As someone who does mutual aid work with homeless folks and also works with them as research participants, "Why?" hit harder for me than anything else on this album. It captured the prevailing emotion of pretty much all of us doing this work so well. It's hard for me to work with people every day without just being overwhelmed with anger. I stopped being sad a long time ago.

@W.J.M Yes, there may be root causes to homelessness. However in this case if those root causes were brought up it would undermine the song’s message. Homelessness is a problem that can be solved regardless of the cause. So often the humanity is forgotten when talking about root causes and such conversations often stigmatize and alienate those who are suffering. We have the resources, we have the means.

Turnout is never great in The Rock. I saw Shabbaz Palaces and Beach House there a while back with maybe 70 people at one show and a few hundred at the other. I didn't immediately like Pamela but honestly it's now my favorite track. Sure, it's not nearly as aggressive as most of the other tracks, but my god, it's utterly menacing and sinister, it gets deep under my skin. I feel like not a moment is wasted on this record, the performances on all fronts are amazing and the stuff being talked about on this record is unfortunately very pertinent and probably will be for a long time. Even tracks I initially didn’t care for as much as others (mainly Anywhere) have become favorites of mine with repeat listens. I’ve got nothing but love for this band and I’m really looking forward to Cool World.
