Be careful when you are moving around that heavy metal! i built a car hauler back in 2013 and didn't have any help with the plating for the bed ended up messing up my back moving it myself and haven't been the same since. Love the show, cant wait to see this thing haulin custom rods.

Once we screw up our backs, we're never the same. Trust me I know. 2 rods thru my thorax and another 2 in the lumbar. My was due to lifting heavy artillery shells for 20 years and thinking my body was still only 20 yrs old. Stay strong and use an inversion table if you can hang upside down. Rember to mount your TV upside down, messes with your brain. Those table are a God send, we'll worth $250.

You know someone is a good man when he takes time out from his work to be kind to an old dog. I was also taught to always level, plumb and square your workpiece no matter what that workpiece may be. Humans have an intrinsic sense of plumb and level and when you start square odds are you'll stay square.

Looking good mate, coming along nicely. You may want to consider putting in some cross or vee bracing from the chassis to the centre of where your tow hitch will be. To eliminate any sideway forces and assist with straight tow, especially if you end up towing a tandem trailer with heavy loads. Cheers Karl, keep ‘em coming.

Carl, are you planning on a winching mount at the front that incorporates a crash bar for the cab occupants? That tilting COE design has to be lightweight and probably wouldn't backstop you and yours in the unfortunate event of a crash. Even a low-speed frontal crash with a 2000 lb coupe on nylon straps is a scary prospect without a crash bar
@MakeItKustom9 ай бұрын
That’s a really good point I hadn’t thought of actually
@ivaneberle39729 ай бұрын
I've occasionally had second thoughts on posting my Safety Salamander reactions but here's one time I'm glad I piped up. Too, since you may be hauling new-to-you parts cars without a lot of structural integrity, or irresistible semi-reassembled abandoned projects you pick up, consider a woven wire mesh cage for the backlight (cab rear window, that is). I've seen how tough & thorough inspection is in AB before plates are issued--true for BC, too? Are there additional regs in the commercial vehicle code for inspecting car carriers?

My goodness she’s a big girl. I can actually see what the finished project is going to look like now. What is the color scheme going to be? All black frame and maybe a color matched deck and cab? Cannot wait to see it completed.

I would have got some tapered C section in say 10mm / 3/8th thick pressed up for the chassis extension, would have been a more elegant and professional look to it plus put the strength where it was needed and saved a bit of weight at the rearmost end. But that's just my thoughts on it, I have done a few chassis extensions and low loaders in the past.

Just in case you have to remove the ramp a few years down the road, I recommend shortening up those bolts... Btw this is my second favorite series, behind the mini buick. Looking forward to completion!

Looking great! when you finish you will have to make 2 more ramp trucks, The Kei truck to carry the baby Buick, and another one like your GMC van cut down to carry the Kei truck that can then go on the big ramp truck. Just kidding, just put the baby Buick on the back !
@InverJaze8 ай бұрын
I'm looking forward to seeing how this project comes together. Though, I was thinking that the deck would have hydraulics to drop the deck to the ground. So that the truck could lift a vehicle onto the back of the truck, like most recovery vehicles do. Ah! imagination.

Truck is looking great. For some reason I thought you were going to slide the tail extension into the rear of the frame and bolt them in. I am not sure why I thought that but the way you mounted the tail section looks strong and ready for the deck and any load you put on it.
