And we are all reminded again why Brian is there, as someone who tears down old stuff and tries to put it back together for a living, I respect his ability to work backwards from a symptom to diagnose the problem, difference between a band aid fix and a permanent one. Hats off everyone.

my dude, it's a gamble with any second hand bike. hell, it's better you found it than having it seize 3 weeks down the line. it's a chance to learn, and the next time you can factor it in to the considerations with the next wrecked bike. I personally don't care if it goes a couple of episodes over, but I understand the legal side can be an issue. don't give up, small hickup in the grand scheme of things, and when it goes back together, you know, 100%, that the motor is a minter. loving the series, keep it up

That was maybe the best episode of WBR I’ve ever watched. Great example of how quickly things can go from routine maintenance to “tear it all apart!”

Honestly, thank God you had the Brain over there to know to dive that deep. Progressive damage is a huge issue that DIY-ers (and even some techs) don't know the signs for. Once he said that the clutch was burned up and there were flakes in the housing, I knew it had to come apart. I'd cut the filter open (they make a special tool for that so you don't get shavings everywhere) and look inside to check out the media. If the paper didn't have anything go through it then you should be good. It couldn't hurt to check the rod bearings to make sure that there's no scoring.

I am beyond WTF! as to how that clutch got that destroyed and how it's possible to happen fast enough where the previous owner wouldn't notice unless it happened in the crash. I love working on engines and this was very very nice and calming to watch but I have never seen a clutch pack that obliterated in my life. I am also quite surprised that this ended up needing to be done with the truthfully light amount of damage done to the bike from the accident, but I can't wait to see more work on the engine as well as the continuation of this amazing build process. Love your work, love the camera work by Luke, and absolutely love the amount of knowledge, experience, and laughter that Brian brings to the episodes!!

I'm not surprised. I've been rebuilding and modifying used or wrecked bikes for years and there's always something. I think used bike rebuild is a better way to go than wrecked bikes allthough no guarantee but you could get something nice with minimal issues if any.

This is has happened to me as well. Thinking the engine needs something relatively minor, next thing I know I had to tear down the whole engine to fix the problem. Thank God ive only had to do it once. But it was a learning experience for sure.

Here's an idea for next season. Do a complete tear down of an engine and have Brian explain the steps. That's not only a goldmine of useful educational content that people actually want to see, but it's giving back to the moto community via some education. You could have broken this episode into 10 extra ones with explanation from Brian and I am sure nobody would be complaining. Just some food for thought for the next season.

Just ensure regular oil changes and correct lever adjustment to prevent unwanted dragging/slipping causing early wear. If you want to be pedantic maybe every 12-15000miles or so have a look inside and check the friction&steel plates etc.

As a V Star 1300 owner I was cringing during most of this video. Kills me how people abuse and neglect their bikes and are usually the first to say its a POS. I am no where near Brian’s level of expertise but I am meticulous about maintenance and keeping my bikes clean. That and always having some tools and tire repair kit just makes sense to me. Glad this bike is getting a second chance. Nice work gentlemen.
