Back in the 70's I rode a "Fat Albert" 5'11" by John Arnold in Sth. Aust. a cheap "Pop out" single fin and seriously that thing could take on anything regardless of size and it would never let go and it was because of the deep flexible single fin which would hold it in the wave flex as you hit the bottom and it would send you right back up to the top with so much force you were vertical against the wave, magic board, I was young and a lot better surfer than I am now and I have had some very fond memories of that board, just wish I looked after it better, I also liked Gravelles tear drop shape, had one years ago really nice board, could really throw it around, so, I think alot of these boards are personal choice, if it works for you , it works for you, regardless of shape.

I paused it on 7:42 to go get a coffee and came back and was shocked at how critical that turn is on a mid length, like properly on rail, don't think real time does that turn justice. Fair play. I'm 44 and not ready to accept the mid length story yet. I only started surfing 6 years ago at 38 so my whole goal was to be on a HPSB and surfing in the pocket as long as I can. Then the performance mid length will be the go to in a few years I'm sure haha

Great board, great final concept. I realized 30 years ago, the best board for Kelly or Rob Machado isn't the best board for 95% of the other surfers on the planet. Since my airs didn't ever include full rotations, the best board was different for me, too. If you're doing full rotation airs, a pro-tour style tri is the go-to for a reason. Otherwise, I can do straight airs, reverses and carving 360s on a 6' 5" quad. So why sacrifice the massive loss in paddle power? If you're thinking of grinding it out on the qs? Good luck, go get 'em! Otherwise a board like this is for the 95% that you might find yourself in, like me. Best thing you could ride. (Twins are faster than tris, too.)

Nice looking board, but, tighter turning on a twin pin??? Don't think so. Might feel that way to you, doesn't show in your surfing or anyone else's I've ever seen. Tri's and some quads just pivot harder and hold more speed through on rail turns. That's why no pro's ride em for performance surfing....Twins especially pins have a wonderful " free" and fast soul surfing feel that is awesome and pretty addicting which can be great for people wanting to try something new, learning to surf, or transitioning from long boards...I love my 6'8" JS Big Baron but guess what, I never ride it anymore because I have both 6'8" and 7'0" Harley Ingleby mid 6's which I can change fins out for different conditions. Those boards seem to work best with a 2+1 set up in slower waves then when the surf gets fast, big, and juicy they go best as a tri but are faster with a quad set....
@KalesBroccoli3 күн бұрын
Some people articulate feelings differently. I've ridden those boards you mentioned, not even close to this one... in my biased opinion.
@timreck55352 күн бұрын
@@KalesBroccoli Biased is a bit of an understatement - sales being king. It does look like you dialed in the tail rocker/fin placement to improve on the effect I described above. That coupled with a wider forward template and modern rocker/concave relationships should give a board all kinds of versatility and.....speed! Feel free to send me one - wholesale- I'll do a complete write up review my new channel - hah! As soon as someone suggests, "it paddles like a longboard and surfs like a shortboard", walk away. Pure marketing gimmick. My experience tells me that rather than getting the best of both worlds you often get the worst of both.

not true once I found an twin fin egg around 6'7 and it was exactly the best of two worlds, glassy small wave cruising and solid 2m was also very stable, some boards are magic
@arrzfr3 күн бұрын
With you on the first half of your comment. NOTHING paddles like a longboard, except a longboard. You‘re not going to catch barely visible bumps or be up before a wave even forms a real face, on a midlength. However, getting the worst of both worlds is where I‘d disagree. And the reason is that a huge share of recreational surfers has fallen victim to the shortboard hype. I see this basically every day: frustrated guys flailing around on corky 5‘4s, because their timing, positioning and technique simply aren‘t spot on enough to ride tiny boards. They‘d be so much better off riding something in the mid to upper 6ft range, which is still short enough to actually turn, but at least you‘re catching waves.
@spottyone5843 күн бұрын
Wrong. Best thing I did was get a mid length for cruising and was pleasantly surprised how much it surfed like a short board. Glad I didn't "walk away"
