As a Newquay local, 17:00 that guy is paddling into the harbour - some people get in/out there instead of on the beach front. And Kale, fistral is a typical beachie - if you want to surf better waves in Cornwall next time head to somewhere like Porthleven which is a far more advanced spot with barrels when conditions are right. Recommend checking some footage out on YT. It is deeper in the south but 100% worth the trip if it is on - beautiful down there too.

Great to see you in Cornwall bro in my home! Super interesting hearing your take on the waves, it for sure gets good, but I have noticed the more time I spend away surfing waves in the tropics etc, every time I come back I feel I can't surf fat conditions like these same as you said...twinnys I guess bro. The banks play SUCH a huge role in the waves for us like any beachy, combined with massive tides and relentless W/SW winds, just gotta find the right banks and tides....plenty more spots outside Newquay bro...give it another shot 😝

As an expat living in WA from North Devon. It was so refreshing to watch this. I think what you described is the wave speed is slower compared to AUS. Literally waves roll into the beach slower so you’re surfing has to slow down in part. It looked like you were rushing everything and missing the power section of the wave. I had major trouble picking stepping up the pace when I first came to WA, AUS. Regardless great episode and happy travels!

this vid is so relatable. moved to newqay from cali and honestly after surfing fistral it made HB feel like a wave pool, but otherwise still had some of my best waves at fistral on the bigger days. other than north\south fistral i would check out a wave called little fistral at the far northern end of fistral beach on a low tide, there’s a dreamy little right hander there and sometimes there’s no one out lol, i would also check out gwithian & porthmeor, but thx for visiting

Nice perspectives. I found the same surfing in Wales, felt like a total kook at first. Then came home to SA and surfed Day Street to remember I could actually surf. Led to a nice learning curve and actually made me a better surfer and person for it. The amount of water moving from those 8-10m tides is crazy! The connection to history is nice and I always thought it was so lacking in Australia. It's charming at the start but after living in central/eastern Europe it becomes quite limiting to progress and mindset. Interesting!

Leaving my birthplace of Hawaii for an extended non surfing trip (2 months)to London was worry some because I knew my gills would dry up. Unexpectedly, I enjoyed 14 days of London so much. Probably the international capital of the world. Then my paid botanical tour of the countryside for 6 weeks. I surf Newquay a lot it has some of the best waves in the UK from what I have experienced. If you want barrels check out Lynmouth, but only works when the swell it's absolutely mad everywhere else. Used to be a secret spot, but now when it's good it's one of the most packed line ups

I think what you have shown here is very representitive of the south west. A lot of this slopey wave scenario is due to the big tide range. There are of course better spots, but fistral is a safe bet to get something average most days. Longboards and quad fishes are a must for the uk though.

Ah, mate. Definitely hit up some locals of youre ever in Newquay again. We'd be happy to give you a heads up on the better spots around. Depending on the tide there woulda been some firing wedges just around the corner. Cornwall spots shift about sooo much woth the tide, so you really gotta know what all the banks are doing to properly score. Fistral anything but dead low in the north corner is fat mush. Within a 5 minute drive, however, wedges and barrels galore!

@KalesBroccoli you have 1/2h windows, and every spot is different. Usually wana get in before it's good, and surf through the good bank (when you know there's one there). Give newquay boardriders a shout when you're next in town, they'll hook you up (especially if you take out some groms and give them a few tips). Gotta come back for a rebate mate!

Kale, you were staying about 5mins from where I live! Hilarious!! UK waves are about half the power for the size of an equivalent wave in the Pacific. I spent 3 years living on the E coast of Japan and then moved to Australia for a period so have experienced this first hand. SW France benefits from an ocean trench that funnels and concentrates swell giving it more punch . That’s why your FT felt underwhelming in Cornwall.

1st world problems Classic!!! Cornwall is a Peninsula with 270 degree swell window just hitting Newquay isnt' the full story, but yeah you probably need a bit more volume & adjusted expectations.

Saw your video where the Local kicked the board at you, it happens quite regularly here. But having lived in the UK for 32 years, I needed to get out to the Hot weather.

Hi Kale, My surf spot is Del Mar, CA in San Diego. This virtual thing is so cool that I feel like I know you, but I don’t really. Look me up if you’re ever here in San Diego. Oh yeah, and I’d love it if you could use my music sometime in your videos. If that happened, I would know that I made it.😅 Yew!

@ don’t worry about it bruv. It’s not happening anyway. They change the report. I’m glad of it because I was close to slap tearing my right shoulder again. Surely there must be something for wing scapulars following a surgery without paying 500 quid to move you.???
