going to send some stuff to my friend). It was given back that afternoon- but the next time I went to get it, it was gone- I asked her if she was borrowing it again, & she said she didn't have it. I knew that was a lie- but I wasn't going to push it, I just reminded her to put it back in my bookshelf. Some ugly muttering under her breath, but I ignored it. I brought it up with my brother but he did nothing- despite reminding him that *_I_* paid for it; he said he looked for it, in their room but it 'wasn't there'... After a little while, I got sick of being ignored & gaslit, & decided to do something about it - this was it for me; on a day I'd be home alone, I decided to look for it myself- sure enough: not even 3 mins of searching, & I found it. I debated hiding it in my room, or even mentioning it- but the thought, 'F*ck it- this is my property. She stole it, _lied_ about still having it- I'd asked my brother to see if she still had it, & he bs-ed me, too. No- I'm going to confront them' Sure enough, they returned home, & our mum's with them- I brought out the book & said pointedly, "I thought you said you looked for it- *I* found it in a matter of minutes" And you would not believe the carry-on; her acting like me *having* to go look for it was the real problem, not her multiple bare-faced lies, refusal to return my property when I asked, & my own brother covering up for her. I wouldn't have *had* to go in their room if she had just returned it, instead of lying to my face- continually, like she did about **everything** They did eventually break up, but it was _ages_ after this - things got so bad that my mother talked to one of my aunts about how bad my situation was, & I moved down to live with them for a few months (turns out it was a blessing in disguise, because it gave me time with my grandmother that I wouldn't have otherwise had, before she passed away). I came back home not long after the break up, & when she was getting the last of her stuff, I gave her a long overdue piece of my mind- while it would never make up for what I went through, nor what I lost- it was a small cathartic moment

The roommate one is so relatable! People are hard to live with, myself included hahah. I know I have flaws. I lived with a friend where we didn’t have a dishwasher. We both agreed we would wish our own dishes. We both tried to wash them as we used them, but we all know how that goes. Sometimes after a long day, you don’t want to wash your dishes right away. We BOTH got lazy, BOTH had dishes in the sink. This was when I was young and was basically living off of cereal and popcorn. I just had cereal bowls and spoons in the sink. She would make like oatmeal in mugs and shakes and stuff. Came home from somewhere and the sink was overflowing. But mind you, I had some in there and so did she. As she was walking out the door she says “if those dishes could get done before the weekend, that would be great” ALRIGHT BET. Did my dishes and anything that had food crusted into the mugs and cups and bowls went straight into the trash. Even found apple cores stuffed into cups IN THE SINK. Maybe a bit petty, but I did not want bugs so I did what I thought was best for the situation. Maybe she’d think twice about letting her food sit for DAYS and then try to make me wash them 🫡

The one time I drank my roommates soda was because my blood sugar had dropped. I am hypoglycemic so I only get lows not highs. Even then I felt so guilty that as soon felt better I got 12 pack on same soda and replaced it. Now that replaced it with the same exact sized product that she had before she came home from work, I was in the clear right? Nope, the guilt still bugged me so told her what I did and gave her the 12 pack. She was so happy but I still felt a little bad. She even told we can share the 12pack. If your roomate wouldve berated you for preventing them from comming home to a corpse (averted by the consumption of the soda), and after replacing it (essentially twelve-fold), then they were a toxic roomate. I got mad when I saw my (not-very-cheap) juice was drank, but my diabetic dad told me he needed something faster than his Glucerna tabs and his liquid Glucerna was out, and his Blood Sugar was in the middle of tanking. Liquid sugar works faster than tabs or solid sugar, so soda or juice would be the best choice in such an emergancy; my dad only had Diet Soda and my mom's oj ran out that morning. I calmed down after hearing the "why" to how my juice deminished quicker than I was expecting, but told him to text me next time (after the sugar takes effect) so I know what to expect when I look in the fridge. I honestly thought my big brother chugged my juice, again.

As long as you own up and explain your reasons for doing so and give a reasonable replacement, everything should be fine. Relationships has to be built on trust and respect, not suspicion and distrust, and both hands are needed to clap, so as long as you treat each other like so, harmony is kept. Heck, I reckon you'd probably always have some soda on hand in the room in case it happens again, courtesy of your roommates. Nice if your roommates have your back like that.

Never put OTC medication in food or drink as a prank. People can have an allergic reaction, a medical condition that reacts poorly to that medication, or be on a medication that interacts with that other medication. It's also considered assault. I have been an RN for almost 30 years, and even over the counter medications can create serious side effects. Sudden cardiac arrest brought on by cardiac arrhythmia from a potassium imbalance due to dehydration from diarrhea (which the Ex Lax caused) is a real thing.
