A couple tips / Tip#1 : Strap your clutch lever to the handlebar, this spreads the clutch plates apart, and helps to get all the oil out. Tip#2 : Make a slide out of tin foil to cover your pipes with, this will stop the oil from dripping all over your pipes, when removing the oil filter. Tip#3 : Fill the new oil filter up with oil, before installing.

If anything more oil doesn’t make it out with clutch lever pulled. When the clutch plates are touching there’s almost no oil in between them
@loki887
@loki887 3 жыл бұрын
In regards to the clutch plates, you can give the lever a couple squeezes once most of the oil is drained, if you're really worried about that. Kinda an unnecessary step though. Same for pre-filling the filter. It doesn't hurt to do it, but it ain't super necessary.

So many face palm moments.. but please take note of what many have said - put some form of catch when removing the oil filter - lubing your seals are good thing to do (just a little dab will do ya.. that little trust but verify goes away when you do it) - crush washer replace for the drain plug - Fill the filter with a little oil (if you can) - if wet clutch pull it in to help get more oil out - and personally try to catch the drain plug instead of fishing for it and then having to clean that as well. Yes I do my own oil, and Yes you should totally keep doing your own and as many jobs you can do. cheers.

Chase by my calculations you short changed the amount of oil you should have put in by 116ml which is why the level looked too low. Those bottles held a quart each which is only 946ml so the total you put in is 3784ml plus the 200ml for the filter = 3.984 litres. 116ml short. Manufacturers prefer the at rest oil level to be close the the upper level. Better put some more oil in Chase.
@ohiobob7852
@ohiobob7852 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed...I was like "wait a minute", he read the manual stating 4.1 liters, right? Then he stated it only needed 4 bottles, but those are 1 quart bottles (aka 946ml), so he was short. However, I did like he statement about not dying watching his videos. LOL

If I had a motorcycle, yes I would change the oil myself. On my car however, no I don't do it myself. If I had a lift I probably would but that's way out of my budget. Also it barely costs me anything to have someone else do it. By the time I buy the oil, filter, crush washer and tube of grease it's $40. To have it done for me is $49 and I don't have to crawl around on the ground. Plus I often get coupons for $10 off my oil change so that makes having someone else do it free.

The oil bottles you used had 946ml in each not 1 litre, if you rest one upright you will see the level will be short of the litre mark, you have put 946ml x 4 + 100ml = 3884ml. That's why you are towards the middle of the scale. You are short of 216ml. Not a problem for now but you will be below the minimum before your next service interval 👌🏼

If your gonna show how to do something please learn how to do it right, warm up engine, remove fill pug, put pan under belly pan, use aluminum foil or something else to stop oil from spilling on your headers (exhaust), remove drain plug, remove oil filter, clean area where drain plug sits, reinstall drain plug to torque spec, apply new oil to gasket on filter I also prefer to fill oil filter with oil let it soak in then add a bit more, clean area where filter sits, reinstall oil filter with a proper filter cup and torque to spec, fill oil very close to amount needed, put back filler plug, start engine 1 min, let sit couple of mins recheck level add oil if necessary, make sure no oil spilled has touched the tires, make sure oil filter seal is good and drain plug crush washer is sealed good wth no drips after it has been cleaned. Go for a ride remember to check your engine oil level the next day when engine is cold because some bikes level can change when oil has settled. It is one thing to do how to videos just remember to show the safest way it should be done so newbies do it right and don’t end up crashing there first bike from oil leaks. I know you asked Chase, but as a person who recently went from a 400 to a 600, then to a 900 before going back to a 700, it greatly depends on which bike you're looking at. Sport bikes, naked bikes, cruisers, and dual sports all make power a lot differently. While someone may be able to handle an 1100 CC cruiser, a 600cc sport bike may be too much for them.

@@sebastiandalessandro5745 well coming off a twin, it would probably be a similar power curve that you're used to, just like times 100. Inline 4, but super low end torque. If you can, ride one before you buy. See if you can check a demo day near or maybe rent one just to see if you like how much power it hits you with all at once. Power modes will help, but you wouldn't want to be stuck with something that's going to freak you out and cause an accident since you're going from 21ish HP to 158 HP. BIG change. Even though you can limit with rider modes and traction control will help keep the front wheel down, that's a hell of a commitment for something you actually may not like.

I dont think you need a service manual to figure out how much oil to put in a motorcycle. He's done how many wrecked bike rebuilds now and he doesn't know how to change oil? I'd just get a dealer to do the first one anyways

Why pay the dealer, you can and will probably do a better more careful job. :)

Always get the oem service manual not haynes or other. I always change the oil on a new bike within the first 100 miles then at 500 or 600 miles. Lots of metal "shaving/flakes" coming out in the first one. Like others said lubricate your 0 ring..

Ice cold oil changes are better because the oil has all drained to the bottom of the engine and when you pull the plug 99.9% comes out in 5min. Hot oil gets sloshed all throughout the engine and isn’t sitting in the oil pan and most people don’t wait long enough to wait for all the oil to drain and leave some dirty oil in the engine. Hot sounds good but cold is better

Adventure, on my 05 VMAX, 36,000 miles, I only drive on paved roads and never in rain and I have never had to change my air filter, take it out, shake it off, all good. Once a year.

don't just dump the oil amount in by what the book says, so many reasons why oil doesn't all come out. With a sight glass is so easy, keep pouring until you're at the full mark, start the bike, fill it back up again if needed. Also, oil colour is no longer an indication of oil "gone bad", good modern synthetic oil is designed to clean off and suspend gunk in the oil, having dark oil does not mean the oil is bad it just means it's doing its job of keeping soot off of your parts.

Sorry, but it is just tough to watch Chase work on bikes because it is just so cringy. After all the WBRs he just approaches everything sounding and looking clueless. As far as any wrenching I wish Chase would just film Brian and not try to do any work himself.
