As a previous owner of the Mitsubishi ute I traded that in for a 2019 5 seat Pajero Sport. I have had a lot of vehicles in my life, but the sport is one a few of the cars that I really enjoy driving each day. It is relatively light on fuel, around 8-8.5l/100, tows well and has a great gearbox. I would not mind having 8" though, size does matter. ( I am referring to the infotainment center)

We bought a MY19 Pajero Sport Black Edition earlier this year. After investigating the competition, it was an easy choice. Everest. It's a Ford, and I would not feel confident with its long term reliability. Too many gearbox failures reported for my liking (are the gearboxes made of plastic???). Fortuner. Overpriced, ugly interior, 3rd row seats that when folded up, look like they were an after-thought. DPF class action still ongoing. No thanks.... Trailblazer. Holden is going down the tube, so long term support for any holden vehicle is questionable. The Isuzu MU-X is the only other car we went and looked at. Very solid and reliable by all reports. However after sitting in the interior of one for 30 seconds.... 🤢🤮 Hopefully this will be sorted with the DMax and MU-X model update that is on its way. No rear diff lock, on any model in the Isuzu range either, not even as an option. Bought the Pajero Sport and we are extremely happy with it. As mentioned in your review, being able to use 4H on the bitumen or on hard packed gravel is brilliant. Longer warranty than the rest of the competition for peace of mind too, at 7 years. Super comfortable, feature packed and good on fuel. Averaging just under 9L per 100km. It's a lot of car for the money 👍

4000km down the track and some additional comments. @100 on the clock (95 in reality) we got 7.2lt per 100km on a trip from Melbourne to Adelaide, and that included city driving at either end. At 105kmh (100 in reality) that dropped to 7.8lt per 100km for the same trip which is still very good for a car of this size and weight, and should improve further as the engine frees up. Other things I like - the electric rear hatch door, the intelligent cruise control which I use a lot of the time, the huge space for carrying stuff and the comfortable if a little soft suspension. So far no gripes at all. One of the nifty things that I have not seen mentioned in the reviews is the way the rear wiper activates if it is raining and you need to reverse, and the fact that you can activate the rear hatch door by swinging your foot under the rear bumper.

Great reviews Paul, you are the Matt Watson of Oz. Love your detailed and no non-sense reviews. If you can add couple of things, that will be great. In any 7 seater, can you please get a person around 165- 175 cm height to talk about the third row space (you are too tall to be packed into third row 😆😆). With any SUV with all wheel drive, can you also include gravel road and fire trail driving, so we can also see how they fare off the beaten track with some inclines and moguls. Also keep a medium or small sized suitcase to demonstrate the boot space behind the third row. Pajero Sport- Only thing i don't like about pajero sport is that all the top tethers are in the roof, which is not a problem in a 5 seater, but in 7 seater it makes very hard to get in or out as well as to use the third row. Not a neat packaging. And if this SUV was a few cms wider, that will make it perfect to sit 3 in the middle row. Other than that, this is a great SUV with a perfect AWD system.

The Pajero Sport has better drivability than the Triton double cab, mostly due to the 8 speed auto box, but the car could do with more power and its lagging behind the competition. The suspension is also to soft and the off road system could do with an upgrade where the traction control stays on for the front wheels when the diff lock is engaged. The position of the electric window buttons is also hampered by the door handel. Ground clearance is also lagging behind the competition at only 218mm. The sidesteps hampers its off road ability and it makes marks on your pants when you get out of the vehicle. The 10 000km service intervals are also lagging behind the 15 000 km intervals of the competition If they can fix these things, the Pajero Sport would have a much bigger market share

i'm going to have to say, the pajero isn't based on a ute/ pick up, the ute/pick up they produce is made from the pajero, the pajero was in production long before they went into producing what those aussies call a ute/ pick up, in other places the pajero is also known as the shogun, its a 4x4 designed to compete with the likes of range rovers and land rovers. the pajero does not use the pick up chassis, the pick they make uses the pajero chassis.

I think you may be confused. The Pajero Sport (Montero) shares a platform with the Triton dual-cab utility, it has no relation to the Pajero. The Pajero sits on a monocoque chassis, whereas the Pajero Sport and Triton share a ladder frame chassis.

I'm choosing between Fortuner and Pajero Sport, but getting more confused after reading the comments. I know both off-road is good, but what about the ride quality and interior built quality? It was smaller than what we thought it would be coming from a commodore wagon but definitely livable and the utility of the vehicle is hard to beat. I generally love the styling of it but yes I agree with you those rear tail lights...what drugs were the Mitsubishi stylist on that day? If they cut the big tail down of the rear lights out completely it would be a really nice looking SUV.
@melihaksoy74302 жыл бұрын
Tail lights look like as it is designed by an amateur designer. It is unnecessarily too big, function should define the form. It does not contribute to the overall design concept, it reduces the quality of the design. The front of the car is too complicated. So many bits & pieces without any function are added. If I buy that car, I would cover lower front of the car with a bull bar to cover all that ugliness. Compared with the original Pajero, Mitsubishi lowered the quality of the design.

Putting extra load on an engine will always increase wear. But ultimately, you're buying a vehicle capable of towing up to 3100kg with a braked trailer, so I wouldn't stress about it if you're driving it correctly and have it all balanced properly.

Great review as always, we are looking at one of these either in GLS plus Deluxe pack or just jump to the Exceed [as you suggest]. One thing i may suggest for reviews is a quick 30 secs more on a deeper dive into safety specs. Some of these ute bases 4wds are light on safety vs "SUVs' ie full length curtain bags missing to cover 3rd row etc - important if your thinking kids in that row, and/or as we discovered better safety tech only on the top spec model in Pajero Sport. In our test drive we found the steering less direct, engine not overly peppy of the mark, requiring 2nd thoughts before leaping onto a roundabout, and yes a bit noisy out of the front end when you step on it. Shame the Rexton is troubled with Ssangyong ownership in doubt as the Ultimate spec interior and 20/21 upgrade seem excellent, but who's going to support the 7 yr warranty etc [in AU] if the parent company doesn't find a suitable partner, well priced too. We'll probably get "Sport" instead, hard to go wrong with 5 + 5 yr warranty. Appreciate the review, thanks again.

Great review. I always said it is better than the Fortuner to live with every day. Agree with the rear suspension setup, not resolved. Driven both on and off-road. Still, the Pajero is a better bet, it's cheaper and more economical

I reckon the back looks much better! Pajero Sport or Prado?
@CarExpertAus4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, at the moment I'd say Pajero Sport - but that may change once the Prado gets the upgraded HiLux diesel engine in September!

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say..

Agree with the comments about the exceed, well worth the price difference and also comes with digital dash which comes into its own on long trips in terms of data layouts for fuel, distance and navigation. I personally think it has a better road presence then the others as well in terms of asthetics. Would love it if they came out with a more powerful engine down the track

Would you be able to review the Pajero Exceed? Car Advice did one last year and it was really average, would love to hear your opinion and review on it. Cheers.

Hmm, let me see if we can track one down. I think they're not far off being axed in Australia.

Excellent review Paul! In a few years we are looking at becoming grey nomads, towing the 20' van and seeing this great country of Australia at a slower pace. I've watched many reviews of this vehicle and yours has concluded to me that this is the best value for money. Especially given I have previously purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee as then later a Mercedes GL at $145k. Neither had the outstanding warranty on offer, although I still miss the GL for comfort, ride and security

I think it's a beautiful SUV. Its headlights reminds me of my Ecosport's. Its back lights look like the Prado's when you look quickly. I wish the Everest had similar headlights and better looking back lights. The Land Cruiser is my absolute favourite though.

I picked up a Pajero Sport GLX a month ago. Loving it so far, my only real complaint at the moment is the lack of a rear diff lock, so I would be interested in seeing how far you can go without using the rear diff lock when/if you get around to doing the off-road review. Cheers!

Hey dude, I’ve got an exceed Pajero sport and honestly so far with the light off roading that’s been done, I’ve found the rear diff switch really helpful and really functional in such settings.

Mitsubishi Pajero really good car but they are not good in marketing n after sale in India. It’s really sad here in India we still pay huge some of money to old fortuner top spec fortuner cost more then 4m ₹ which is Aus$ 77k.

I can't imagine the persom at middle second row seat nightmare for fixing the seats belts. What about the rear seat folding set up, MuX and Everest are better way in folding seats and interior space. And for a long drive I reckoned your left knee will be anoyed at the center console. Aside from that quick observation, this SuV is good enough for a Family.. Nice Video Paul..
