Chase Trifecta - The #1 Credit Card Setup For FREE Travel

In this video, we are looking at the best credit card setup of 2023 which is the Chase Trifecta. I’ll go over all of the Chase credit cards that make up this setup and discuss the benefits of these credit cards to show you why I think the Chase Trifecta is very much worth it!
So the Chase Trifecta is made up of 2 no annual fee credit cards which are the Chase Freedom Unlimited and the Chase Freedom Flex, and then you can choose either the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Chase Sapphire Reserve which both have annual fees. This creates a 3 credit card setup that will be able to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards Points that you can later redeem for a lot of value. These Chase points can be redeemed for either cash back or travel, and that flexibility is one of the main reasons why I really love the Chase Trifecta credit card setup.
Hopefully this video will help to highlight all of the Chase Trifecta benefits that make it so valuable to almost anyone with good credit. Even though this setup might be lacking in some areas when it comes to missing points multipliers in certain categories or points multipliers that overlap across credit cards, I still think that the upfront value is too good to pass up. I know that the Chase Trifecta has given me thousands of dollars in value for travel over the past few years, so I want to see other people experience the same thing!

You know I love the Chase Trifecta! It’s a setup that almost anyone can get value out of whether you’re on team cash back or travel and it makes it really simple to do so. I do hope they add a permanent in-store grocery or gas category to their cards, but the 5x bonus period on the freedom cards is a decent start. Side note: I loved the thumbnail for this one. I have a question, how should we apply for them? I currently have only the unlimited one. 6 months since I got it and started my credit history. Should I go for the Preferred first and then the flex? or how does it work, I haven't found any clear info on it, they basically just say: Go for it, good luck on approval.

@@jorgeloco The order in which you apply isn't critical by any means. You also don't have to add all 3 if you don't want to. The term "Chase Trifecta" is something that's thrown around a lot and may make you think there's a perfect way to create the setup, but at the end of the day the trifecta can be made up of any 3 chase ultimate reward point earning cards, and you don't even need all 3. A Chase duo could serve you just as well. The main thing to keep in mind is the Chase 5/24 rule. On top of that, there are other things to note such as the fact that the CSP has a minimum credit limit of $5k, so if your other cards have much lower limits, you may want to wait a bit before applying. However, you don't have to by any means. At the end of the day though you don't have to think about it too much. Just go for the cards that make sense for you and ensure you're eligible for them by being under 5/24 before applying.

Thanks for this video. This was very helpful! Though, FYI, currently Chase has an offer where if you open a Sapphire Preferred in-branch, you can get 90k points instead of 60k, which I just got. (80k for $4,000 in the first 3 months and +10k after $6,000 in the same time. I probably won't get the 90k, but +80k for the same amount is a good offer.)

My alternate of the Trifecta is swapping the CFU for the C1VX. Obviously very different cards, but the VX has 2x on all purchases as its base and although I think chase points are worth more than Venture miles, I want to have a few more transfer partner options. Also the VX pays you $5 per year have have it with the credits so its an easy justification.

Gonna have to wait a year to get under 5/24, but I definitely want to run this. Tbh I have a lot of cards at the moment, all cash back and very specialized for certain spends. Often times I find myself annoyed that I have to make sure I am using the right card out of a bunch of cards to maximize the cash back %. For me at least I would rather run three cards and get respectable returns that aren’t fully maximized but isn’t such a chore lol. More aspirational rewards like travel appeal to me as well because cash back is quite boring imo.

I’m fairly certain you can’t, the points are tied to the cardholder. For travel though you could book flights with points and then your partner books the hotel! But you bring up a good point, I’ve wondered this as well. Say you and your partner have enough points to pay for 3 nights each at a given hotel. It would be pretty annoying to make one booking for nights 1 thru 3, check out at the “end of the stay” and then check back in for nights 4-6. Now that I think about it, if you transfer out to hotel partners, I wonder if you could transfer to the same account and combine points that way. 🤔

Chase Trifecta vs Capital One Duo, which one is better in your opinion and why?

As always, my answer is that it depends on the person! For me I really like Chase because of the low annual fees, high sign up bonuses, and ability to transfer to Hyatt. For other people C1 is better because they have more better spending multipliers (2x on everything with the VX, 3x on groceries, dining, streaming, and entertainment with S1) and they have some great airline partners. Personally I think a mix of the 2 is best. Getting the Chase Trifecta plus C1 VX is what I plan to do to have many options with my points!

So I've been looking at the travel protection benefits on different cards and as someone who is looking to travel, take pricey cruises etc....... Isn't that travel protection worth the card's annual fee in and of itself? The travel insurance they offer through a cruise line is hundreds of dollars per person. if you are 1/24 you can easily get the CSP .. I just recently got the CFU in Feb. and 29 days later got the CSP .. 2/30 seems to be a soft rule . but to be safe from getting shut down stay within 2/6 or 4/12 .. typically a new card every 3+ months or longer to stay safe.

Both are better than 30% or much high utilization, but 1% or low percentages tend to be best in my experience. Shows usage of credit while still not overusing that credit. Important to pay off in full regardless of utilization once the statement closes and before the payment due date every month. Thanks for watching!

After getting the first card, how long should you wait to get the second? And third?

Typically waiting 3-6 months between any credit card applications is best. I personally got the old version of the Freedom Flex first, then 1 year later I got the Sapphire Preferred, and then about 2 months later I got the Freedom Unlimited. So there is no exact rule, it all depends on your situation (but I think it's a good idea to take it slow which is why 3-6 months between cards is a good rule to have).

I think waiting 3-6 months between cards is a good target to aim for. Make sure to build in enough time to hit minimum spends for sign up bonuses as well!

Hi guys, I am now clear as to why should I spend any $ on Freedom Unlimited when I can put that spend on Sapphire Preferred and get points. Can someone please explain? thanks

Are you able to receive both sign up bonus of the freedom cards with in the first year?

you say you can only hold the Reserve or Preferred card, but I have both.

Traditionally it’s only one card or the other, but I’ve heard of some workarounds in certain cases. How did you get both? And do you feel like you get enough value from both to keep them?
