I agree. I do color my hair - fun colors, not brown - but overall I don't care. Right now I am having problems with my back that will result in surgery. I've had to walk with a cane for several months. At first I resisted because it's not an image of myself that I like, but I really need it and now I've changed how I see myself. Fun hair color, a few wrinkles, needs cane!

So much of social media is curated. Only the "best" photos and videos are posted. When you see people in real life, it is so different than what is put out on social media. I'm 45, turning 46 and i'm so glad to just enjoy what I have. All my wrinkles and fine lines have been earned. In my 20s, I decided that I wasn't going to be bound by other people's determination of me. It made my life so much easier as time has gone on. Thank you for making this video. Gives a lot of food for thought.

I’m 33 now and I look I guess younger but I don’t think people realize that everyone ages differently. I hope to age gracefully like Meryl Streep - take care of your skin and health and don’t try to fight the natural progression but work with it.

When I was a teenager I thought my teachers looked so old - and some were women in their twenties! I recently opened my high school yearbook for the first time in decades, and was shocked by how much younger they looked than I remember them. Everybody over twenty looks ancient when you're a teenager.

I started working for Walmart at age 56. I just retired. I worked there nearly 19 years. I’ll be 75 in August. Around the time I was 60, or a little more, I was on a register helping a young man check out. Before he left he said, I just have to say that you’re very beautiful. I was dumbfounded… I spluttered and said something stupid. I’m old enough to be your grandmother. He smiled and said, Even if that’s true, it doesn’t change the fact that I think you’re beautiful. I gathered my wits sufficiently to say thank you. I had become so accustomed to being invisible. To only get the qualified compliment….for your age. That day I received a golden nugget to relive…. I wasn’t invisible and probably never was…. Thank you for a wonderful video!💛

In my country, I no longer exist, I'm 45! Everything is stop, when you turn 45! No jobs, no more man's atentions ( just for fun), no more beautiful dresses, bikini, no more everything you can imagen...I'm done with my life, it's so hard. My husband go with girl she is in early 30, childrens go away, they over 18....I'm alone, I will lost my job next year, so no job, no nothing..just go and rooth, old granny. That's hurt soooo sooo much! Still full of life, still wish for some love ( IMPOSIBLE), still wish to work (maybe online something). I can't even get a help from my country for house..just ppl under 45 - willl be homless! Oh Gosh..my face is change over night...I just wish to live life, with no ageism, and be usefull as just one year youngers. Depression here is bff for women my age in my position, and a lot of woman as me live just to be alive...sad.

I’m going to be 80 this summer. I’ve had a great life and have had many experiences. I recovered from a stroke in my early seventies and I’m just so happy to be alive and well. My hair is now white and I have lots of laugh lines. These show that I’ve lived a good life. Don’t sweat the small things.

@@itsjustmyopinionbut1671I’m 63 and I have always been beautiful. But I really take good care of my skin. I would never have surgery, botox or fillers. Just 2 days ago waiting for the train after an 18 hour day. A young man walked by and told me I was gorgeous. I never think about my age or anyone else’s. I don’t miss my youthful beauty at all. And I had no privacy because everyone was staring at me when I was in public. Your mind grows with age so your values change and you just aren’t consumed with yourself. So unless you haven’t grown emotionally you will be quite happy. But that is rare to not mature and it’s probably only the mentally immature who are unhappy with their age.

My cousin just passed away at 59 after her three year battle with cancer, two weeks later my brother who just turned 53 passed away after taking his own life. So… enjoy the ride while you can people, your body is just a vessel and this life is short, one is SO lucky to grow old. Be Thankful for Every Moment.

I am 22 years old, part of Gen Z. Worked a lot of retail/food service and many of my coworkers were in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. As an esthetician, most of my clients are over 40. People age so differently yet remain beautiful. I hear alot of negative self-talk from women who are older than me and it's sad. I always tell them, trust me I've seen many faces and you do in fact look your age, and many people have the same skin concerns, your skin is normal, and you look beautiful. This whole comment sounds like virtue signaling but the purpose is really to show that we are not all doomed and that there is no point in having an us-vs-them mentality when it comes to age. The generation war hurts us all in the end. Ageism and filters destroy us all. For every young girl who asks me what to do about her "too big" pores, there is a old woman who says there is no hope for her skin, as if her appearance is a lost cause. Besides, my young ass will be a old ass one day. Why would I say mean things about my future self?

This is exactly what we should think. There is a privilege in getting older. We are lucky enough to still be here. I am going to a funeral shortly of a beautiful woman (she was truly beautiful, with or without make up) in her very early fifties, she loved life and grasped it by the balls, so I am exceptionally grateful that I woke up this morning in my mid fifties. What matters is that we take the best care of ourselves that we can.

I'm 49 and when I was young I knew the difference between the looks of someone who had access to all the beauty and healthcare their millions could buy. The problem as I see it is that there's a blurring of the lines between reality and artifice now. Look at the TV shows presented as 'reality' but far from it.

I'm 61 and ageing gracefully is SO liberating. I look after my skin with inexpensive skincare, eat decent food, don't smoke or drink, still wear a small amount of makeup everyday, dress well, love nature and walk regularly and never been so happy in my own skin. We all need to embrace and learn to love ourselves instead of comparing and being brainwashed into self loathing....that's freedom x

Golden Girls dealt with this issue forty years ago; the success of the show proved that older women could be perfectly successful in leading roles and the show still holds up today. They even did an episode on ageism in season 5 ("Rose Fights Back")

I’m 27. One thing I find really heartbreaking is the genre of post that goes something like “I’ve trained myself not to move my face/eyebrows/forehead when I laugh or speak so that I don’t get wrinkles.” It is so evil that this obsession with looking young is making women not want to laugh, smile, or emote. I will not give up expressing my joy for the next 60+ years to avoid looking “old”

They don't even realise they are basing their identity on being sad fuckable objects to men, which is perhaps the worst thing any woman can do. I have 2 words, Terry Schiavo. It's very sad but she was in a coma for years, barely moved her face, didn't get sun obviously and she still aged. When she finally was allowed to pass away she looked her age, not 26.

I did look younger than my age , but a decade of chronic pancreatitis due to a botched gall bladder surgery, changed all that. But I quickly realized that being alive deserved first place in my priorities. I dress for me, for joy, for mucking out the barn in old jeans and boots, for dinner out with my husband. Do I look my age? YES! And thank goodness I am here to see it.

Like she said, there is no "for your age." We all have internal clocks and science believes there is sort of a switch in our cells that is genetically set for each of us to turn on and to tell our bodies, "ok, it's time to start aging." I look at that like it's our bodies getting on with the natural progression of life. Looked at in that way, our days are very much a gift: only so many sunrises and sunsets to behold. Only so many sleeps. Only so much laughter and learning... In that regard, the way we "look" is so very trivial, and prioritizing it and trying to keep to a standard of some imaginary metric that tells us we look "good" or "bad" for our age is nonsense.

Same, at 40 had ppl thinkin I was my 10 years younger friends equal, then got Chronic Fatigue Syndrom 10 y ago, then 8 years ago Breastcancer. Didn't even had chemo yet, but now there's days were I feel I look like my 70 y old mother. Sunken dark and tired eyes, because of anti hormone therapy all skin looking dry, hanging, lots of wrinkles. But at the end it doesn't play a role, bc of back surgery for bone metastases I look like Quasimodo, and because I had no energy anyway since 10 years, dating was never an option for all that time anyway. Now I can just be happy if I can survive some more time, manage the pains, my ever collecting new symptoms boy and be there for my kids a bit more

Yeah I guess it’s true, I’m 33 and I still get approached by random guys in their 20s, they usually are so cute and shy too. I always make sure to let them down politely (kinda easy since I’m married) and to compliment them for their courage bc I feel like nowadays guys really have to walk on eggshells when approaching women, it just feels like everything got so much more complicated than needed, they probably approach me because maybe I look more relaxed and easygoing than 90% of the girls who are actually their age lol

I’m 63 and enjoy some Botox,filler, and wear makeup everyday but at some point it’s true that “you’re as young as you feel”. A bigger gift than looking 10 yrs younger is feeling 20 years younger than some of my peers - working out, having energy and endurance, waking up without aches and pains. Hopefully young women will value their health at least as much as what’s in the mirror.

Unfortunately, ageism is alive and well even in these days and times. An example that i experience all the time is why do I still have long hair? I am in my 60's and for some reason people feel the need to stop me and comment on when do I plan on cutting my hair? I tell them Well, it's healthy, and I like it long and my husband loves it. But why do people still think when you reach a certain age you are supposed to cut your hair? Last night on a T.V. show a young man said he thinks older women should not have long hair; he couldn't tell you why not just that he felt it was so wrong. And then he was asked at what age should a women cut her hair and he said 42. What? Well, men have notoriously never been kind to older women but why can't women support each other in all ages instead of tearing each other down, how sad.

It's probably because they associate long hair with sexual desirability and thus seeing it on a woman they consider non-viable in this regard makes them feel deeply uncomfortable. Which is they own bloody problem for being so fragile and snowflakey. I laugh at dudes like this and mock them to hell, and they tend to get sullen and shut their traps. Which is the desired outcome. How dare they run around dictating hair length to anyone? Most men dress like crap and do nothing to look good for women, especially as they age. So nah, their opinions are neither sought nor listened to.

My ex's 90 yr grandmother had beautiful long silver hair that she wore in a pretty, classy bun and would let it down each night and brush before bed. I always said I would be just like her when I was in my earlyv30's. I'm 59 two days ago & although I think I would be heartbroken to give into going grey someday, I still wear my hair to my mid back. It's naturally curly and red and everyone loves it. But, I'm very fortunate and still get carded to buy alcohol, occasionally!! 🎉

So relatable! I’m in my 60’s and have long hair and my male 24 year old hairdresser just suggested I cut it drastically. I really should have asked him why he thought it was a good idea. My hair is very thick, healthy, and looks amazing. I’m told all the time how fabulous it is. I’ll cut my hair when I’m good and ready and it won’t be because some 20 something year old suggested it. When my son was about 17 his girlfriend's mom chopped all of her long beautiful hair off. He asked me why women do this when they turn 40. Told him I had no clue why. He said "please don't do that when you turn 40, there is no good reason to." I'm 52 with waist length healthy hair. I get it cut regularly to keep the ends in check but I have no intentions on ever whacking it all off. My mom has had the Golden Girls haircut all of my life. He was convinced that I was lying and that I just had a head full of extensions. I told him to feel around, you won't find any. He seemed annoyed and never took me up on my offer. He believed once you were 30, you needed to go short. I never let him get near me with scissors with that attitude. I assumed he was taught this in school because short haircuts need more frequent visits for upkeep, frequent visits = more money.

It’s easy to look young in your 30’s and early 40’s if you take care of yourself. Hormone changes in your mid-to-late 40’s and 50’s are so extreme they literally are you. Menopause causes a 30% reduction in collagen in your skin…30% is a massive amount. Also, chronic insomnia is common due to hormone changes, and chronic lack of sleep ages people. It’s hard without HRT to not age at a certain point.

You age a ton even with hormone replacement. I always took care of myself and didn't begin to age until my very late 30s, and it wasn't much, just a loss of fat in my face (I'm also thin, which doesn't help). At 40, I still didn't have a wrinkle in sight, and my body was the same as ever. But by my late 40s, I didn't even recognize myself anymore, and it happened overnight. I just feel like everything I spent decades doing to avoid aging horribly like my mother was a waste of time: hiding from the sun, wearing hats, using sunscreen daily, eating healthy, not smoking, not drinking, exercising, etc. Menopause won in the end. I'd like my 30-something hormones back!

@natasha09179 I have been on a combo birth control pill for over 30 years. I started skipping the placebo week in my early 30s to suppress my long, painful periods. So, technically, I could be post-menopausal, but I highly doubt it based on family history. I have a GYN, and she's on board with my staying on the pill to avoid most peri-menopausal symptoms and keeping my bones strong and heart healthy, plus lowering the risk of certain cancers. All I know is something happened 2 years ago, which is when all the weird symptoms started, like alopecia, forgetfulness, etc., plus the rapid aging and very mild weight gain. Oh, joy.

@@oceans.and.deserts those all sound like classic menopause symptoms (like the brain fog), which is odd if you are on birth control, even if you are in menopause. I don’t seem to follow the typical pattern, personally. I have no heavy periods, for example, but the other symptoms are present if I get off HRT. Regular BC gave me horrendous joint pain and swelling in my legs, even a super low dose, and I couldn’t deal with it. The only other thing I am hearing is to use estrogen directly on the face (the weak kind made for the labia), because the systemic stuff doesn’t seem to do enough to combat signs of aging. That is my personal plan, as of now. Dr. Erin Hirsch from Harvard med mentions this.

I think people today as a whole truly do look much younger for longer, but I think modern styling really skews that perception. I recently saw pictures from a high school reunion that took place in 2004. Everyone in the pictures were in their mid 30s, and I thought they truly looked much much older than me or any of my friends (I’m 32). My friends and I have not had surgeries, fillers, or Botox.However, I think the outdated clothing and hair styles were influencing how I perceived their age. If you took the same men and women and gave them modern clothes and hair, maybe I would see them as much younger. One positive change I notice in society is people wearing whatever they want no matter their age. Growing up, I remember shopping with my mom and she would try things on and say “this is for a much younger woman” even if she looked amazing in it! I don’t think people care quite as much about “dressing their age.” I see people dressing in more elevated, and high quality clothes as they get older, but they are still very much on trend.

I'm your age and have worn sunscreen religiously since I was 19 in the early '90s. There was info out there about photoaging back then, especially in fashion magazines, which is where I learned about it. Sunscreen and sun avoidance won't stop the aging process, but I did look young for a lot longer than most people, and still get told I have nice skin by other women. Due to perimenopause, I am now rapidly aging and it's rather frightening. I had no idea that occurred if you take hormone replacement, but it does. I think Baby Boomers on up aged more than GenX due to sun damage and smoking, so it is good if people have adopted healthier lifestyle habits.

You know, when I was in high school my best friends mom was my school teacher. An incident that I still always remember: I had seen photos of her in her 20s and I said oh wow you were stunning!! And I kept gushing. And I remember I was surprised at her reaction that she was surprised at my comments/didn't take it really as a compliment/seemed hurt. I didn't realized at the time that I was implying you don't look like that now/I never would assume that you could look so beautiful. Now I know that obviously is how it comes across. So it is a difficult situation to handle in the moment because sometimes its just a natural reflex reaction. From our perspective we see it as a compliment and from theirs they may be hurt by it. Now we can learn to be extra sensitive and tone our reflex reaction down and add "and your even more beautiful now!!"

Had weird opinions based on lack of knowledge about basic facets of society. I'm part of Gen-X and have had time to adjust to seeing the signs of aging on my face. I can't imagine what seeing the signs of aging will be like for these young women who are putting everything in the "looks" basket. Unless they have great genetics, unlimited time, and/or wealth (facelifts are expensive!), their age will eventually begin to show and they won't have put anything else in the _other_ "baskets" that make for a fulfilling mid-life and beyond.

I mean, facelifts etc show your age. Just in a different way. You cannot hide being decades older than twenty. You can only put on different disguises and the ugliest one IMO is hacking at your features with knives and poisons until it resembles a pulled, filled, clown mask. Actual youth bears no resemblence to the plastic surgery look. None. Adjust your hair and style as you grow older to what suits the face you have, not the face you had thirty years ago, and you'll be fine.

Well said Charlotte. When I was in my 20's, 30's, even 40's, applying SPF 50 to your face every day just wasn't a thing - in fact it was quite the opposite. You would slather yourself in cooking oil and sit out in the sun to get every inch of you tanned, especially your face as that's the body part most people saw. We didn't have botox and 'tweakments' back then and skincare contained very basic ingredients. Gen Z have the opportunity to age more slowly. However, social media does give everyone an unrealistic idea of what a person should look like at a certain age. My mum was 40 when she had me and looking back on photos, she looks a lot older than most 40 year olds do now. Age can be an attitude and state of mind as well as genetics etc playing a role. Putting a video out and and asking people to guess your age is just asking for trouble in my opinion because you're most likely not going to get the answers you crave. Some who respond are probably jealous or just being deliberately unkind.

I mean, it's interesting the ageing only seems to mean how facial skin looks. We age internally, genetically, our organs age, and Gen Z will fare poorly because they smoke, vape, inject their faces in the prime of youth with fillers that migrate around and they have poor diets based on a lot of junk and obesity levels which were only seen in late middle age are common in that generation, as is super morbid obesity, which is the one of the greatest predictors of poor health later in life, and by later I mean they will be rife with diseases in their early 40s and will not last to 70 or 80.

And regardless of all the hate they get from millenials and gen z, baby boomers were the ones involved in the 60's and 70's social movements around the world. I am 64 and proud of it. I do not watch Tik Tok. There is so much pressure to staying young particularly women not so much men, go figure. I notice that on Swedish TV there are many older women on TV shows and movies. In Greece older women disappear from the TV channels somehow, while male presenters still work in their 50s and 60s. It says something about the equality of men and woman in different countries...

Aging is a privilege. My mother passed away at 57 and I was THRILLED t0 turn 58!! And it is true that Gen Z has a different reference point. But who care how old anyone is?

​​@@selenachan4230i think you need to do more research on Millennials. We're the generation that first encountered the unpaid internship as a barrier to entry in many fields. I have a friend who lived with 4 roommates while working as a corporate exec. Boomers own way more homes than Millennials to the point where it's another factor in Millennials choosing not to have kids, as there's nowhere to house them. The PR agency I interned at in 2005 charged clients well over $100/per hour for every hour I worked on an account, btw.

THANK YOU. I just turned 69 and I don’t recognize the face in the mirror looking back at me. I haven’t for 45 years😂😂. She’s not a size 8, she has a saggy neck and jowls, droopy eyelids, and random chin and lip hairs. I do recognize the hair because I quit coloring it when I hit my mid to late 40s. I was curious what color it actually was. I was carded at the bars all the way into my mid 30s, and then they stopped asking for my ID and started calling me “ma’am”. Now, I walk into the drugstore to buy gift cards and I get asked if somebody told me to buy them. Ummm, no…I’m buying dinner and massages for my kids for Christmas…why are you even asking me that??? (I didn’t know that was a scam thing, but I don’t trust any emails I don’t recognize, and don’t answer unknown calls or texts anyway) Getting old is not for the faint of heart. It’s quite the humbling experience!

Gosh this is an important discussion. I’m currently 48 with a soon to be 9 year old daughter. I’m one of the older mums at her school and I do put a bit of pressure on myself to look my very best as don’t want to ‘look’ like the oldest mum. This said am also trying to model a healthy and realistic attitude to ageing as I’m concerned about social media’s influence in general. It’s really difficult to strike a balance. I’m using language like “I’m excited to reach level 49 of life and the wholesome food I eat and exercise I do helps keep me healthy” - “and makeup isn’t necessary but it sure does add colour to my look”. We can but try 🤷🏻‍♀️ Keep up the great work Charlotte. ❤

YEES! I am almost 39 with a three year old, and I am hyper aware of the fact I must model self love for this little human when there are 10 year olds buying out Sephora beauty products and making KZbin beauty videos where they say “I look ugly” before doing a full skin care routine and applying makeup! NOT ON MY WATCH! If Gen Z has it bad, imagine what these even younger people will experience if we are not really careful! It’s our duty as moms to keep healthy expectations and speak kindly of ourselves (and other women.) Raising daughters isn’t easy with the influence of social media, yet our influence is even more important! There are little eyes and ears watching and listening, and we are up against A LOT.

@@MMLZombie I wish this was an exaggeration, but it’s not. This is actually happening!! It’s a very real thing, and there has been a lot of debate about these tweens and the parents who give them hundreds of dollars to buy beauty products and the mothers who have Tik Tok accounts in their name… all the while they film their very young girls doing skincare routines and makeup routines for clout and “likes” and gifts from major brands! Most of these accounts are even receiving sponsorship from brands. It’s sickening!

I'm soon to be 61, this year in our ONG dinner one of the Gen Z girls (we welcome all help no matter the age) asked me about my age when I told her I was 60 yo she answered really loud: "That's old!! But amazing....when I grow old I want to be like you!!!". Everybody laughed and she looked at me confused (poor thing) so I told her: "Right now I don't know if I should kill ypu or thank you! Laughing of course. Then I proceed to explain about what to say ir not about anyone's age. At the end...I stay with...When I grow older I want to be like you!!! That was so sweet!!

Another thing that's interesting is that in media, the "pre teen" category has largely gone away and with plastic surgery 40 year old women are now still playing 25-30 year olds in film and tv. So we're living in a world where 26 year olds are playing high school students, actual 26 year olds, 40 year olds etc... We've flattened the representation of age to be 26 no matter how old or young you are. Additionally- being unmarried, renting an apartment, and being child free used to be associated only w/ people under 30. Now a wide range of ages have that lifestyle (which can change the perception of adulthood). Lastly- Online shopping has also leveled access to expressing your style. When stores were brick and mortar you largely had "young" and "old" styles and stores. Now 15 year olds thrift "older" brands and 40 year olds are buying Revolve tops. This is why I think genx, boomers and millenials themselves perceive millenials as young looking, where anyone raised with filters, fillers, and the forever 26 saturation of media may feel differently.

I'll be turning 68 in less than 3 weeks, and am truly happy with the natural changes time has made to my face, knowing they reflect the experience and wisdom I have gained in life. Plus, I remember with good humor what my father always used to say when I was much younger and would make an ignorantly disparaging comment about older people: "Keep breathing, kid." And boy-oh-boy, was he ever right! 😁

I’m 59 and was born in 1965, the beginning of GenX. I have been having some fun watching GenXers talk about the things we did growing up. We had Hollywood and magazines telling us we didn’t measure up. But people say things on social media they would not say in real life, at least I hope they wouldn’t. We can be our own worst critics but apparently some social media users can be even harder on us than we are on ourselves. I don’t miss being attached to the wall to talk on the phone. But I think somewhere between cordless phones and today we got really lost. What if we didn’t have our phones with us all the time? What if we didn’t count on strangers on a glowing rectangle to tell us our value and worth? Every human being is of infinite value and worth no matter what. I have known that long before social media came along.

Lovely video and thoughtfully presented. Thank you. I think many confuse “getting older” and “maturity”. And comparing (which is always lethal) ourselves to “celebrity” is foolish to begin with. Look through history, those generations who came before lived much different lives…harder lives…more difficult lives. It shortened life spans and was written upon their brows. Celebrities were subjected to harsh lighting, the elements and time schedules. Most ate poorly, drank heavily, smoked incessantly, slept only on pills and woke to them as well. The constant worry of being rendered irrelevant was ever present. Today’s celebrities still practice much the same, but now avail themselves to filters, fillers, injections, surgery and medications. Never look to “celebrity” as a barometer for anything. You should look healthy and vibrant in your late thirties!! LOL!! You should look healthy (if all is well) in your forties!! Because you’re still YOUNG!!! LOL!!! And dare I say you’re still young into your 50’s and even 60’s nowadays when you put it into context of the grand scheme of things!!! LOL!! I am 61 and have never wanted to be any age other than the one I was currently occupying…just the best version of it! Attitude has everything to do with everything!! Think youthful…keep a youthful mind, but be proud of maturing. I was always mistaken for much younger most of my life…my twin sons were 18 and their teachers in their senior year still thought I was their sister!! LOL! Millennials and Zers DO NOT have a lock on “looking younger than other generations”.LOL!!! I remarried my ex-husband at 49 and looked like a youthful much younger bride. I had my babies young, so I’m a young youthful grandma too!! And let’s not forget the roll genetics play. My mom, her sisters and my grandma all looked years younger than their age…they had beautiful hands for ever because they grew up in a time where women wore gloves everywhere…stylish, feminine, and great sun protection. Menopause will hit ya, ladies and things will start to change, but life is not lost! LOL!! It really just begins, because of maturity…you start to sift out all the useless stuff and surround yourself with what truly matters!! It’s pretty wonderful and truly a blessing!! PS…regarding men being allowed to “age”…I think again, they are maturing. Men are thrilled to mature because most men feel gawky and awkward as younger men. They feel unsure of themselves and feel intimidated by more mature men (regardless of physical strength -they know the difference and the value of each)…men love to be seen as older, mature and wise.

I'm 53 and swore myself years ago to not dye my gray hair. I still don't have a lot of gray but my own sister (58) just told me this week: Women (in this case me) that don't dye their hair look unkempt 😳. I was speechless!!! Another great topic, Charlotte 👏👏! I think it's important to talk about this. When I remember my grandma at the age of 80 she was an ancient lady in a house frock. My mother, now 80 too, would wear my clothes if I would borrow them to her 😉. Not to forget the big progress the "beauty industry" has made (My (grand)mother never heard about Botox, fillers, laser therapy, Retinol.....) But I think the biggest difference between the generations is the pressure of social media. 😘

gen z'er here Some of us look younger ,some of us look older . Depends on your lifestyle tbh if you drink, smoke and don't wear spf you will age faster. Also genetics play a huge role in this eg everyone in my family has baby faces so I always get told I look 19 and I'm 24 soooo. Also there's more knowledge about skincare now than there was ten years ago . But age shaming is wrong no matter how old you are .

The message of this video is that gen z has a false perspective of what "age" looks like because your generation has only been exposed to manipulated faces thru filters and celebrity plastic surgery. We all know genetics and lifestyle play a role. Charlotte, this was a wonderful and insightful video. Bravo! How did asking a bunch of perfect strangers how old we look ever become a thing? It smacks of insecurity and an unhealthy obsession with artificially created perfection. The trolls and bullies of the world come out in force and lambast every wrinkle and crinkle, every strand of grey, every droop of an eyelid or sagging of the jawline. We know that there are a multitude of people who only feel good about themselves when they are putting other people down, but it really seems to have gotten out of hand with Gen Z. The only thing worse-and sadder-than the vitriol they spew, is the degree to which they must hate their own appearance. I’m 80 and don’t care how old or young someone thinks I am. Instead, I want to look healthy, physically fit, energetic, and vibrant. I want to keep an open and inquiring mind and maintain a zest for life. Those are the things I care about and those are the things that give us the illusion of youth.

I am a bit older than you and here in the States we had a television show called Beverly Hills 90210. The characters were all supposed to be in high school--so about 14-18. The actors/actresses on the show were all in their twenties and thirties. So, I thought I looked so young and immature in comparison. Then, when I finally got to my real 20s and 30s, I thought I was over the hill and looked terrible. Now, in my late 40s, I realize how lucky I have always been. I continue to put effort in my outward appearance because it pleases me and I love makeup, trips to salon, doing my nails, etc. I feel aging is privilege for me personally. I am trying to raise my child with acceptance for all--regardless of their outward appearance. I get a lot of eye rolls, but I hope the message is getting in!

I just had 12 inches of my long gray hair cut off. That's a foot of hair and it's still past my shoulders. Mostly because it does get hard to manage and very hot in the summer, but I will never dye my hair again. I hated it. Every 3 weeks I was dyeing my roots and then going to the hair dresser for a dye which got ridiculously expensive so I started over and let the dye grow out. No regrets.

I was always told I looked much younger than my age until about 10 years ago. I’m 64 now and decided several years ago that it was ridiculous to keep coloring my hair since it was only going to get more gray! I’m in great shape and am having fun in life. My husband and I have a KZbin channel, and I have noticed that this community is much kinder and more tolerant than others (especially TikTok) and suspect it’s the generational difference in viewers/commenters.
