There’s a clarity to your understanding of these machines that I don’t find in the work of literally any other reviewer/demoer on the tubes. You seem to grasp the conceptual possibilities of each musical device more acutely and I always feel more enlightened by your videos than I do even by demos that seem more directly conceived to be informative. The difference is really abstract, a combination of your playing and the settings you use, but it seems very clear to me. I appreciate this greatly.

@neonether
@neonether 3 жыл бұрын
Most Moogs have a fantastic organic oscillator sound. Almost basic, but pure. Perfect for mixing up with Mood, WV, and my current favorite, Dark World. Listening to some arps twist and linger in the ambiance is one of my favorite sounds in the world.

@forestchild3261
@forestchild3261 3 жыл бұрын
@@neonether It's incredible. Though from time to time I keep considering the Sub25 instead of the stereo set, just because I miss the simplicity and CBA pedal combos. Matriarch is incredible, but at times it feels like it's too big. On the other hand, Sub25, Mood, Blooper, Thermae, Warped Vinyl and a Spectre - that would be insane.
@neonether
@neonether 3 жыл бұрын
@@forestchild3261 Yeah that would be insane. Two mono synths I use most are mother 32 and prophet 5. CBAs sound great with rooms or some other stereo at the end. If I want to run full stereo, they go straight into a stereo chorus to start with, e.g. boss ce-300, my fav chorus for synth. Oh the combinations!

KZbin recommended "Red Means Recording" to me yesterday with a video about.. I can't remember. Anyway on his page I found the peace he did out of samples from your videos. It was so good to see it again, and perfect as an end of a year/era kind of thing. Have a great 2018 who ever you are. The Nyx sound is so great. Haven't got one but Nick Batt is right: its a Blade Runner Machine. A friend of mine got the Vangelis album for the original on vinyl, so in my opinion this pedal suits that particular synth wherry well.

i wish it were otherwise, but this pedal was so noisy i couldn't justify keeping it. it was fantastically organic and had a great sound, of course, but, you know, in case you're wondering what drawbacks there might be. it's possible that i had a lemon or that i just used it wrong somehow, but that was my experience, and it was with some regret that i returned it. otoh, the gravitas is a keeper, imo. no noisier than my old tr-2, and it has fantastic tone and depth of control. i mention all this bc knobs' demos are so spectacular, so artful in themselves, that it's almost hard to evaluate the pedals sometimes, which is by no means a dig: he's probably my favorite composer at the moment. haha. though i do certainly sympathize with some of the other comments lamenting the absence of distorted blues licks.

Of course very similar in area. But where Warped Vinyl shines is in versatility and weirdness. Where Julia shines is in tasteful sounds regardless of how it's dialed. In that way they are completely opposite, and what you prefer is up to you. I myself find the Julia more brilliant because it's so easy to get the tone you're looking for.

Very Ironic, we’ll complain that these High-End Quality Digital Pedals are “expensive” at $500 or so,.. But we’ll GLADLY pay $1000-$1500 or more for a rare 50+ year old vintage pedal- used and abused over the decades- halfway scuffed and beat up- with most of the components out of spec- who knows how many times it’s been serviced (orig components replaced?) - etc.
