I went with the Pace 2. I’ve been comparing watches like a maniac since I lost my Garmin FR310XT. I been using my iPhone and Polar H10 and various apps for a couple of years now and feel it’s time to go light and comfortable. I have never followed a predefined training schedule, it’s just not for me, I need a quick and easy way to create my own workouts, I found that in the COROS app. I probably still use my pulse strap during any pulse based workout if the accuracy of sensor on the watch isn’t good enough. It seems like no brand has cracked the code regarding recovery and sleep metrics. It’s just not good enough yet.

Got coros pace 2. it's amazing! i can connect my power meters, HR strap etc via bluetooth,ant+. aside from that you can monitor your performance data by evo lab, one of the amazing feature as well is the running power and cadence which is close with the stryd accesorries data accuracy. advantage as well is the triathlon mode and multisport mode which is very beneficial for triathletes who is looking for budgget friendly tri watch. overall im satisfied.

Amazing comparison. I paddle in buenos aires, argentina. Flatwater and canoe marathon. Recently lost my forerunner 630 with a wave in the river. I came from garmin enviroment but didn´t use the app so much. Forerunner 220, 35 and then 630 (solid except the touchscree wich is awfull with water). I will give a try to the Coros Pace 2, screen size, 6 fields of information, easier, no fancy extra stuff and battery. Hope i don´t loose this one in the river. Thanks a lot from Argentina

Excellent, really useful. Currently thinking of upgrading from my FR45, which I'm pretty happy with - appreciate your comment about sticking with the ecosystem you're in, but I only use a small part of that ecosystem. I generally just use Strava for any (basic) run analysis, and I like the look of the Coros...

@@ChaseTheSummit was just watching this again, still got my FR45 :) One thing I would have found useful is mentioning how easy (or otherwise) it is to upload your activities to Strava. I did actually buy an Honor GS3 smartwatch a few months ago - I've got an Honor phone, and the watch was on offer at under £100, compared to £149 for the FR55 on Amazon currently. It was very nice, but you simply couldn't upload to Strava, so I returned it. Strava integration makes changing ecosystems less of an issue - I can compare runs recorded with my TomTom Runner with Garmin ones. I won't buy a watch that doesn't support it; I know Garmins do, and Google tells me that Coros do also.

I love my Pace 2 and would not change it for any other watch! It is lightweight, it catches GPS signal so quickly, it measures my heart rate in the water without a problem and the interface is very intuitive. @ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, there's no altimeter on the Forerunner 55 so the elevation data that's shown on Strava/Garmin Connect is derived from GPS topological data rather than a real barometric reading. Not a huge deal but it also means that you can't view your elevation in real time during an activity.

Yeah I totally think the Coros will be my next choice. I have used an Apple Watch series 3 for the last few years and pretty loyal to the brand but since they’ve not updated any of the WatchOS to accommodate for track and interval workouts, plus the shorter battery life makes me want to switch. Despite having the convenience of cellular call capabilities and Apple’s native UI. I just think I need a more dynamic running/tri watch.

Amazing points Dave. As I mentioned in your comments before, I struggle with what I really need and what I’m looking for in a watch. This is a great comparison. I actually purchased and tested out a Pace 2 and was generally impressed. I think I had issues with the HR on mine not being as responsive (coming from an AWS 6) but other than that, I liked it. The main reason I returned it was to see what Garmin had up its sleeve. However, now I’m wondering if the best bet is the Pace 2. I generally like Coros and feel like they’re good competition for Garmin. They really seem to be pushing the envelope with what is crammed into their watches. At $200 bucks, I don’t have a hard time pulling out the Pace 2 occasionally for longer runs and metrics, and using it side by side with my AW. It’s harder to stomach paying $650 for a 945 LTE and letting my AW (or forerunner) sit on the night stand. $200 for the feature set feels like the compromise!
@ZeRo-22-
@ZeRo-22- 3 жыл бұрын
@La Paz sure, the AW was rating my heart rate at a steady, comfortable pace at around 140-145. The Pace 2 would jump from 160, to 155, and then down to 145 in a more sporadic manner. I didn’t compare to a HR strap but trusted how I felt during the run, and 160 was definitely far too high. It would sometimes sit at 165 during a more relaxed pace, before settling into the 135 range (which felt correct) and also matched my Apple Watch. It just seems to me the HR sensor isn’t quite as high quality as some of the other offerings. Dave can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe he also experienced this as well. In terms of sampling, I believe on the Pace 2 is every 5 minutes (maybe more?) when not in an activity, and every second during (again, correct me if I’m wrong). AW has always handled it the best, though my understanding is the new Elevate 4.0 Garmin sensors surpass it.
@ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. I think the Pace 2 is hard to beat for the money if you're just looking for a solid sports watch. There are better options out there for "smart watches" but for raw activity tracking the Pace 2 is great at $200!

Great video, thank you! I've been wanting to update my Vivoactive 3 to something that is a bit more geared to new runners. Even though I like Garmin , I'm leaning towards the Pace 2. The 55 was my initial choice but I really don't like the thick bezel's; I would assume more screen would make it a bit easier to read over the 55. I also find that although you can customize strength training on the Garmin (exercise type, sets, reps, etc), I find it pretty cumbersome to setup. I like the looks of the Pace 2 with the body heat map in the app and I'm hoping it does a bit better job when customizing strength training. Question, how is phone connectivity with the Pace 2? Lately when I go to sync my data between my Vivoactive 3 and my iphone, the Garmin app says the watch is not connected but my bluetooth connect says it is. It doesn't happen very often and it seems to fix itself pretty quickly, but it happens enough to be annoying (but not a deal breaker). Does the Pace 2 have any issues connecting, or staying connected to an iphone? Thanks in advance!
@ChaseTheSummit
@ChaseTheSummit 3 жыл бұрын
The connectivity between the Pace 2 and iPhone is quite good. I find that after I finish an activity wearing both a Garmin and COROS device the COROS tends to sync quicker and upload to Strava. I find your 20min "bla-bla-ing" 😉 very informative and neutral for the 2 watches. I've made my choice so it's Coros. My 1st watch, sports dedicated (having just a 'casual' one from Samsung). What I like? Big screen (no wasted space for bezel), battery life. And the crown doesn't bother me at all. What could better? Actually, I look for the future so we could shift & rotate the screen to the wrist inner side (for better viewing) or... having it attached elsewhere like a sticker... 😎 (winter friendly feature) Well, that will be my next watch. Hello! I just bought the Forerunner 55 last week and am getting used to all the features. Never had one of these fancy watches before, so it seems to be a good introduction to how such a watch works with the phone interface, Garmin Connect and the ConnectIQ Store. The biggest con so far for me is the low-lit display lighting. I want to be able to look at my watch and clearly see the time in a quick glance (as I've done with every single other watch all my life), and not have to hit the light button on the top left Every. Single. Time. For that alone, I wouldn't recommend this watch to anyone else. I do appreciate some of the fitness/wellness features though, some of which are helping me exercise a bit more consistently. So I'll keep using this watch for a while (to get my money's worth!!) and then upgrade to a fully featured watch with a brighter display. Thanks for your reviews!

If you go into your system settings you can change the backlight during an activity and not during an activity to either to have no time out for the light and also to put the gesture on which means if you shake your arm turn your arm like you're going to look at the watch the light will come back on automatically
@chriskelley7097
@chriskelley7097 2 жыл бұрын
You have to remember that brighter lighting takes a lot of battery. So if you look at watches with brighter displays, you are going to need to charge the watch more often. I think the longer battery is worth the slightly harder to see screen in bright lighting. The apple smart watch for example, people need to charge that thing every single day.

Can either of these do that without me having to repeatedly press buttons etc every time i want to see my instantaneous HR as reported from the strap? Is there a series of display choices that allows me to add in time (1/3 & 2/3 or 50:50 screen) or elapsed time or average HR (user selectable averaging interval)? Do either product allow the transfer of the data from the watch to the computer without a web based account that has the potential to compromise my personal and location data? I wonder if that would help with data, not having a trail run feature on the pace 2.
