I'm an ex skateboarder who now plays golf, just wondering if you have ever studied the mechanics behind skateboarding tricks or if you have ever had a skateborder in to work on their swing? I think there is a lot in common between the two, in terms of creating force from the ground, rotation and the fact that both golf and skateboarding are single sports that are all about repetition and consistancy. I used to be pretty good at skating, but struggle to apply the kind of ground forces I used to generate power and height in skating, to golf. I think I have so much more in the tank! Love the videos, thanks for the upload.

Your videos are top notch, great information, helps a lot teaching, thank you very much Dr.Rose! One question: do you actually also want the player to quickly stop (slamming on the brakes) the front foot after jumping and rotating created that much energy in order " to stop the handle" and get the "cracking whip " effect? I am just wondering if there is no hard stop to the rotation doesn't then the handle "go empty" and cannot get to "crack". An example would be great Fred Couples: he created a lot of rotation ( "stomping" left foot down at transition and fast hip turn) but then it looks like he completely blocks left leg and consequently arms and club head accelerate (crack) through ball contact ???

There was a move some years ago to teach the golf swing like a discus throw, but I think the golf swing also includes the spinning motion of a hammer throw in the middle of it, which is what I think you are teaching here. Is that right? Of course, Jamie is also partly left-handed from ice hockey, which may make transition to the left hard for him if he wants to move left to right.

These are the same guys who, when they started out, claimed that one needed to achieve maximum disassociation between the upper body and the lower body in the backswing for attaining maximum speed in the forward swing. Many blown out backs later, they have learned that doesn't work and, like pros knew 80 years ago, moving the knees and hips in the backswing makes achieving maximum disassociation in the forward swing easier, so take what they say with caution. Fast forward to this video, moving toward the target (shifting laterally) is not for power, but positioning, and thus accuracy. The power comes in the rotation. There are people who derive power from the lateral, but they are usually deficient in the rotation. I'm sure they'll be changing their belief system in another 5 years.

Guys. Its hard to "remind of an old motor pattern" because thats not how it works. Movements are expressions on the fly and so to do the "old motor patter" requires soft tissues that have the same space / capacity as they used to. His "old pattern" was a result of having tissues that could handle the forces of long drive, but as he moved away from that his cells have restructured and he has lost some of that capacity. He wont find his "old pattern" until he gets his cellular biology closer to where it was in 2010.

These changes should be better for his game in general, not just for long drive right?
@MyTPI6 ай бұрын
Yes and no. Some long drive techniques can be detrimental to consistency you'd need for tournament play, but some of the changes we'd discussed (e.g. a more aggressive lateral shift) would benefit him in both

Mike Austin holds the Guinness World Record for the longest drive in a professional golf tournament ( not a long drive competition) at 515 yards, which he hit on the 14th hole at the 1974 U.S. National Seniors Open in Las Vegas' Winterwood Golf course. He was 64 years old. Used an old school 46 inch steel shafted persimmon wood driver and a Balata covered ball . His only help came from a 27mph tail wind. No downhill assistance or cart path bounces. It was witnessed by people in attendance as well as the group putting on the green who watched as the ball rolled passed them and went some 65 yards past the hole. The tee to hole distance was 450 yards. Now, his swing looked nothing close to what today's long drive champions do and yet even with today's technology, very few come even close to 515 yards during long drive competitions. What did Mike know that today's science and technology can't seem to wrap it's coconut around ? He did have a PhD in Kinesiology....hmmm

It seems that your 3D swing monitor setup is outdated with so many cords hanging from all the parts of the body, isn't there wifi tech or something where you don't have all these cords attached to the sensors. Especially since you are working with elite golfers swinging so fast. As I watch the videos I just keep thinking those cords must affect the golfer, it must inhibit them a bit from really swinging at top speed.

I hope he gets back to competing Long Drive a bit soon, I'm sure when he saw the likes of Kyle Berkshire a few years ago must have surely reignited his long drive flames again Zuback tried to get back to competing as well, I think it's now all science and optimized numbers for older guys like him now and less about pure speed and violence. WLD could use former champ like him who's normal sized human to boost the interest back into the sport.

Honestly, if I were trying to improve Jaime's game, I would start by taking the driver out of his hands and seeing how he hits his wedges, short irons and pitches. My guess is he hits more short to medium pitches and chips and full shots and rarely hits a 6-7-8 iron. You see, the biggest problem I see with someone like Jaime is when he needs to hit a fairway, he just can't do it. Doesn't matter what club he chooses. in fact, I'm guessing he's worse at hitting fairways with a 4 iron than he is with a driver. He also likely hits his pitching wedge on 90% of his approach shots and doesn't realize he's doing it. 😊
