When deciding I tried the MU-X and the Holden Colorado wagon the Mitzi was far superior back then, I never tried the Fortuner almost double the price or the Ford equivalent for the same reason. I still love the PS on a long journey or around town. Most of my driving I'm in 4H as it feels more balanced and safer, especially in the wet. I only ever tow while in 4H. In fact towing in the wet in 4H I can out accelerate unloaded Ford Rangers coming out of sharp bends especially going up hill, they must wonder what's wrong with their ute. They usually roar past on the first straight to prove something.

The reason for this was this was and is I believe the only 5 seat version available. The only major items I missed getting in this spec are the auto tail gate, a Locking rear diff and the option of leather. None of these matter to me. KId's have flown the coupe. It still has all the same safety goodies. On and Off road it has to this point been an awesome vehicle, even without the rear diff lock and yes, the Superselect transmission with the option of AWD on the tarmac for those wet days is a big plus. So far I'm loving the experience.😎

Good review. I have always wanted to see how the Pajero stacks up. The Mitsu is obviously the better buy. However, I have never liked the style of this current model. The rear end just looks too awkward and not cool. Resembles a Ssangyong style trend.
@ikakau4 жыл бұрын
I looked at both models as I was looking to purchase a new vehicle, I chose the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. I have always bought Toyotas before but was disappointed with several aspects of the Fortuner. The side storage of the third row seat took up a lot of storage area and obstructed, the views out of the rear section. the third row in the Pajero folds down flat which is much more convenient and doesn't obstruct any line of sight. The Pajero Sport can be put in 4 wheel drive mode while on paved road when the conditions such as mud, rain and flooding makes its way on the road. I live in the country so this is very important. The tech in the Pajero Sport is much better overall than the Fortuner, this is both a positive and a negative as there is the possibility of having more electronics go wrong, but in this automotive day and age this may be a reality regardless of what new vehicle you own. I really hope that the next model of the Fortuner addresses these issues, but I am just one consumer and my concerns may not be the pathway for the Fortuner in the future but one can hope.

@ikakau3 жыл бұрын
@@umarasyrafu.a.6232 The Fortuner’s third row seats fold to the side and is fastened by a hook thereby limiting the useable area. The Pajero’s third row seats fold with the bottom seat folding forward and the back of the seat folding down leaving a flat large clear space. The second row seats can also be folded front to have a larger storage area, I’m not sure if the Fortuner does that. To be honest if the Toyota designed the third row storage differently it would be harder for me to make a decision on which to get as I have driven Toyota vehicles all my life.

It's interesting to see that the creature comfort lists in these ute-based SUVs hasn't changed much from a decade ago. It's mostly connectivity and active safety that has but even then, we own an R51 Nissan Pathfinder that has most of the list from both of these covered in terms of its feature set and beats them both in terms of packaging. I watched another review of the MU-X top specification as I had a keen interest in upgrading to one when we eventually want to upgrade but I was amazed that even a 2020 brand spanker that costs $60k on the road didn't have electric and heated front seats, dual zone climate, sunroof, etc and the usable space with all 7 seats in place was abysmal compared to the Pathfinder. I'm guessing with the Isuzu though you're paying more for the reliability of its drivetrain for which the reputation of the Nissan at the time was....not favourable, to put it lightly. I do eagerly await the new MU-X though because the new D-Max looks to be a great platform for it. Hopefully Mazda introduces their own version of it based on the BT-50 but I doubt they will.

Among the highly regarded prado designs, the most failed design is the seven-seat design. When people use off-road vehicles, enough space is the most important thing. Because we always need to carry enough equipment, there is absolutely no need to carry more people, so a five-seater design is sufficient. With the current seven-seater design, the third row of seats occupies a lot of space. However, this very annoying and completely useless third-row seat cannot be removed. In the past few years, I replaced two off-road vehicles. They are all seven-seater designs that I hate very much. I have never opened the third row of seats in ten years. This thing is useless.

I have a pajero sport 10 years old and it's a better vehicle than my friends fortuner of the same year,more comfy,and the ride is smoother.l never liked the earlier models Its taken years but now l feel you can trust the running gear more and the reliability.👍

Good review, pajero sport for me. Prefer interior finishes, and the drop down seats in 3rd row.

Thank you very much for this comparison, even though I find it unfair to compare 2.8 diesel engine of Fortuner versus 2.4 for the Mitsubishi Pajero. Thanks

The rear lights of Pajero have ruined it all!!! Thumbs down... They should fire the design team...

Hi Tom. I love your work. We have an quote of the fortuner (GXL + Premium Interior) a grand cheaper than the quote pajero sport exceed. We might do a bit of towing - horse float etc. What would you choose when there is virtually no price difference? Thank you!
@alexbarquin92 жыл бұрын
Just got my fortuner and loving it. For towing, I'd say more grunt is better for you and hence the fort would be your pick. On the flip side, some might say Psport's super select trany would be better for towing as it allows you to drive 4wd hi on tarmac road while the fort can't, on tarmac it's only on 2wd. All the best in choosing you next vehicle.

I own 2021 GLS PS with only 23000Kms. Sure great value, nice to drive - add a throttle controller, fully transforms the vehicle, awesome response! (I also own 2019 GLS Triton, love it). BUT I wish I waited for 2022 MUX! I traded a 2014 MUX for the Pajero, MUX started to feel like an old tractor compared to PS. I just dont like the rear seat setup in PS. We have 4 kids so use 3rd row seats all the time, they are fine to sit in but if you have child seats in middle row - attaching to the roof is not as good as MUX attaching to the rear of second row plus seat belt setup in the middle of the 2nd row is $hithouse - you have a buckle up your but! If Mitsubishi sorted this out it would be great! TOYOTA TAX - not for me...Plus the 4WD System is superior having AWD option in wet weather conditions...ISUZU just as reliable but maybe not as refined. Looking at trading PS for LST MUX. Any offers...haha

Always Mitsubishii Cars. I love Mitsubishi Cars! I used to own a Lancer, that was a dang! I am really looking for a Sedan/Hatchback from Mitsubishi in India.

I have the Cedia (2008) and the Pajero Sport (2018). Both the vehicles have never let me down in the worst of driving conditions. Sadly, the Cedia is getting a lot of attention from the police in Delhi due to the new NGT norms. Ergo, I shall have to part with it. I guess this car is the cleanest piece kept as stock in the country!

Toyota person here, but just cannot stand the Fortuner. Just not a fan. But for the first time ever, when looking for a car we also looked outside Toyota (needed 6 seats due to a new addition, and no way in hell did I want a people mover). Narrowed down to an MY14 Prado, 2018ish Pajero Sport, new Pathfinder, or a 2018-19 MU-X. Though they were all good, just the Prado and Pathfinder have cool 3rd-row additions, Prado can open the rear door from the inside, none of the others allows that, great when the 2nd row is all car seats, and the pathfinder allows 3rd-row access without folding the seat. Prado only won, because an MY14 Kakadu popped up at a price that I couldn't refuse. But if that hadn't happened, I do think the MU-X would have won, just felt as nice as the Toyota.

Great review but I missed cost to own comparison.If Fortuner sells for more as a used car proportionally to its purchase price then it will offset the 10k advantage Pajero has.

As an American, it’s so weird to see stuff like this. It’s like a Highlander/4Runner for the non-USA

10k price difference err no, I just priced these 2 drive away and these is only 1.5k price difference. The Misti has gone up in price considerably. I ended up buying a Fortuner, better engine, better resale and better looking in my opinion.

Keen to see how these cars would compare towing a 3T caravan, 4wd when towing on road is a positive and how the rear coils handle the 10% recommended ball weight would be interesting

Love our pajero sport - definitely miss the volume knob though! 😂.. Such a minor thing but it's really annoying lol. A big reason I went PS was the super select for towing. You can instantly feel an increase in traction, and just feels much safer.

The biggggeeessssttttt and only question,, How is drive comfort wise? Is it between Fortuner and Prado or equal to Prado?

Ok answered @ 16:40. The suspension is same as Fortuner but better than Fortuner but Prado is more comfortable.

Can you unbolt the Toyota seats ? I was told that if the seats are bolted in that you may risk licence - insurance compliance if you remove them "Dependability of a Toyota" ... Toyotas done a great job of PR with that line 😚. I've personally had Toyota , Nissan, Mitsubishi and Isuzu Utes never had a major problem with any of them (knock wood)

Mitsubishi should start selling the Pajero Sport over here in India. It will be a tough competition for Toyota Fortuner as I can see in this video that Pajero is far more better then Fortuner.

Thanks for this comparison. This is currently my dilemma. Also that a bullbar isn't made for the new pajero sport exceed at the moment. It would be a lease car. I'm not fussed on waiting but hubby seems to think it needs to be done yesterday. I love the feeling and drive of the PS. I will need to drive the fortuner again. Resale is also of concern. Obviously toyotas hold their value alot better then most cars. It's a hard decision to make. And it's not a cheap decision either.
