Homelessness is a *huge* issue in OKC. “Why” makes me proud to be from the same city as these guys. I’m glad local artists are not only speaking out, but getting some love for it. Thanks Fantano.

As someone who does mutual aid work with homeless folks and also works with them as research participants, "Why?" hit harder for me than anything else on this album. It captured the prevailing emotion of pretty much all of us doing this work so well. It's hard for me to work with people every day without just being overwhelmed with anger. I stopped being sad a long time ago.

they didn't do a verse dealing with addiction as a root cause, or anything to address any root causes, really. great band tho.
@ghillies3796
@ghillies3796 Ай бұрын
@W.J.M Yes, there may be root causes to homelessness. However in this case if those root causes were brought up it would undermine the song’s message. Homelessness is a problem that can be solved regardless of the cause. So often the humanity is forgotten when talking about root causes and such conversations often stigmatize and alienate those who are suffering. We have the resources, we have the means.

I discovered these guys in 2019 and I felt like I was resurrecting my love for such visceral, dark rumbling music. I guess my tastes started to shift when I was in a relationship with someone who hated everything I listened to, so I finally return to form!

Chat Pile has a really weird vibe where the lyrics are almost like the vocalist is so furious and desperate that random thoughts just spring into mind. 'Unhinged' is a good description.

Heard about this band from Fantano when he did a review of their Remove Your Skin Please EP and I've been in in awe of their music ever since. Some severely soul-crushing yet beautiful music. This may be my album of the year.

Haha. Me: waiting for the B review but see the yellow and decide to listen to Chat Pile instead of Church Girl for the fifth time today. Proceed to enjoy it, thinking to myself “it’s cute and fits my mood in a soothing way.” Come back to this review for harrowing warnings of depravity. I guess I’m a little depressed?? Cheers everyone.

I’m happy you talked a bit more of the closer. It was a hard listen for me as well, it was very triggering. But i feel like emotions of dread self destruction must be adressed and be lived and explored so we don’t actually turn on ourselves, know what i mean?

After sitting with this album for nearly two years now this is easily a 10/10 for me. I feel like not a moment is wasted on this record, the performances on all fronts are amazing and the stuff being talked about on this record is unfortunately very pertinent and probably will be for a long time. Even tracks I initially didn’t care for as much as others (mainly Anywhere) have become favorites of mine with repeat listens. I’ve got nothing but love for this band and I’m really looking forward to Cool World.
