Get ready for an epic adventure in the stunning Superstition Mountains of Arizona! Join us on part one of our two-part series as we hike down an abandoned road and discover hidden caves, breathtaking rock formations, and picturesque creeks surrounded by stunning fall foliage. Along the way, we'll conquer challenging climbs and soak in the peaceful sounds of murmuring creeks. Don't miss out on this thrilling hiking experience through one of Arizona's most famous destinations!
Nestled in the heart of the Superstition Mountains of Arizona lies the famous Route 88, or the Apache Trail as it's locally known. This 40-mile stretch of road boasts a rich history and offers some of the most breathtaking views in the country. Originally used by the Apache tribe to traverse the rugged terrain, the road was later expanded in the early 1900s to allow for mining transportation. After severe flooding in 2019, a 5 mile unpaved section of the road was closed for public safety. As of now, the only way to see the road and get down into Fish Creek is to hike in-- but what a hike it is!
So get ready to climb, crawl and marvel at the wonders of nature in one of the most picturesque locations in Arizona. Let's hit the road together and embark on a journey filled with excitement and beauty.
Stay tuned for part two!

I went up canyon aways. So cool up there. A few boulder jams to figure out how to get through. But a fun, interesting hike. Excited to see what’s down stream from part 2.

Agreed, I really enjoyed that whole experience, including the hike down the road. I actually end up just going further upstream in part 2, but I'm thinking of heading back soon, before they start working on the road, to check out the downstream area. Thanks for the comments!

Thank you! Yes, definitely more caves in the second part. Some caves, a little climbing, maybe testing some limits, maybe getting just a little stupid...but super fun none the less!

I remember driving the entire Apache Trail all the way to Lake Roosevelt and back in the old family station wagon in the 1970s all the way up into the 2000s as an adult. Would love to see it re-opened if possible.

I read that they have the funding and will be starting the repairs, though I'm not sure when. It's going to be a real chore to clear that rock slide!

Cool video! I hope they reopen it. I drove up the other side past Tortilla Flat. Absolutely amazing views. The welded tuff reference...awesome! Subscribed.

Thank you! I read recently that they will be reopening the road, and the fact that there is actual money allotted for it makes me think it will actually happen. I can't wait to take that drive-- if the end is anything like the beginning, it has to be gorgeous!

The 88 was closed due to wildfires YEARS ago but they haven’t reopened it. Absolute shame.

I heard there is a plan to reopen it in the works, with funding this time, so it seems like it might actually happen. The road is definitely going to need some work, but seems like it would be an awesome drive when it's complete!

Maybe you can find the video for yourself he has a small dog with him and he stops on the road and has a conversation with a man that's okay with being on camera just a few feet from conversation he finds it on the right

Oh yeah in the video that I seen there was a mineshaft horizontal to the right of the road I hope you have it in part 2

What?! I didn't see a mine shaft! Well I wanted to head back soon anyway, before they start to "repair" the road. But in my defense, I did find 4 caves during my journey in the wash (in part 2).😁

@@naturallytrailheaded in the video that I watch you crossed the bridge and go down the road a Waze and you will see what looks like a bit of a Landslide he climbed up to it but he did not go inside you could clearly see that it was a man-made shaft

@LawnMower-hu9pw Nice! I got in the wash at the bridge, so next time I'll go up the road a bit and look for the tailings. Might be some cool rocks over there too!
