Those tea or coffee packets is something really unique to Singapore. 🤣 it’s so common and second nature to us that we don’t even realise foreigners find it funny. Anyway it’s best used for iced drinks. Sometimes they pour hot coffee into those bags too and it just annoys me when they do that.

Bugis street is named after the Bugis merchants from Indonesia who gathered there to sell their wares. Later, it was a site for transvesites who gathered there to entertain G.I. on RnR from the Vietnam War. Singapore is not sterile like many people from the West believe.
@s_shaleh2 ай бұрын
Oh come on. That's ancient history. There are no more transvestite hookers peddling themselves there. And if you wanna talk about the sex trade, it is one of the oldest trades in the world and it's very much ubiquitous. You'll find them anywhere in the world.

Chase is correct, it is "funny" that the bars are there. There are some in the local Muslim community that are trying to reverse that and bring back more of the way the Muslim quarter used to be.
@s_shaleh2 ай бұрын
They are a bit farther away from the mosque and Muslim cafes/restaurants and shopping belt and quite concealed from public view. They are geared towards tourists and non-muslim customers anyway. Obviously if they were directly in front of the mosque then I would take issue with it. Malaysia is a Muslim country and look at KL. Living in a multi-racial/cultural country, you have to kinda compromise and learn to share your space with others.

Guys, It is helpful to do some research before going to another country. Singapore is multi racial society. The streets shops/restaurants (you are in) is more touristy cater for shopping and leisure. They do have a freedom to sell what they want commercially. But restaurants who sell alcohol do need a licence and have time restrictions. General there are halal and non halal restaurants to cater for the general public througout Singapore.. Lastly just a breakdown for easier pronouncing (Bugis) is called "Bull - Geese" (only by sound).... Enjoy your stay.

xD Gotta admit even as a local, Once you buy one and get lost in the stores you walk out and come away thinking "What the hell just happened." You buy food, Finish it, Go to stores, buy something, Come out "Hey im hungry again" And the cycle Repeats. And be careful of the curries. Once you try one, And then another.. And another. Everyones curry is different yet similar. But distinct. You can go on a bit of a 'curry tour' if you dig in enough. xD
