Nice Video on the V-Tails. Here is a slight variation on your method that may work a little better. Do the left & right sides at the same time, before cutting the carbon joiners into 4 pieces. No measuring, and I think this would ensure that each side was square to the other in all directions. Just, carefully, tack them down near the center of each of the 4 tubes.
