The garden is beautiful! For the urns you should use the "thriller, filler , spiller" method. The thriller is the center plant that has some height to it. The filler is rounded or mounded plants that go around the thriller. The spillers are trailing plants that hang over the edge of the container. Hope this helps! 🌸

What a lovely tribute to name the garden after your advisor. You made me laugh, Terry. I do wish for your bulbs to be the colour you planned. I made the garden at my new house 9 years ago, Terry, and planted a white scheme. Well, the first crocus were not white but purple, and even the Tulips turned out bright yellow, orange, and some weird pink ruffle Tulip. I now think it hilarious that my spring garden turned colourful but the first year was certainly a surprise. And all bought from a known bulb shop.

I can't wait to see the garden once it's all planted. It looks great now, it'll look magical when in bloom. I have a suggestion for the bulbs. Since I'm sure you already have the color scheme mapped out for the garden and I got the impression you weren't sure where to put them, I suggest you put them at the front entrance. Seeing the first signs of spring driving past the chateau would be so uplifting after a long winter season. Everyone can enjoy them not just those who actually visit the chateau. You don't have to plant each bulb individually. Dig out the areas you want to plant about 6-8 inches. Arrange the bulbs as you want the just cover them back up. I just got mine this week. I got a little over a hundred to put in my front flower bed and I can assure you I'm not digging 100 individual holes 🙂 I plan to plant some yellow and blue pansies on top to five some color throughout the winter before the bulbs come up. Just pay attention to the height of each flower. Crocus's are the shortest and are usually planted in the front. They are usually the first thing to bloom follow by the daffodils then tulips. I usually don't plant crocus because they are so short and not particularly visible from a distance. This is just a suggestion. I'm sooooo jealous of the fertile soil you have. I live in the southeast US (Georgia) and have nothing but red clay. Very hard to dig and takes lots of soil conditioning. One final tip. Slugs hate salt.

Shane's garden plan is absolutely stunning. The name of the garden reflecting Karen Brindley and her son's help is so fitting! The design is formal, yet fresh. The rhythm of the design is delightful. When I think of how much work and love you're poured into your estate, I can only imagine the former owners and staff looking down and sighing a sigh of relief. It really couldn't be more beautiful. The music you've chosen is a perfect representation of the beauty of the garden. Terry and Ash, your excitement is palpable. Tracey, the hard work you do shows your appreciation for what you have. The gift of the bulbs is such a kind and beautiful thank you. I really appreciate being able to see the development of the chateau. It's like opening a gift each time I watch your posts. 💗💗💗

Love the design of the garden, tend to the choice of Ilex, I planted English Box as a small hedge about 6 metres and it took 15 years to grow. Another thing I would be a bit wary about the Agapanthus, it grows quickly and will be a good filler for the first 5 years but you may then need to remove it as the roots form a very thick mat which will exclude all the other plants. You could then move them along the driveway. All round job well done remembering what the area was like when you arrived.

I made a 2000 m2 garden with an 'acid' section, a large potager and many hedges. I planted 120 trees and 55 roses and many many other plants and it was a true passion. I used to garden by the headlights of our car at night !! It was so rewarding each spring to see how things took off. I no longer have a garden, just a small courtyard but I no longer have the force and energy to do what I used to do and now someone else is profiting from that garden. I think that planting a tree under which others down the line will sit is one of the most unselfish things to do. Great job, looking forward to seeing it through the years. XO
