Thanks! I have encountered three rattlesnakes in the Peralta trail area. While all got my adrenaline up, all three lived, mainly because they gave me plenty of warning, which I greatly appreciated.

About 50 years ago I ran across a rattler on a lease road in west Texas. No rocks around, no shovel or hoe. So I got the bright idea of pouring gas on it and setting it on fire. Long story short, it tried to escape by going into the brush. Needless to say this started a brush fire. So I had to go in to put the fire out all the time knowing there was a really pissed off rattler somewhere. I put the fire out and did no get bitten.

Very informative talk Wayne, loved it! I've had many a run in with rattlesnakes in my years here in Arizona, though most have been the Western Diamondback I have had the pleasure of seeing a sidewinder, the only sidewinder I've ever seen which was out near Fort McDowell and the Verde. Found a pink Grand Canyon rattler under a rock out Wickenburg way and have also come across a couple of the beautiful black mountain diamondbacks up north, one along Lynx creek under a metal plate I turned over and one up at Horse Thief Lake near Crown King. The largest snakeI ever saw was up behind Table Mesa, the head of that sucker must have been the size of my fist! Like yourself I have been lucky and never been bit and hope never to be! Keep up the great work!!

Great video.....Out of the hundreds of miles I have hiked in my lifetime I have only come across 2 rattlesnakes. A buddy and I were hiking in the desert out here in Commifornia almost stepped on one! I saw it ahead of him... and grabbed him back before he did!

Oh, about 40 years ago, I was at a boy scout camp in California. I was just walking along one of the trails when I saw a bunch of "adults" standing around a tree with their cub scout kids. I walked up and asked what was going on. One of the kids told me that there was a nest of rattlesnakes under the tree. OK. So I told what looked like the most mature adult of the group to keep everyone away while I went and got Mr. Ranger. So, fortunately when I returned with Mr. Ranger and his shotgun, everybody was at a reasonable distance and Mr. Ranger easily took care of the problem. You don't want to have rattlesnakes and city folk hanging around together because someone will get bit. Scout camps have a lot of activity and snakes will mostly head for the tall timber, but we can't take the chance.

East TX/LA, I've had to deal with cottonmouths, copperheads, and timber rattlers all my life, but like you say, most of the time I just leave them be, unless I'm forced into a touchy situation with them. Sometimes you just can't help it, if you can't 'back out' and he's not going anywhere, then it becomes a sort of problem, but mostly they just go their own way. I just don't like being in the water with them. I don't suppose that's much of a problem though in Arizona...lol ....oh!....and King snakes are my buddies...lol

Copperheads are very prevalent in our area of Georgia, especially in the suburbs. We do have an occasional rattler, but mostly its the copperheads. It's hilarious how newbies to the 'burbs are always asking how they can get rid of copperheads and coyotes. You can't. Just learn to live with them. Very interesting video.

Who knew there were so many kinds of rattlers? Thanks, Wayne. 🐍I like and respect snakes. Live and let live. I've seen mostly big black snakes, garter snakes and water snakes that look like copperheads (the pattern) in rural areas of NJ. I'm told there are rattle snakes in the NJ forests - timber, I guess. Haven't handled any except garter. I wish Frank would not shoot them.

My son was bitten by a copperhead on the top of his foot in about five years old, doctor said that a rattlesnake a wasp cottonmouth and Copperhead was the same exact poison IDK know he was in the hospital for 3 nights swole his leg to the knee but he was fine later
@mikemcchesney25552 жыл бұрын
I have owned several Copperheads and Rattlers. Copperheads are waaaay more laid back than any of my Buzztails. The Doctor was correct with one big exception (especially in the US SouthWest): The Mojave Green Rattler! All rattlers have HEMOTOXINOUS Venom (destroys red blood cells). The Mojave Green has both HEMOTOXINOUS and NEUROTOXINOUS Venom. A bite will not only have intense swelling and turning black (HemoT) and suppression of your central nervous system (NeuroT). Never play with a rattler (dead or alive)!

Glad he recovered nicely

@@legendofthesuperstitionmou969 yes I read that later about the Mojave Rattler had both type poisons I'm am just glad that the Coral snake is not in North Mississippi where I live but my understanding is it is in south Mississippi and it has the neurotoxins but they have no fangs and have to chew it in my understanding, and my understanding is that a copperhead is unpredictable you might walk by it and it might not do anything then the next time it might strike you I've caught a couple with my bare hand , but the most vicious is the cottonmouth, I will not try to catch one of them with my bare hand, had a hognose for a pet when I was a kid really appreciate you getting back with me on that and learned a lot listening to you thanks again!

I was raised here in Tennessee, if you had black snakes on your property to leave them alone cause they would kill rattle snakes. Also, you could spread moth balls around and it would keep snakes from your house. The cucumber smell in the yard would be copperhead snakes around.
