Got this for my first bike experience a couple months ago and no regrets. VERY fun and VERY good for beginners. Lots of fundamentals to learn and build upon. I’m 5’8 and 32 inseam and my ankle/calf is feeling a bit cramped. No windshield so expect lots of buffeting at higher speeds. Engine revs high almost always, so long freeway rides get buzzy and feel “labored” on the engine. 80 MPH = 8500-8600 RPM. Light weight. Forgiving throttle. Good torque/power response. About 54 MPG. Not meant for full tuck, more 3/4 and upright sit stance. Priced VERY competitively at less than $5k, and you get a lot for what you pay for. More of a short sprinter as opposed to cruising and long touring. Expect to shift A LOT as the gearing is super short 5th and 6th are pretty much overdrive. Nimble, fun, economical, and FUNNNNN

@grumpysquid2 жыл бұрын
@@MonSterAAdict I’ve done a few essential mods since I posted my review. Ask any questions you want. My opinion hasn’t changed. Superb bike. I also compared it directly to the Ninja 400. My research in that bike resulted in these findings: cons include some kind of quirk or issue involving the transmission (forget the specifics), higher price tag, possible higher insurance due to more power, more commonly seen on the road than the MT-03. Pros: higher power, more aftermarket parts than MT-03, some cosmetics I liked on the instrument gauge design.
@grumpysquid2 жыл бұрын
@@MonSterAAdict getting the Norton motorsports R3 seat (about $180) raised my sitting Position by about 1.5”, enough to completely eliminate the slight cramped space at my ankles, as well as comfort level increased by at least 50%! Installed a sports style Puig windscreen to mitigate some of the wind Buffetting at speed. A stock ECU flash by 2Wheel Dynoworks was a tremendous benefit (about $130 I think, check their site), smoothing out the throttle and even increasing felt power and throttle response. This was at the cost of about 8 MPG but was totally worth it.

Just picked up a 2021 model, absolutely agree on the initial bite of the engine braking. you need to release the clutch slower than on other bikes. the throttle indeed has a long travel, that makes it really great for beginner riders. things i hate on the cockpit: the indicator is really squishy and lack response, you don't really know if you engaged or disengaged the indicators. the horn button is also too far away, Honda's horn switch is better positioned. the clutch lever also sweeps out too much, the angle needs to be more parallel with the handle

I had a Yamaha YZF-R1M (2019) and bought a KTM 390 Adventure, that became my city bike, a light touring bike, and a gateway into dirt bikes/enduro riding. WHen I bought my KTM 350 EXC-F Dual-sport/Enduro bike, I couldn't sell my 390. SInce I got a Triumph Speed Triple RR, and (GOregeous bike) and got Honda CRF450RL DS/Enduro bike still, but I tend to often get on teh 390 Adv. to go do stuff around town, and even onthe highway (I do have some mods on it, DIfferent footpegs similar to the 890 Adv. Rally, which let you stand up better, riser for the handlebars, a more confy seat, and a talish screen for whe I go on highway. NOt crazy expensive, simple mods, and that bike is Great for both city driving, highway touring (I've been on it in a 9 hour drive to to a cabin, where I was then able to rip on dirt roads and rought rails). SO, Yeah, having 300-400cc bike is great as second bike. SPeed Triple RR has cruise control, and can be okay on touring, but the RS wouldhave been better for that, THe CRF450 is not great on roads (barely does okay on the 15 minute from my how to the mountain trails), so the 390 is a great all rounder, great torquey motor, Fun ride! :) I'd see how MT-03/z400/390 Duke would be the same. For a while I was looking at XSR900, and thought, Maybe I'd get an R3 to have as a track bike, canyon carver :) (But I couldn't decide between XRS and MT-09, ended up with Speed Triple 1200 RR)

True, it's a nice bike for cruising around the city/suburbs and taking in the scenery where you ride.... I had my stint with rally cars (I went fast as the wind can carry you), I've had my stint with bikes to the extend that you turn the disks into frying pans.... I'm going to buy this one and enjoy riding slow and being able to look around at everything and enjoy the feeling of being free without the hassle of wondering if you're asking for too much "divine intervention" (because let's face it, even the greats crash from time to time). And who said that 42 hp are not enough, if you're going by the book (law), you're already having a too fast bike in most cases. 6 seconds to 60 miles is quite fast for road scenarios.

The fact that you hit 100mph on the MT-03 tells me that not only is the engine tuned the same as the R3, but the transmission gearing and sprockets are identical. Honda has 4 bikes in their US line up in the 300-class, CBR300R, CB300R, Rebel 300, and the CRF300L, 5 bikes if you count the CRF300L Rally as being a different bike from the non-Rally version even though the only real differences are cosmetic. All are fitted with the same 286cc thumper and the tuning and gearing on 1 is different from the other 3 using the same motor.

If you want to make a comparison and understand how powerful the engine is and how it translates on the road, its like a er5 but lighter and a redline to 12,5k with minimal vibrations.

I bought this as a first bike with 0 experience and I am at about 1000 miles now and it is a blast man. This bike gives you tons of confidence quick. All the mods Chase said I have done and it's amazing!

While the engine has never been as exciting as any "CP" branded engine, I like how nimble this bike is, and how easy it is to just jump on and ride. The looks are also... more "conventional" than the rest of the lineup too. I have not lived with the bike but had a friend who jumped from MT-03 to MT-07 and said that they have very close fuel economy which is a bit questionable. How is the fuel consumption of this bike compared to Z400 or CB500F?

Strongly considering getting this as a first bike, big thing holding me back is I'm 6'2" and worried that even with aftermarket changes it still won't be as comfortable as other options

In indonesia yamaha put out mt155cc, mt250cc, and the xsr series also got 155cc, well because in indonesia 150cc bike have a huge market and sell like hot cake

Yamaha is a budget brand in the US where they don't skimp on quality and performance given the requirements of the consumers unlike Honda. But here in India, they're doing the complete opposite by positioning themselves as a premium manufacturer from Japan and selling us overpriced bikes with dated technologies. Their international budget line up of bikes are sold in India without USD forks or alluminium swingarm and single channel ABS. Plastic quality has taken a dip years ago and rust from parts are a common affair. Imagine a R series or an MT series with Upright telescopic forks, a box section swingarm and a single channel ABS, well that is what we Indians are being served. But I guess, our excise duty and tax structure is the one to blame as well, but I must say the Indian manufacturers like TV'S and Bajaj (a shareholder in KTM) are doing a bang on job of providing quality bikes as of recently.

ok had a Kawasaki 250r for about 4 years and i loved that bike. Yes it wasn't the fastest but like you said I could ride every gear. I rode with 600s and 1000s and kept up just fine in the canyons. I have a zx6-R now and don't get me wrong freaking love this bike. but I don't think Ive been in the six gear more than a handful of times and that was only because it was an accident. The saying I like to say is better to ride a slow bike fast then a fast bike slow. Love the video and the WBR!!

Maybe on the MT-03, MT = "Mini-Torque"? MT-03, MT-03, and MT-10, get them all and you have the CP2, CP3, and CP4 :) Nice dream, right? (Though I'd do R3, XRS900, and MT-10, though I wish T Here was an XRS version of the CP4...I love the re-designed or 2nd gen XRS900... WHAT A LOOKER!

I am seriously considering this bike (2021 year model) for my commuter, which is only about 7 miles round trip to campus and back each day (I'm a teacher). Still I think it would be fun and practical. I am 6' tall, but with a 32" inseam I've sat on one and feel comfortable. So, yes. I'm seriously considering it. It's a sweet looking bike too. As a side note, I grew up around "Harley people" so this is going to be interesting LOL!!
