Thomas has been demo-ing the master ensuite while I've been in Seattle and he found a strange building technique. Now to decide what to do next with the help of some plans from my dad (the architect).

Abby: Blow through the far wall in the master bath INTO the bath behind it; you'll have a huge bath with room for a tub under a window!

True that, though right now it still is needed as a bathroom for some of the other bedrooms.

Yes!! I came here to say that as well! She could add storage shelves or cabinets/ or a walk through closet, to her en-suite in the corner with the window! Put the tub in for sure!!

Love your channel! My daughter became a wife and a widow in less than 6mos. Actually today 12/19/22 would of been their 1st Wedding Anniversary! It's been the most difficult time in our lives specially when you know your daughter is hurting and you can't help take the pain away! A trip to your place would be something I would love to do with her some day! I admire all the work you're doing, many Blessings to you & Merry Christmas!

@@chateauchronicles That sounds quite exciting. I’m literally in awe because of how you and your mom have put all your heart into this stunning home. Your attention to interior styling is in such good taste. I have watched a lot of videos with period homes. They appear true to the original form. Yet the interiors lose me with the modern design they implement. Nothing is preserved. Your work is like watching a painting being created. Fascinating. I can only imagine your dad falling in love with the family’s chateau.

@@chateauchronicles Hello Abby! I’m new to your channel as of 2/2/23. Yesterday I binged on all of your videos…this being my last one to view. I’m one month behind regarding commenting. 🫢 I just heard you say your late husbands birthday was December 22nd. That’s my birthday as well. Because of several similarities I felt prompted to comment. Also it is a hard time of the year to fit a birthday into all the busyness of the season, let alone experiencing the personal sadness during that time. I’m so sorry for you and your children’s great loss. Not that you intended to be, but you are all a shining example of overcoming a tragedy and an inspiration to many. As others have mentioned, I too hope to someday visit your beautiful chateau and retreat. As a sm content creator/writer myself, I have also Vlogged my journey through my YT channel for going on 10 yrs. I also have a faith based women’s FB support group. So in addition to writing, in a sense I’m also a “voice-writer.” I think what was also pleasantly surprising is that you live in Seattle, my birthplace. I grew up in Issaquah but now live in North Tacoma near Annie Wright. It’s fun to find out that of anywhere in the entire world people could be living to learn that someone shares the same PNW state makes a huge world seem much smaller. My youngest daughter and grand-baby live in SEA on Queen Ann. Sorry this comment has become my tell all moment…🤭 Besides your charming and genuinely sweet videos, I was drawn to your channel because I was intrigued by the fact that as a single woman/mom that you courageously took the steps you did to create an amazing adventure that so many find exciting yet due to circumstances might have to live vicariously through others…no pressure lol. Also I had a business for 12 years of custom home interior finish products i.e. carpet, countertops, window coverings etc. The “French Connection” came about because I wanted more exposure to antique furniture and European design so I was hired by Valley Furniture & Interiors, out of Redmond WA as their showroom display manager and custom floral designer. The Bergevins were a married design couple from Mercer Island who owned this amazing store and design firm. They had the largest showroom of antique armoires. French buyers would shop the flea markets and estate sales buying exquisite French and Austrian antiques and accessories. It’s fun seeing you shopping these markets as well! As soon as they filled a shipping container with furniture and accessories it would then set sail for Seattle. I remember when these containers would be dropped off at the store it was always so exciting to see the pieces hand picked by the buyers and owners. At times they would create beautiful custom designs from many pieces. Of course in most of my arrangements French roses were used. They also imported beautiful antique brass and copper kitchen scales on which I would create floral arrangements of roses, artichokes, blackberries and pomegranates. Of course now they’d be more beautiful as is. But that was back in the early 90’s when we designed the interior of the homes for The Street of Dreams. The Bergevins are no longer in business as the owners have since retired but it was the place to shop for quality French antiques. So I hope you will forgive me for reminiscing those exciting and creative times. I say all of this to let you know how special it is what you are doing. It’s a “calling” and I think that’s what you are feeling when you are away from where you feel you should be. It will happen. Anyways…It’s been fun to revisit some of these wonderful memories, thanks to you, Abby! I look forward to more of your videos to come! Blessings from Tacoma/WA State! Cynthia 🕊

I saw a couple of other chateau owners who have put claw foot baths in their bedrooms and the shower, wash basin and toilet are in the bathroom ensuite. It can styled in but then if you do the corner suite you can claim this for your own. A lot of main room ensuites only have showers. I agree with wanting a lovely window view for a soaking tub.

I just found your channel and OMG! you brave fem. 👏. I want to suggest that your kitchen could go in that main floor that you are using as main entrance. The one w the big fireplace. The ugly kitchen can be a mud room. Where you guest can change shoes, place bags etc. Or you will have sweter, jackets disturbing your place. A full bathroom on the main flor is practical, in case you should need a room on the main. You may need a handicap room. Or what about a good sice closet on that secondary kitchen. Where you guess can keep lougage, your Christmas tree, vacum, supplies etc.

Thank you for a video that is a much better length to hold everyone's attention. Many of yours needed to be broken up into more than one video. It's a lesson that was sometimes difficult for my students to grasp. Research shows that audience attention begins to flag at around 20 minutes. Once past 25 minutes, viewers begin to drop out. I salute your bravery in taking on this project. When I had a chance to teach in France, I passed up the opportunity. That was almost 50 years ago, and I've regretted that decision ever since.

I'm looking at the floor plans you're proposing, and have an idea to share... the ensuite bathroom for the master could be "2x" the size, so you would have the window as part of the master bathroom, giving you the option for a soaking tub! I love the idea of moving the "hall wall" by the staircase, to create a second ensuite (across from the master bath) which would give a second large bedroom with ensuite... for your daughter's side of the chateau, I think giving her the bathroom that would use 1.5 of the proposed side by side bathrooms, would be a good idea, also giving her the window for her bathroom, rather than the interior bathroom. You both would enjoy having natural light for your bathrooms, I'm sure. Then for the left over 1/2 of space from the entry landing of your daughter's room where the proposed second half of the bathroom is planned, create a builtin linen closet to house all the upstairs cleaning supplies, extra towels, linens, bathroom supplies etc. Finally for the bedroom across from your daughter's room, utilizing that bathroom spot that would be above the staircase, would fit perfectly! Then the corner room and the room between the master and your daughter's room (grandma's room" could use the hall bathroom with ease.

He had fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Patton's Third Army. He sent me a silk handkerchief from Nancy. While I did get to visit France in 1996, I missed going to Nancy. I would leave the area off the stairs for a sitting/tea/reading area or even a workspace? I say combine the two bathrooms that are back to back (master and one that butts up to it) into one and build in a dressing area with closet space in it as well? So much potential but I wouldn't blow out too walls because of structural concerns. Instead I would add doors/doorways between areas where possible. You also may encounter odd structural stuff behind walls that could raise costs or cause headaches as well. Also consider looking for things like flooring that has been taken up elsewhere that can be reused or even look into overstock to try and get better prices!

As far as I know, recording on zoom or streamyard is the best way to share your screen. You're doing great learning youtube and filming btw. Hi from Dallas Tx, love your chateau!

Haha! Thank you. There seem to be people who do vlogs sharing their screen all the time and there are whole special apps for doing so. I just didn’t want to buy another app. 😜

Thomas is a treasure. It's no small job putting in new bathrooms in to an old house. It's quite common practice to raise the floor to put in pipes. Your ceiling heights can handle this. Try looking at UK tile and bathroom sites for reproduction or imitation items. With the current exchange rate there may still be a bargain despite import fees.

Keep the harlequin floors, you can use slate cut diamond shape it may be more affordable 😉

WooHoo was waiting for another update. It’s all so exciting. If it were me because I’ve been through immigration in the past with my American husband I would just push through the paperwork especially when you’re not sure about dates. You never know how long it takes them. Just my 2 cents. Lol

Just a thought, you could make your current bathroom a walk-through dressing room with a door into the bathroom with the view and have a lovely master suite.

That was fun! I love house plans :) Personally, if I were you, while Tomas is already gutting and hacking away at your en suite, I'd have him break out that wall and join your bath with the pretty one that has the window. Then put in a tub (and maybe a shower too), and make it the en suite of your dreams. If you like to soak in a tub and look out the window, go ahead and make it happen while demolition is happening. Is it awful to have a step-down into an ensuite? I'm thinking of your daughter's bathroom. The idea of turning that landing area into a bedroom is brilliant. Having a nice window in each bedroom and as many bathrooms as you can, is very nice. Can't wait to see it develop!

What you call the dead space near the stairs has a lovely window! That would make a great reading nook with a built in daybed. How many bedrooms do you need after all?

That ginkgo tree must be super old, they grow soooo slow! I learnt from a pharmacist that the yellow leaves are actually the ones which improve the blood flow in our brain.

@@chateauchronicles I have a friend who eats 1-2 yellow leaves a day, I tried it but didn't notice more brain power, as she claims (maybe you have to do that for many months) I suppose an alcoholic tincture would be the best way of intake, but I have no experience with that, as I am "only" a clinical aromatherapist. But 20 years ago I planted my own ginkgo, as I am obsessed with those beautiful leaves (but it grows extremely slow)

I think your Dad is on the right direction for the two ensuites side by side. The bathroom that's on a different level if there's enough room you could do a couple of steps down. It's a chateau things are meant to be quirky so this would embrace the different floor levels rather than trying to fight them. Also with your bedroom Id change the the exciting bathroom to a dressing room then use the bathroom behind it as yours. aThis way you'd get a window and it would be more like a suite which is better fitting for the owner. YOu'll still have enough room to create a room and bathroom with all the other bathrooms. Lastly if you can't find evidence that fireplace's were in the rooms it might be nice to add fake ones. Especially if they are antique.

This is blowing me away. The idea that you find a build up to meet the floor. Wow.....I have no words. If I were you! This an rare opportunity to have your bathroom the way you would like. I say go for it girly. Please get a bathroom with a view. Open up this bathroom. Put the tub up on a pedestal in the middle of the room. Or closer to the window with a view. Put in a bigger place to get ready in the morning. More outlets for hair dryer, curling irons, make up etc. Shelves for towels. Or even a towel warmer, heated floors, anti fog mirrors, proper lighting, fan or even bluetooth etc. Bring the master bathroom into this century. Just saying that would make ya like you put your touch on the place. If it was me. I would give your daughter the larger bathroom. The last suggestion of using the other bathroom for the bedroom you considered opening up the wall. To expose the window in that bedroom sounds good. I don't blame you for wanting to stay home for the holidays. But it would be so cool to be in France for Christmas...... or get it so you could have your family in France with you for the New Year.... Merry Christmas to you & may 2023 be filled with blessings....

So great you have Thomas helping while you’re gone. Sounds exciting. Nice to get it done while you’re away too. So are you planning on being there from a business visa? Is that how it works? To be able to move and stay? I’m wondering because my husband and I are retired. Wondering what possibilities we would have? Anyway best of luck with it all.

Yay! I have been wondering when you would post again 😊 I really enjoy your videos! The grounds of your property are beautiful! I can literally feel your excitement to get back through my phone as I watch! I work as a title abstractor & spend all of my time in county probate offices searching real property land records. Do you know where they record these documents in France or if they are available online? You could find out a lot of history of your land by doing a search. Much love & luck ❤

Exciting times ahead! Re bathroom and window/bath dilemma, could u give yourself a huge bathroom ensuite by taking over the one behind then you cld have your bath too? Looking at the plans it looks like there’s a separate toilet and basin or something in between another bathroom. Was a little hard to make out all the deets but maybe a rejig of the entire bathroom arrangements. Re the certificate and interview I’m wondering if yr able to hv the interview in another location closer to yr French home?? Then less hassle than returning back to Seatle?? All the best.

I have no idea how I found your videos, but I'm so glad I did. I loved them all. Please keep doing things the way you are, they have been great. I pray you get back there soon. Am I correct that it is your plan to move there permanently, and then you would sell your home in the states? With this business and Visa situation, is there a chance they won't approve your visa and would that mean you couldn't move there?

Yes, if you expanded your bathroom and took out that wall, you'd have a window and more light. Even if you had to step down into your new bathroom it would still be very cool.
